Charles "Pete" Van Jones

Charles “Pete” Van Jones, of Edna, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the age of 76. He was born in Edna on Feb. 16, 1940, to Charles Jones and Lillian Marie Cihal.     Charles was an Infantryman the Texas Army National Guard where he held the position of a Designated Marksman. He worked at the local Post Office and then became employed by Dupont until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman and a collector of any and all things. He enlightened everyone with unforgettable antics and jokes and his joking nature ensured you always left him with a smile. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend who will be missed dearly.     He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Gwen Anderson Jones; children, Charles Van and Roseann Jones, Lee and Barbara Jones, Cecilia and Harry “Bo” Kubeczka, Patricia and Bret Johnson, and Veronica and Jimmy Welvaert; in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. T.K.

Ramona Nava

    Ramona Montez Nava, of Edna passed away Friday, July 15, 2016, at the age of 83. She was born June 22, 1933, in Edna,  to the late Desiderio Montez and Rosa Sanchez Montez.     Ramona was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Sowders Club, The Texana Trail Raiders, Catholic Daughters, and a CCD helper. She also worked at St. Agnes Catholic Church for numerous priests for several decades as a homemaker. She loved dancing and spending time with her family and friends. Ramona was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed dearly.

Ettie Marilla Hodges

Ettie Marilla Hodges, of Edna, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the age of 71. She was born December 20, 1944, in Rusk, Texas, to the late Perry Frances Downs and Lillie Melzoria Collins Downs.

After losing both parents by the age of 3, Ettie became a part of J.N. and Pinky Wade’s family, as was requested by her mother. She was baptized at First Baptist Church, Edna at the age of 8. Ettie attended Edna High School, beauty school, nursing training, and received an associate’s degree from Victoria College.

She is survived by her foster mother, Pinky Wade Milby; loving longtime companion of 16 years, Burton Davis; and numerous family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. A.C. Downs; brothers, Frances Adale Downs and Calvin Ray Downs; foster father, J.N. Wade, Jr.; foster brother, Don Wade.

Zora LaDale Mowles

Zora LaDale Mowles, 41, died July 3, 2016 in Houston. She was born July 6, 1974 in Freeport to Dale Mowles and Myra Vickery.     She was a student and a secretary and a Baptist.     She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Alvin Wesley Vickery and Jo Virginia Marshall and cousin Virginia (Lulu) Ficklen.     She is survived by her parents; sister, Madalyn Mowles, nephew Erik Reynolds, niece Amanda Roberts, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.     A memorial service was held July 7 at the Assembly of God Church in Edna with Rev. David Murff officiating.     The family would like to thank the caregivers at Southbrooke Manor in Edna for their loving care.

Lenor Ann Damons

    Lenor Ann Damons, 75, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2016. Lenor was born in Yuma, Ariz. on Oct. 15, 1940 to the late Roemer Rouse and Elenora Hoegenauer.     Her family moved to the Six Mile area near Port Lavaca, where she attended Calhoun High School. “Sissy” as her friends and family called her, often recounted attention-grabbing stories about life growing up in the then bustling area during the 1950’s.     Lenor is preceded in death by her two loving parents, sister Estherleen Marie Marek, brothers Thomas Eugene Rouse and Douglas Wayne Rouse, and daughter Celeste Elizabeth Smith. She is also preceded by her favorite pet, her bird, Zoro.     Lenor lived in different areas throughout Texas. She settled in Port Lavaca with her five children.

Lorene Roznovsky

    Lorene Sokol Roznovsky, age 69, joined her heavenly family July 1, 2016.     She was born Sept. 14, 1946 in Yoakum to the late Alton and Evelyn Mitchon Sokol.     Lorene graduated from St. Joseph High School and she married the love of her life, Jimmie Roznovsky. Lorene’s wish was to go to Hawaii to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Her dream came true but she became ill and died suddenly on this trip.     She enjoyed watching the children and family participating in sports, doing crafts and making trips to Coushatta. She loved the outdoors, fishing and hunting. She especially loved spending weekends at Ezzell at deer camp and playing dominoes with all the camp family. Lorene was very strong in her Catholic faith which led her to participate in Marriage Encounter, Catholic Daughters, lector at Mass, serving as a part of the ACTS community and helping anyone in need.     Survivors are her husband, Jimmie Roznovsky of Ganado; sons, Michael W.

P K Hadley

    P K Hadley, 72, of Edna, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2016. P K was born in Edna on Aug. 8, 1943 to Hope Hicks Hadley and Mary Jane Schultz Hadley.     P K is survived by his wife Jorene Jerkins Hadley; sons Brian Lee, Carl Monroe and Thomas Ray Hadley; sisters JoLynn Bannert, Minnie Cervenka, and Linda Whitaker; brothers Kenneth, Larry, Sonny, Kelly, Sterling and Tim; as well as eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.     He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Ann Kitchens, his brother Wallace Hadley, nephews Wayne Cervenka, Joseph Ray Hadley, Jason Brod and Danny Kitchens.     A celebration of life visitation will be held at Slavik~Edna Funeral Home on Sunday, July 10, from 5 to 7 p.m.     Services have been entrusted to Russell Todish with Slavik~Edna Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2152.

Margie Williamson

    Margie Lenora Marthiljohni Williamson, 91, passed away on Tuesday, July 5.  She was born in Edna on July 9, 1924 to Nick Joseph Marthiljohni and Lillie Mae Branch Marthiljohni.     Margie was one of 10 children blessed to the family. On Jan. 8, 1950 Margie married W.O.Williamson in Alice and together they raised their seven children in Jackson County. Margie was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and a caring housewife, she will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.     Margie is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Stavinoha, Glenda (Greg) Wesley, Peggy (Travis) Sanders, her sons John Gandy, Willey (Regena) Williamson, David (Deanna) Williamson, and Charles (Shannon) Williamson; her sister Trois Girndt, her brother Wally (Willie) Marthiljohni; as well as 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.     Margie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband W.O.

Catherine Maxwell Crain

    Catherine Lee Maxwell Crain went to be with our Lord and her loved ones on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 in Houston, Texas. She was born Sept. 16, 1941 in Longview, Gregg County, Texas to the late Harry Sanders Maxwell Sr. and Laura Lee Lester Maxwell.     After her graduation from Edna High School and Sam Houston State College, Cathy’s teaching career as a music/choir director and librarian spanned 40-plus years in school districts in Victoria, Houston (Spring Branch) and Pasadena. After her retirement from the education system, Cathy enjoyed photography as well as designing, making and selling her unique handcrafted jewelry.     She was married on Nov. 20, 1976 to John Medley Crain in Houston. They enjoyed 38 wonderful years together before his death on May 15, 2015.     Cathy was also preceded in death by her brother H.S. “Sandy” Maxwell Jr.

John Grady Morton

    John Grady Morton, 34, of Ganado, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 27, 2016.  John was born on May 11, 1982 in Victoria to Mary Kaye Pahmiyer and Carey Morton.       John was one of nine children. He is survived by his grandmother Mary E. Pahmiyer; mother Mary Kaye Pahmiyer; father and stepmom Carey and Ester Morton; aunt and uncle Debbie and Gene Tolilver; brother William "Billy" Strane; sisters Avis M. Morton, Bianca A. Strane, Shellbe Morton, Ashley (Josh) Woodson, Kay Ackley and Nicole (Paul) Garcia; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.     John is preceded in death by his grandfather JB Pahmiyer, grandparents Clarence and Avis Morton; brother Chance Morton;  uncle Ronnie Morton; aunt Glenda Elledge; and great-aunt Jean Pahmiyer.     Visitation will be Wednesday, June 29,  from 5 to 7 p.m. at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be Thursday, June 30, at 10 a.m., also at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel.
