Cecil Jones

Cecil Jones, 88, of Center, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at his residence. Jones was born June 16, 1927, in Louise, to Ira W. Jones and Pearl Goode Jones. He was a Church of Christ minister.
He is survived by his son, Larry “Dude” Jones and wife, Susan, of Tenaha; grandchildren, Justin Jones and Bailey Jones, both of Tenaha; aunts Frankie Gerhard, Helen McKey and Mildred Tipton, all of Edna; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jones; parents; brothers Leroy Jones and Raymond Lee Jones.
Pallbearers were Justin Jones, Bailey Jones, Leroy Newman, Otis Pleasant, Allen Pinnick and Donny Fountain.

Garland Johnson

Garland Ray 'Nanny' Johnson, age 82, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016. He was born Feb. 25, 1934 in Lavaca County to the late Harvey Johnson and Blanche Knox Johnson.
He graduated from Yoakum High School and began working for Alcoa for 30+ years until his retirement. After retirement he worked for LNRA. Garland enjoyed growing his garden and crops, raising cattle, hunting, fishing and traveling during his time off.
Survivors are his daughters, Jeanne Hartsfield ( Tim) and Debbie Hajek (Ervin) both of Yoakum; sons, Steve Johnson (Alice) of Ganado, Tim Johnson of Snyder and Patrick Johnson (Bonnie) of LaWard; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; brothers, Harvey Johnson of Yoakum, Ronald Johnson (Claudette) of Yancy.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brothers, Tommy (Pug) Johnson, Walter (Sleepy) Johnson; and sister, Peggy Frazer.

Robert Sheblak

Robert (Bobby) Lee Sheblak, 80, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016. He was born on Dec. 9, 1935 in Edna, to Elmer and Annie Hollas Sheblak. 
Robert is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jennie Sheblak of Edna; sons Edward Sheblak of Johanasberg, South Africa, and his partner Juan, Marcus and his wife Kim Sheblak, of Ganado, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends and family for visitation on Friday, March 18 from 5 to 7 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., at  Slavik-Edna Funeral Home Chapel.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m. at the St. Agnes Catholic Church, Edna, with Rev. Michael Petering officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Military Honors being provided by Ganado American Legion Post #346.
Services have been entrusted to Russell Todish of Slavik-Edna Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2152.

Marian Broyles

Marian Davis Broyles Ford passed away on March 13, 2016, at the age of 95. She was born December 7, 1920 in Maryville, Missouri to George Fred and Esther Hepburn Davis.
She is survived by one son, David; two daughters, Catherine and Juanita; and one grandson, Jeremy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband John Broyles, Jr., her second husband John Ford, her brother Harold, and two sisters, Helen and Marie.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at Slavik Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Adam R. Knapp officiating.
Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen, on Tuesday, March 22 at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be sent to Alzheimer's Association San Antonio & South Texas Chapter 10223 McAllister Freeway Suite 100 San Antonio, TX  78216.

Eunice May Hicks

Eunice Mae McDonald Hicks, of Edna, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the age of 92. She was born in Morales on Jan. 10, 1924, to the late Valso Alexander McDonald and Alice Mae Hokit McDonald.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be truly missed. Eunice was a life-long resident of Jackson County, she was also the Valedictorian of her class in Morales. She loved to cook, garden and read. 
Eunice is survived by her daughters, Jeannie Browning and her husband James, Debbie Carroll and her husband Jim, Billie Rae Hayden and her husband Craig; sons, F.D. “Spud” Ellison and his wife Ginger, Michael G. Hicks and his wife Susie, Jeff Hicks, Clinton Hicks and his wife Leah; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bertie Knoblock

Bertie Nora Simmons Knoblock, 93 of Edna passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016.  Bertie was born on Feb. 2, 1923 to A.C.E. and Hattie Stephens Simmons in Edna. 
Bertie lived and worked in Jackson County most of her life. She graduated from Ganado High School and then went on to attend Durham Business College where she graduated with a degree in business. She was a member of Lolita Ladies VFW, she worked for Alcoa for 5 years, then worked for PCN Railroad as a clerk and then as an agent for 25 years. Bertie married Otis Knoblock, and together they had three children.
Bertie is survived by her daughter, Sandra Childers of Blessing and her son, Otis Ray Knoblock of Bryan, as well as six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bertie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Glen Lester Knoblock, four sisters, and six brothers.

Ella "Pat" Dan Rozner

Ella “Pat” Dean Rozner, of Edna, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 7, 2016 at the age of 81. She was born in Port Arthur on March 30, 1934, to the late Bert Good and Bernadine Johnson Good.
Ella is survived by her daughters, Linda Karl, Shirley Gloor and her husband Wayne, Theresa Marek and her husband Cisco; son, Scott Rozner and his wife Tonia; grandchildren, Hondo and Shelly Marek, Margo Michelle Marek, Keith and Andrea Gloor, Melissa and Brian Huber, Jonathan Gloor, Brandon and Kerry Karl, Kamey and Clint Wilkerson, Michael Biehle, Jeremy Biehle, and Lauren Rozner; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend who will be truly missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved husband, Raymond Anton Rozner; daughter, Carol Rozner Biehle; brother, Rodney McCreary; and son-in-law, John R. Karl.

Troy Lee Idom

Troy Lee Idom, 74, passed away March 7, 2016 in Dallas. He was born Nov. 2, 1941 in Yazoo City, Miss. to Troy Lee Idom and Jessie Faye (Moore) Idom. 
Troy earned the rank of Eagle Scout at age 13 and graduated from Edna High School in 1959 and Texas A&I in 1965 with a degree in petroleum engineering. He married Sandra Gail Hart on Sept. 7, 1962 in Edna. After a short stint with Reed Roller Bit in Houston, he took a job with National Supply in Gainesville where he and Sandra raised their family. 
Troy served his community in various ways by coaching Little League baseball, working with the Boy Scouts, being a member on the boards of the Cooke County United Way, the Texoma Regional Blood Bank, the Texoma Regional Planning Commission, and the Gainesville Boys and Girls Club. He served on the Gainesville City Council from 1983 to 1987 and was a Regent for NCTC from 2001 to 2008.

William "Bill" Hollingsworth

William Campbell “Bill” Hollingsworth, of Edna, age 89 passed away March 2, 2016. He was born Sept. 28, 1926 in Harlingen, Texas to the late Louis Robert and Eleanor Campbell Hollingsworth.
After graduating from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, he served in the United States Navy during WWII. After the war, he continued his education at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he met Sarah Francis Munsell (Hollingsworth) whom he married Oct. 28, 1950.
Bill was an active member of the community. He was president of Jackson County State Bank, Victoria Bank and Trust in Edna, and Lavaca Navidad River Authority. He served on various bank and trust boards, the Edna Independent School District board, and the First United Methodist Church board, of which he was a lifelong member and Sunday School teacher.

John "Paul" Bezoni

John “Paul” Bezoni, of Edna, went to be with the Lord, with his family by his side, on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016 at the age of 84. He was born in Driscoll on Aug. 7, 1931, to the late John Thomas Bezoni and Jessie Elizabeth Martin Bezoni.
Paul served our country in the United States Marine Corps. He also worked for Exxon for 40 plus years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be truly missed. Paul frequently told his wife Peggie, “I am so glad you found me”.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Peggie June Thomasson Bezoni of Edna; daughter, Paula Joyce Matlock and her husband Phillip of Dallas; son, Preston Jay Bezoni of Edna; granddaughter, Claire Matlock of Dallas; numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mayo Bezoni; and sister, Peggy Joyce Buckner.
