Earney Yendrey

Earney S. Yendrey, 70, formerly of Edna, passed away Sunday April 10, 2016. Born March 24, 1946 in Edna, to the late Noyeal and Edna Kulow Yendrey.
Earney is survived by his sisters, Shirley New and husband Ernest, Deborah Drought and husband Brett, and Eunice Reeder; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Earney is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Noyeal "Tommy" Yendrey.
Visitation will be Tuesday April 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Slavik~Edna Funeral Home, 209 N. Allen St. The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 13, at St. Agnes Catholic Church with a rosary recited at 10 a.m. and services to follow at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Michael Petering officiating. Interment will follow in the Memory Gardens Edna Cemetery.
Earney's pallbearers will his nieces and nephews.
Services are entrusted to Slavik~Edna Funeral Home, 209 N. Allen St. Edna, 361-782-2152.

W.H. Bishop Jr.

William Henry “W.H.” Bishop Jr., 78, died March 31, 2016 in Lafayette, La. He was born Sept. 10, 1937 to William and Cliffie Bishop.
Mr. Bishop was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ganado where he and his late wife, Babs, shared a passion for the preservation of the church and working with the youth. He was actively involved in the community. Although not born in Texas, he truly loved Texas and considered himself a true Texan. He was the founding father of the Jackson County 100 Club as a result of his tremendous respect for the law enforcement community.

Doris DeBruhl

Doris Jean Fitch DeBruhl, 77, passed away Friday, April 1, 2016. She was born April 10, 1938 to Theo and Nettie Fitch.
She is survived by sons, Walter G. Evans III of Edna and Joseph T. DeBruhl of Houston; sisters Velma Moseley of Robstown, Mildred Dolezal and Sybil Srp of Hallettsville, Tricia (Jimmy) Koop, Sandra (Gene) Adamek and Becky (Don) Gillespie of Edna.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ruth Fehr.
Special thanks to Sharon Mathews and Keridon of Houston for being like a daughter and granddaughter to her. She loved you like her own.
Also, our gratitude to all the employees and families of Southbrooke of Edna. We could not have done without you during this last month.
As per her wishes she was cremated and no services will be held.

Minnie Hines

Minnie Robinson Hines, 98, of Edna passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2016. She was born Dec. 29, 1917 in Morales, to Willie and Stella Robinson. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Hines, daughter, Fauceletti Hines Ramey, and grandson Sedrick Darrell Callis. 
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Estella Eid and Elaine Callis, four sons, Eldridge Hines, Leonard Hines, Micheal Hines, and Curtis Hines, 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 2, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Edna with burial at Hines Cemetery. Final arrangements entrusted to Cook-Butler Funeral Home & Chapel, Edna, 361-782-3821.

Eva Castro Pena

Eva Castro Pena, 85, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2016. She was born on May 14, 1930 in Goliad to Encarnacion and Anastasia Castro. Eva was a long time member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Edna and a member of the Catholic Daughters of St. Agnes Catholic Church. She worked as a life-long seamstress. Eva was a lovely lady with a beautiful soul.   Eva is survived by daughters Estella Castillo and husband Marcelino of Houston, Esther Smithwick and husband Jessie of Edna; son Miguel (Mike) Pena and wife Cynthia of Goliad; nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; brothers Encarnacion "Chon" Castro, and Guadalupe Castro; a nephew she helped raise Adrian Castro and wife Trish of Victoria; many nieces, nephews, other family members and good friends.

James "Dale" Crawford

James “Dale” Crawford, age 85, a resident of Kingsland, died Thursday, March 31, 2016, in the Heart Hospital of Austin. Dale was born in East Point, La. 
He had a long and successful career with Mobil Exploration & Producing, starting at the age of 18. He loved the company and the many friends he made along the way. He retired in 1992 and was very proud when Mobil Oil honored him and his family for 145 years of service beginning with his stepfather Albert Golson and his two sons Roger and Donald Crawford. Donald continued another 24 years, retiring in 2015.

Otto "Sonny" Matus

Otto F. "Sonny" Matus, 75, passed away on Wednesday, March 30 2016. He was born on Feb. 18, 1941 in Ganado to Otto O. and Sophie Sablatura Matus.  
Otto worked for and retired from Alcoa after 30 years of service. He loved to hunt and to fish with his grandchildren. Otto will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Otto is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Lue Kubecka Matus; and their four sons, Harvey, Scott, Kenneth and his wife Debbie, Randy and his wife Lori; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; two sisters, and one brother, Josephine Janak and Genevieve Buenger, and Johnny Matus and his wife Betty.
Otto is preceded in death by his parents, also his brother Eugene.
Visitation will be Friday, April 1, 2016 at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel from 5:pm to 7:pm, with Rosary being recited at 7:pm

Jane Hammack Browning

Jane Hammack Browning, 74, of Edna began her heavenly journey on March 26, 2016. 
Jane’s great loves were her family, church and dear friends. Her family fondly remembers her love of poetry and the family gatherings she hosted. Jane loved playing bridge, attending the UMW circle meetings and the Wine and Read gatherings with her friends. Jane taught elementary school for 41 years and often shared one of her favorite quotes by Edwin Markham with her students: “There is a destiny which makes us brothers; none goes his way alone. All that we send into the life of others comes back into our own.”

Roger Lewis "Louie" Christy

Roger Lewis (Louie) Christy, Sr., 51, of Edna, Texas went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 23, 2016. 
Louie was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, crawpaw (grandpa), brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Louie loved all of his family, and especially enjoyed spending time with his wife and grandchildren. Louie loved spending the weekends in San Antonio with his family. Louie enjoyed attending flea markets and living his life to the fullest. One of Louie's favorite things to do was watch KU Jayhawks basketball, especially with his dad.
