Ganado Youth Football registration

    Ganado Youth Football registration begins Thursday, May 23 at the Ganado Little League field from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, June 1 from 9 a.m. till noon at the covered pavilion by the little league field. Players must be six years old by Aug. 31. Bring birth certificate and weight.

Industrial girls basketball camp

    The 2013 Industrial Girls Summer Basketball Camp will be held June 10, 11, and 13 at the IHS gym. Registration fee is $30 and is due May 30, open to girls entering grades 4-9 in the fall of 2013.
    Seventh through ninth grade camp will be from 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Fourth through sixth grade camp will be from 10:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
    The camp covers passing, dribbling, shooting, rebounding and other fundamentals and aspects of the game. Camp also will focus on learning half court and full court drills, competitive drills, motion offenses and defensive techniques. The camp is for any girl excited about the game of basketball and wants to improve their playing skills. Participants will be expected to work hard every day and follow all rules.

Cobra Softball wrap-up

    The Industrial Cobras finished their season May 10-11 in Beeville against Santa Gertrudis in the Regional Qualifier round of the the Division 2 State 2A playoffs. The Cobras finish the season 19-14 with a 12-2 record in league play as the District 29-2A Champions.
    The final game of the best-of-three series went into extra innings May 11, ending in the bottom of the 10th, 4-3 Santa Gertrudis.
    Madison Garza went the distance for the Cobras, striking out 10 batters over 9 1/3 innings, walking two.

Sulak is State-bound

Avery Sulak, a sixth grader at Ganado Junior High School, qualified for the Texas Junior High Division State Finals in four events. This is Avery’s first year eligible for the junior high division held in Gonzales May 26-June 1. On her mare, Honey, Avery qualified in poles, goat tying, breakaway roping and ribbon running. She is the daughter of Brian and Shelby Hurt of Ganado.

Marthiljohni makes another run

McKayla Marthiljohni qualified for the third time for the Texas Junior High Division State Finals. As an eighth grader at Edna Junior High School it is her last year in the junior high division; McKayla has qualified all three years in junior high. She is on her 15-year old gelding SixPack, qualifying in barrels, poles, and goat tying. McKayla is the daughter of Jessica and Michael Marthiljohni of Edna.

Sparkman to play ball for Generals

    The Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate League added Ganado High School product pitcher Glenn Sparkman from Wharton County Junior College to play this summer.
    “Toller, Glenn, and Matt are all three very talented pitchers,” stated Blake Koch, the vice president and general manager of the Victoria Generals. “These three guys all have a good chance of playing pro ball in the near future.”
    Glenn Sparkman, a right-hander from Ganado, just completed his redshirt sophomore season at Wharton County Junior College where Generals new head coach, Stephen Flora, is currently the assistant coach for the Pioneers.
