Football camp teaches fundamentals and safety

The Edna ISD Foorball coaching staff will hold a Football Fundamental Camp in Edna at Shelby Park on Wednesday and Thursday, July 24-25.

The camp is open to all students regaredless of ISD affiliation, ages 6-12.

Victoria Venom competes in state tournament

The Victoria Select Baseball Team Venom competed in the state tournament for Nations Baseball June 21-24 in Spring.

The team fell short a few games of making it to the championship.

Calf Rider wins a saddle

Gene Ratliff of LaVernia, formerly of Edna, placed second in the first and second round to win the average in calf rising at the Youth Rodeo Association Finals in Gonzales on June 23. Gene won a saddle for winning the average and third place finish for the year-end buckle. Gene is the son of Budd and Jaime Ratliff and the grandson of Bryan and Becky Miska of Edna

Local sailor contender for Sailor of the Year

Navy counselor First Class (SW) Philip Lopez is one of the top eight sea sailor finalists for the Naval Surface Force Pacific Sailor of the Year.

He was recognized at a banquet in Coronado, California. Lopez is stationed ont he USS Wayne E. Mryer (DDG 108) ship in California and is the son of the late Johnny Lopez and Phala Shanks of Ganado.

'There's an inner light in her eyes when she plays'

Madison Garza of Industrial was names 2013 Victoria Advocate's All-Area Softball Pitcher of the Year, daughter of Neeco and Mike Garza. She's collected 234 strikeouts, three homers, has a .440 batting average and an ERA of 1.17. She's also a District 30 2A champ with a record of 15-9-1. She's a member of the Select team Austin storm, to which she travels to practice twice a week.

Former Cowboy to play for Crusaders

Kody Parker will be playing college football for the University of Mary Hardin Baylor Crusaders this year in Belton.

He is a former resident and student of Edna and just graduated from Sweeney High School. He started playing football in the seventh grade, but has also played baseball, tennis, and ran track and field.

Thunder Rolls the Colt .45s

The Jackson County Thunder rolled again on Father's Day against Flatonia Colt .45's at Shelby Park in Edna. The final score was 13-3. Despite the teams being tied up in the end of the fifth inning, Thunder made an extensive lead by the sixth and concreted it in the seventh by doubling their score.
