Cobras show Odem out

    The Industrial Cobras move on from round 2 Area with a best 2 of 3 win over Odem in two games. The Cobras eliminated Odem May 4 in game two in Seguin 4-2. Odem tied the game 2-all in the sixth before the Cobras put up two runs in the ninth.
    Industrial travels to Beeville to take on Santa Gertrudis Academy May 10-11 starting at 7 p.m. and noon in a best of three series for round 3 in the Regional Quarterfinals.

Rope event debuts at BRC

    The Rope for the Kids rodeo event made its debut in Jackson County April 27. It was the seventh year for the charity team roping event, benefitting Golden Crescent CASA and was in Jackson County at the Brackenridge Recreation Center for the first time through the efforts of a dedicated group, the Jackson County and Calhoun County Rope for the Kids Advisory Board.
    Stephanie Cavazos, LCW, of the advisory board gave a brief explanation of how their group works and how they tie in with CASA.

Snakes stretch Weimar

    To fill time until they make their playoff debut in the second round, the Industrial Cobras took on number 1-ranked 1A Weimar at home April 26.
    The game stretched to 11 innings and three hours from the customary seven innigns before Weimar plated 4 runs to win 4-1.
    “It was a great game and they are a great team,” said Industrial Head Coach Chasity Matula.

Run, jump, throw! Five headed on to State

    Jackson County track was at Judson in San Antonio April 26-27 for the Region IV 1A and 2A track meets. A finish in the top two was a ticket to run at the Texas State Meet May 10-11 at Mike A. Myers Stadium at UT  Austin. Michael Garcia, Clay Vesely and Ashley Bridges all advance to state for Ganado in 1A. Garcia qualified in both shot put and discus. In 2A competition, Madison Kucera and Kaylynn Grudzieski will represent Edna at state. Industrial’s Bryan Landry tied the second place state-qualifying jump in pole vault, but placed fourth. Sparks breaks record at Poth pre-Region meet

    Austin Sparks of Edna set a new school record in the 100 meter dash at the Poth pre-Region track meet on April 20. Times were not available until after the news deadline for this week’s paper. Individual results are as follows:

‘Girls golf finish in fifth

    Edna Golf headed to Quail Creek Country Club in San Marcos April 15-16 for the two-day Region IV golf tournament. The course was a little rough and greens were more sparse then normal from the drought. The Cowboys finished fifth out of 16 teams with a 724 two-day score and the Cowgirls came in eighth of 15 with a 909.
    “I was very proud of our boys golf team,” said Head Coach IC Sklar, Jr. “Things looked good after Monday’s round and the boys knew what they had to do to go to state. We played a better round Tuesday, but fell short. This team will be back next year and will make that goal.”

Tennis finishes at Region

Industrial Cobra and Edna Cowboy tennis were both at the Region IV 2A Tennis Meet April 17-18 in San Marcos.
    In girls singles work, Edna’s Allison Kotlar beat Karnes City 6-2, 6-0, before losing to Lago Vista in the quarterfinals 4-6, 1-6.

Big bat wins ‘Battle’ bash

Edna Little League held a Battle of the Bats hitting contest and fundraiser April 6. Alex Taylor had the furthest league hit with a ball that traveled 278 ft. Alex plays for the Edna Firemen, shown with his coach Jeff Gerdes, on right.

Kotlar headed to Dallas

Allison Kotlar committed to play basketball for the University of Dallas Crusaders April 19. Supporting her to her left were parents Stacey and Larry Kotlar, EHS Head Girls Basketball Coach Brett Nidey, on her right, and grandmother Sue Smith. Dallas plays in the SCAC with Austin College in Sherman and Trinity University in San Antonio.

Cowboys one win away

    The Edna Cowboys are a game away from making the playoffs. Needing to win their final three games to have a chance at the number three seed, the Cowboys defeated Industrial and Goliad this past week, and their matchup with Aransas Pass April 23 will decide if they start their run in the 2A playoff bracket or clean off their cleats for the year.
    At home against Goliad April 19, Edna jumped on a 2-0 lead in the first inning and rode that edge for the 3-1 win, massing eight hits with a single error.
