Anfernee Santellana

Anfernee Santellana, 21, passed away in San Antonio, on June 15, 2016.     He was born in San Antonio on May 16, 1995 to Henrietta Shanelle Santellana and William “Van” Ramey.     He was Catholic.     He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Henry Brown Jr., great-grandmother Adeline V. Green and an aunt.     He is survived by his parents; step-father Erick Sheppard; siblings, Armani Ramey, Ayanna Ramey, Amya Ramey, and Taylor Watts; special brothers Dennis Johnson, Tyler Santellana, Justin Santellana, and De’Andre Foley; grandmothers Julia Holmes, Brenda Fleming and June White; and a host of other relatives ad friends.     Visitation was on Friday, June 24 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church in Edna.  Funeral services were on Saturday, June 25 at 4 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church. Interment followed at Washington Cemetery in Edna.

Naomi Jackson

Naomi Elizabeth Wiegand Jackson, 86, of Edna, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2016. She was born Aug. 21, 1929 in Edna to the late Theodore " Ted" Weaver and Willie Ann Cleveland Wiegand. She married Stonewall Jackson on July 6, 1947.     She and her late husband were owners of the OK Mattress & Manufacturing Co. in Edna and the Jackson Bee Farm. For many years she sewed handbags and delivered them to customers. She was a member of the Robinson Street church of Christ in Edna.

Minnie Hessong

Minnie Martha Ganske Hessong, 95, of Edna passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016.  Minnie was born on Oct. 27, 1920 in Southland, Texas, Garza County to William D. and Martha Hein Ganske. Minnie was married to Louis Hessong, and was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker to their three daughters.     Minnie is survived by their daughters, Betty (Dennis) Jerkins, Ella Mae Anderson, and Martha (Darrell) Kudelka; also by their six grandchildren; Archey (Tracey) Anderson, Tammy (Jamie) Ricks, Kimberly (Paul) Vasquez, Nicki (Nick) Gregg, Gina (Kurt) Yackel, and Richard (Shannon) Jerkins; 15 great-grandchildren, Cody and Kayla Anderson, Erica Ricks, Megan Vasquez, Evan and Brittany Gregg, Jada Yaws, Liam, Zeke, Zane, Abigail, and Sean Jerkins, Warren, Meachelle and Kyler Yackel; and two great-great-grandchildren, Riley and Lylah Yackel; as well and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

William B. Keith

William B. Keith, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Sunday, May 29, 2016 in his sleep at the age of 86. He was born in Goose Creek, Texas on Sept. 22, 1929, to the late Martin Looper Keith and Annie Elizabeth Key Keith.     William lived his childhood in Edna, where he graduated at the age of 16 from Edna High School.     William is survived by his sons, William Jonathan Keith and Jefferson Randolph Keith; He is also survived by his ex-wife Janice.     Bill Keith served in the Navy from 16, June 1947 to 26, Sept. 1951. After the Navy, he worked for several companies until he started working for the telephone company on Feb. 12, 1953. He retired from the telephone company on Dec. 31, 1986.     He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Josie Mae Keith and Lillian Bass; his brother, John Henry Keith.     Graveside services were held June 1 in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Edna.     Arrangements are under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna. 361-782-2221.

Joyce Howell Hunt

    Joyce L. Hunt, 88, of Pettus, died Tuesday, June 14, 2016.     Mrs. Hunt was born June 15, 1927, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Coleman and Florence Springer. She married George Hunt on Nov. 28, 1974, in Tuleta. She was a member of the Tuleta First Baptist Church.     She was preceded in death by a son, James Bassett; and stepdaughter, Colleen Hunt.     Survivors include her husband, George Hunt of Pettus; sons, Charles Bassett of Plano, Aaron Howell of George West and Robin Howell of San Antonio; stepchildren, Roy Hunt of Tampa, Florida, Jeff Hunt of Louise and Mary Nixon of Karnes City.     Visitation was held June 16 at Eckols Funeral Home Chapel in Kenedy.     The funeral service was June 17 at Eckols Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in the Kenedy Cemetery.     Services were under the direction of Eckols Funeral Home, Kenedy.

Deborah Callis

Deborah Callis, 67, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday, June 3, 2016. Deborah was born in Edna, May 18, 1949, to the late John O. and Porgie Bryant.     She attended both George Washington Carver and Edna High Schools and was a lifelong member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated from Huston-Tillotson College in Austin. She was a retired educator teaching in both Victoria and Edna Independent School Districts where she touched the lives of countless children with her stern but loving teaching style. She had a special place in her heart for all children. She was married to Toney Callis and was the mother of four adult children whom she loved dearly. Deborah loved all of her family members and had a sweet and beautiful disposition and a fighting spirit. She refused to give up in spite of the hardships and setbacks she may have faced. When asked how she was doing she would always respond with, “Oh, I’m perking”. She will be missed.

Frances Stancik

    Frances Helen Klump Stancik journeyed to her heavenly garden on June 1, 2016.  She was born on March 16, 1927 to Herbert G. Klump and Lillie Roski Klump in Shelby, Austin County, Texas. She married Alvin Stancik on March 22, 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church in Warrenton.     Frances was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her family was her pride and joy.  She was an Avon Lady, a store clerk, and in 1975 obtained her insurance license and took over the family insurance agency due to her husband's disability. She was appointed JP Precinct 2 Jackson County by Commissioner's Court to complete her husband's term in 1975, where she served this elected position until her retirement in 1991.     Frances was an excellent seamstress, an avid quilter, and loved gardening. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, WELCA, Deborah Circle of St. James Lutheran Church and a 50+ year member of American Legion Auxilary Unit 346.

Billie Marie Wiggins Clement

A memorial service for Billie Clement will be held on Saturday, June 4 at 10 a.m. at La Ward United Pentecostal Church in La Ward with the Reverends Kendall Graves, Mike Williams and Tim Sanchez officiating.     Billie Marie Wiggins Clement, 88, of La Ward, formerly of Sour Lake, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Port Lavaca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.     Billie was born Dec. 2,1927 to Claude Edward and Addie Mae Kelley in Blox, Texas. She was the leader of her ladies auxilary club at her church.     She was a life long resident of Texas, and was a member of the La Ward United Pentecostal Church.     Billie is preceded in death by her husband, Otis Clement; her parents, Claude Edward and Addie Mae Kelley; brothers, Joe Edward Kelley, Jim Kelley and sister, Pat Pharis.

Lee Daniel Hamons

    Heaven's gates were opened for Lee Daniel Hamons, 92 on Tuesday, May 24, 2016. He was born on Feb. 9, 1924 in Ganado to Daniel and Mary Zetka Hamons of Ganado.     Lee graduated from Ganado High School and was a retired contract gauger. He served his country in WWII as a member of the 8th Air Force. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and time spent with his family. He liked to make people laugh by saying he was "Joe Palooka", a popular cartoon character of the 30's.     Lee took pride in his dedication to various organizations in his community. He served on the Louise School Board for over two decades, was a member of the Louise/Hillje Chamber of Commerce where he received the Citizen of the Year Award in 1969, held offices in Louise Lions Club, was a member of the American Legion for 69 years, VFW, and also a member of St. James Lutheran Church of Ganado.

Charles L. Dodson

    Charles L. Dodson; 75, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016. Charles was born on Jan. 2, 1941 in Houston to Stephen L. and Willie Phelps Dodson.     Charles is survived by his wife of five years Linda M. Wagstaff, his daughter Francis Dodson, his sons Lewis (Virginia) Dodson and Douglas Dodson, also his four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.     He is preceded in death by his parents; and his sister Julieann Dodson.     Visitation will be Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Slavik~Edna Funeral Home Chapel in Edna.     There will be a graveside service at Memory Gardens of Edna at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 26.     Services have been entrusted to Russell Todish of Slavik~Edna Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2152.
