Wanda Cox

Wanda Ardell Ingold Cox, 87, passed away peacefully on Feb. 12, 2016 surrounded by her family. Wanda was born on Jan. 3, 1929 in Bethalto, Ill. to Albert and Nona Baldwin Ingold.
Wanda was a loving, devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother with a great love for bingo and dominos. She spent the last nine years of her life at Ganado Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she was much loved and cared for. She also held the position of secretary to the Director of Activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband O. Edward Cox, who passed away on Aug. 25, 1983; her brother Robert Ingold, sister Sheila Marie Pena, and her granddaughter Lori Beth Parker.

Marion Vance

Marion Lucille Brieger Vance, 94, died on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016. She was born on Aug. 22, 1921, the only child of Lydia Elizabeth Goetz Brieger and Alfred Charles Brieger of Runge.
Marion graduated from Runge High School and attended Trinity University in San Antonio and Texas State University in San Marcos, graduating with a BA degree in music. She was the choir and band director at Sanderson High School in Sanderson, Texas but was offered a job in Victoria after the war. One afternoon, as the story goes, a girlfriend asked Marion to accompany her on a drive to Edna.

George Henry Born

George Henry Born died on Jan. 21, 2016 at the age of 76 years. He was born in a farm house in Westhoff, Texas on Nov. 10, 1939. His parents were Lydia Olga (Schulle) and Henry Born; he was the eighth of nine children. After age one he was raised on various farms in Jackson County. George graduated as valedictorian of his class from Industrial High School in Vanderbilt in 1957. His freshman year he attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin. He then transferred to the University of Texas, Austin, where he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering in 1962.

Martin "Duke" Salinas

Martin “Duke” Salinas, of Edna, passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at the age of 70. He was born Nov. 12, 1945, in Olivia  to the late Jose and Louisa Martinez Salinas.
Martin was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed dearly.  
He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Robles and Veronica Beltran; sons, Daniel Salinas and his wife Angelica, John Martin Salinas, Joe Patrick Salinas, and David Salinas; sisters, Mickey Hernandez, and Janie Diaz; brother, Tony Salinas; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Martin is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patsy Salinas; brothers, Genaro Salinas, Jerry Salinas, Sandy Salinas, Cruz Salinas, and Steve Salinas.

Lillie Mae Pearce

Lillie Mae Green Pearce, of Rockport, formerly of Deutschburg Community, Jackson County,  passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2016. Lillie was born on Jan. 7, 1924 in Edna, to Eugene George Green and Annie Catherine Terry Green. She graduated from La Ward High School then later married her high school sweetheart and forever love, Frank Dorton Pearce, on Oct. 26, 1942. Lillie was a dedicated Army wife who volunteered and worked while her husband served our country. After the service, they moved back to Jackson County, where she was a housewife and an active in the Deutschburg Community Club and Home Demonstration Club. Lillie Mae was a well-respected, generous, and caring woman who was always willing to help others.

Cristina Robles

    Cristina Castro Robles, of Edna, Texas passed away Thursday, February 4, 2016, at the age of 49. She was born June 25, 1966, in Ganado, Texas, to Encarnacion Castro and the late Consuelo Ramirez Castro.
    Cristina worked as a care giver for many years. She touched the lives of several people and had a trademark smile that would never be forgotten. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. Cristina was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed dearly.  
    She is survived by her husband, Javier Robles; father, Encarnacion Castro; daughter, Crystal Robles; son, Javier Robles, Jr., sisters, Gloria Castro, Monica Guerra, and Martha Castro; brothers, Ray Castro, Gilbert Castro, Martin Castro, Roy Castro and wife Adela, and Adrian Castro and wife Trish; grandchildren, Madyson Tones, Savanah Robles and soon to be grand-daughter, Marleigh Robles, numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Browning Shutt

Mary Lanell “Nonnie” Browning Shutt of Edna, 88, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016. She was born in Jackson County on May 31, 1928 to the late Aurbe Clinton “Bud” Browning and Carrie Maria Whybark Browning.
Mary and Harvey August Shutt were married on January 12, 1945. They were married for 58 years before he passed on Nov. 7, 2003. Mary worked in banking for most of her adult years. She was employed by 1st National Bank and Mid Coast Savings in Edna. She was a charter member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Edna and helped with the construction of the church. She taught Sunday School and helped with Vacation Bible School.
She loved her family and the time she spent with them. Her faith was an inspiration to all.  She was a treasured mom, sister, “Nonnie,” aunt and friend who will be deeply missed.

Peggy Sheppard

Peggy Ann Sheppard, of Edna, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016 at the age of 82. She was born in Birmingham, Ala. on Jan. 22, 1934, to the late Earl Eugene Niles and Bessie Maddox Niles.
She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend who will be truly missed.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Melissa Sheppard; son, James “Jim” Sheppard and wife Edna; sisters, Dottie Ensinger and Earline Etheridge; brother, Hank Niles; grandchildren, Nicolle Castillo and Dustin Sheppard; great-grandchild, Cannon Castillo; and numerous nieces and nephews. 
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Gene Sheppard.

Gerald Bures

Gerald A. (Rabbit) Bures Sr., 86 of Ganado passed away Thursday Jan. 28, 2016. He was born May 10, 1929 in Ganado to the late Emil and Theresa Orkulik Bures. Gerald retired from Alcoa in 1983, after 33 years of service in the Power Dept. He was also a farmer and rancher.  e was a KC member at Assumption Catholic Church.
Gerald served his country during the Korean War in the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife Alice Macha Bures; daughters Sandra (John) Martin of Brownwood, Cathy (Rory)Hafernick of Bay City, Cynthia Bures of Ganado, Mary (Craig) Stavinoha of East Bernard; sons Dennis (Cindy), Steven, and David (Renee) Bures, all of Ganado, and Gerald Bures Jr. (Kelly) of Tennessee. Also surviving is his brother Albert Bures of Cuero; sister Angie Smith of Victoria; 18 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
