W.H. Bishop Jr.

William Henry “W.H.” Bishop Jr., 78, died March 31, 2016 in Lafayette, La. He was born Sept. 10, 1937 to William and Cliffie Bishop.
Mr. Bishop was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ganado where he and his late wife, Babs, shared a passion for the preservation of the church and working with the youth. He was actively involved in the community. Although not born in Texas, he truly loved Texas and considered himself a true Texan. He was the founding father of the Jackson County 100 Club as a result of his tremendous respect for the law enforcement community.
W.H. was known as Paw Paw to his grandchildren and took pride in taking them to Formosa-Tejano Wetlands located on the farm he so loved and managed, Tejano Farms. He was especially proud of the W. H. Bishop Classroom, a Calhoun County ISD Outdoor Educational Facility named in his honor. Prior to moving to Texas, W.H. worked for Deltic Farm and Timber Company owned by Murphy Oil Corp. where he managed Ashley Plantation East.
He is survived by his stepson, William “Keith” Calvert and wife Monica of Lafayette, La.; daughter, Darla Bishop Jones of Houston; sister, Carlyn Heugatter and husband, Roy; brother, Charles Bishop and wife, Nancy; and grandchildren, Lauren “BJ” Calvert, Danielle “Dani” Calvert, Jeremy Warrington and Kelli Warrington.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara “Babs” P. Bishop, parents, William and Cliffie Bishop; son, William H. “Bill” Bishop III, and brother, Billy Wayne Bishop.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Ganado. Mr. Bishop will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Lafayette, La.
The family would like to extend special thanks the staff and families of Cedar Crest Personal Memory Living Facility in Lafayette, La. for their exceptional compassion and care given to “Bishop” as they so lovingly called him. Also special thanks to his bookkeeper and dear friend, Carmalita Gonzales, Sheriff Andy Louderback, Constable Curt Gabrysch and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
