Cobras clinch first seed

    The Industrial Cobras wrapped up their regular season with an 8-1 thumping of Tidehaven on the road April 19. The victory came at a cost, losing left fielder Katelynn Bell to a broken collar bone for 6-8 weeks. The win clinches the District 30-2A title and earning two weeks to rest up till May 3-4.
    At home against Edna April 16, the Cobras stretched the lead to 6-0 before the Cowgirls scored in the sixth in Industrial’s 6-2 win.

Tribe thump bugs

    The Ganado Maidens lost to Shiner at home after 9 innings 5-4. Brianna Ledwik went the distance, striking out six over 9 innings.
    Lindsay Kocian went 3 of 5 with a double and Jordan Banda drove in a pair of RBIs on one hit. Bridges connected for two hits and Alyssa Reyes had 2 singles and an RBI.

Maiden golf finishes fourth

    The Ganado Indian and Maiden golf teams were in San Marcos at the Quail Creek Country Club on April 8 for the District 29-1A golf tournament. The Maidens finished fourth as a team and the Indians were 11th.
    “The girls team missed going to Regionals by 16 strokes,” said Head Coach David Grewe.

Cobras tie first

    The Industrial Cobras dealt Refugio their second loss of the season to tie for first place in district, holding the tie-breaker. Industrial went on a 4-0 rally through the seventh and eighth innings with Elizabeth Kolodziejczyk hitting in Madison Garza and Kasi Bethke for the tie in the seventh. Jordin Jones drove in Katelynn Bell for the win.
    Garza doubled her goal for strikeouts, downing 17 batters over 8 innings, walking three in the win.

Cowboys and Indians win district track titles

    The Edna Cowboy and Ganado Indian boys track teams won district championships this past week. Edna’s District 30-2A Championship came in Goliad April 8-10 and Ganado took the District 29-1A gold April 10 in Yorktown. The Edna girls finished second with Industrial’s girl right behind them in third. The Industrial boys came in fifth and Ganado girls team finished eighth.
    The top two places for 2A and top four place for 1A all advance to Regionals at Converse Judson April 26.

Bridges good for two gold

    Ganado track filled their pre-district week with a trip to the coast at Aransas Pass April 4.     The Maidens team finished seventh and the Indians came in fifth. Individual results are in the paper.

As American as barbecue and baseball

Edna Little League will host a barbecue fundraiser Sunday, April 28 from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. at the Sam Houston Cafeteria. Tickets are $8 for a plate of brisket and sausage with potatoes, green beans and trimmings. Tickets may be purchased from any Edna Little League player or by calling 782-8220. Their Tai-Jutsu was righteous

The American Institute of Martial Arts had rank testing recently for Richard Gerjes and Brian Cornejo. They received rank in the art of Tai-Jutsu Ryu karate. Thunder start with slam

The Jackson County Thunder opened the season hot, taking down Fayetteville 8-2 on the road March 6.
    Kade Kucera started for the Thunder, going 6 innings with 10 strikeouts for Ks. Andrew Paul relieved 1 inning, Jon DeLaRosa stepped in for an out and Ross Rakowitz closed out the final 1 2/3 innings.

Cowboys good for two

A pair of Edna Cowboys were named to the 2013 All-District 30-2A teams for their 2012-2013 season. Brandon Nidey, left, was chosen for the Second Team and Austin Sparks was elected to the First Team.
