Rios fifth in state

    The Texas High School Powerlifting Association Boys State Meet was March 23 Abilene with a quartet of Jackson County lifters on hand. Industrial finished 42nd as a team and Edna was 45th.
    Individually, in the 114 lbs. class, Industrial’s Jesus Rios finished fifth in state with a total of 870. Rios squatted 295 lbs., bench pressed a class-high tying 215 lbs. and picked up 360 lbs. in the dead lift.

Cowboys keep it close

    The Cowboys were within a score in both games this past week, falling by one in Goliad March 22, 4-5. Edna is 6-7 overall, 3-3 in district play.
    Guy Dodson started, going two innings, striking out three and walking one. Ross Novian relieved, striking out four and walking four.

Cobras eye third seed

    Industrial pounded Tidehaven March 22 at home with a 12-0 five-inning show. The Cobras are 10-11 overall, 5-2 in district.
    Madison Garza went the distance, striking out seven with no walks and a single hit.

Thompson wins on 35-foot shot put

    Edna packed up the runners and made the trek out to Van Vleck March 21 as the boys and girls team each picked up second place finishes.

Landry vaults 13 feet for first place

    The Industrial Cobra track and field teams made the trip out to the Flatonia Bulldog Relays on March 21. The Cobra girls team came in second with a score of 81 and the Industrial boys team was fourth with a 59.

Tribe plates up 19 runs

    The Maidens did not end their week the way they had hoped as the TGCA seventh and 13th-ranked teams faced off in Shiner March 22 as higher-ranked Ganado fell 4-2. Shiner and Ganado matched efforts at the plate with eight hits each. The Maidens are 9-7 overall, 1-2 in district.
    Brianna Ledwik (4-4) pitched five innings, staring down 24 batters, striking out two and walking one.

Tackle to play for Howard Payne

Edna offensive tackle Brian Bachus signed his letter of intent March 22 to play football at Howard Payne University in Brownwood. Brian is flanked by parents Charla Bachus and Bryan Bachus and in back by Athletic Director Mike Pierce.

John Hughes committed to play football for the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets March 22. The Edna Cowboy wide receiver was joined by mother, Patricia Ochoa and Edna Athletic Director Mike Pierce, in back.

Dog bites, doctor’s orders and still headed to Boston

    Running in the Boston Marathon is a ‘bucket list’ item for many runners. It is one of the biggest races in the world, and simply qualifying is an ordeal. Lindsey Bradford of Edna ran in the Louisiana Marathon Jan. 20, finishing third in her division with a time of 3:39:08, qualifying for Boston. Now, if only it had been that simple. Of course, it was her sister’s idea.
    “Shelley  [Srp] was the one that convinced me to run a marathon,” said Bradford, who works at Bradford Motors in Edna with husband, Jon.

Tribe flat versus Lady Bulldogs

    The Ganado Maidens fell on the road against Flatonia 4-9.
    “We didn’t play our best, but we did some good things,” said Head Coach Malina Andel. “It just didn’t fall our way.”
    Georgi Garza started and took the loss, striking out three batters and walking two in two and a third innings.
