‘Boys wash out the Tide

The Edna Cowboys forced the mercy rule at home against Tidehaven March 15, hammering out a 14-1 win by the fifth inning. Tidehaven finally managed a run in the fifth to prevent a shut-out. Edna improved to 5-6, 2-2 in district play.
    Guy Dodson went the distance with a no-hitter for the win, sending seven batters back to the dugout with strike outs. TJ Foley banged in four runs on three hits, including a double, scoring twice and stole a base while busy.

Long bombs lift Edna

    The Edna Cowgirls split two District 30-2A games over Spring Break March 11 and 15.
    Travelling to Palacios, Edna lost 5-1 March 11.
    Haley Orsak pitched a complete game, giving up 5 hits and striking out 4. The Cowgirls scored first on hits by Desiree Chavarria and Daisy Mata, but the Sharkettes took the lead in the third after some Cowgirl errors. With the score 2-1 in the fifth, a Sharkette home run by Adriana Molina put the score at 5-1.

Taylor sitting pretty at State

    Ganado’s Megan Taylor did it again, winning a third consecutive state title March 16 at the Texas State Girls’ Powerlifting Meet in Corpus Christi. Teammate Zoe Valdez of Ganado finished second in her division, and the Ganado Maidens powerlifting team ended their season ranked fourth in Texas in 1A competition. For the Edna girls in 2A state competition, Ja-Nessia Prince finished fourth in the Texas girls 181 lbs. class. The Cowgirls wrapped up the year ranked 30th.
    Taylor moved 1,200 lbs. of steel for the title, besting the next closest lifter by 125 lbs. She had a squat of 540, posted 240 on the bench and deadlifted 420 to seal her win.

Edna teams take second at home tournament

    The Cowboy Invitational was held at the Edna Country Club March 5 and 7, with the home town Cowboy and Cowgirl squads each finishing second.
Edna Boys
    The Edna Cowboy team came in with a set goal, and shooting a 362 for second place hit that mark.
Edna Girls
    The Edna girls golf team finished second, with individual efforts from Khloe Karl and Britany Billings earning them second and third medalist individually.
Ganado Boys
    The Tribe shot a 506 for fourth place in the boys tourney March 5.
Ganado Girls
    The mass of Maidens made a fourth-place finish on their complete team with a 487, just a stroke ahead of Industrial.

Maids up short

    The Ganado Maidens scored three points in the seventh inning against a stout Cuero defense, but a fingertip catch by the Gobbler short stop ended the rally, and the Maidens came up short at home in non-conference play March 5, falling 5-6. Ganado is 8-5.
    Georgi Garza went five innings with the start and the loss against 26 batters, striking out two and walking a pair. Brianna Ledwik stepped in to relieve the final two innings, striking out three of nine batters with no walks.

Opener a loss

    The Cobras were one shy, opening District 30-2A play with a 2-3 home loss to Goliad March 1. Industrial is 5-10 overall, 0-1 in district.
    Madison Garza went the distance, striking out a baker’s dozen for 13 Ks and walking just one. She allowed just a pair of hits. Garza’s record is 2-6.

Edna hot’n cold

    The Edna Cowboys opened District 30-2A play on the road against Bloomington March 5 with an 8-1 win, scoring seven points in the sixth innings.
    DeQuan Cantu started, going the distance for 8 KOs and 3 walks earning the win. Ross Novian and Billy Ganem each had a pair of hits with a runner scored.

Snakes edge Tribe 1-0 in Hallettsville

Ganado
    Ganado fell to Gonzales 1-10 March 9 to finish the Hallettsville tourney. March 7, the Indians fell to Hallettsville 0-11 and Industrial 0-1. Ganado thumped Runge 22-6 to start the week on March 5.
Industrial
    The Cobras closed their Hallettsville tournament appearance with a loss, 3-16 on March 9. March 8 Industrial boomed Bloomington for their District 30-2A season opener. On March 5, the Cobras defeated the rival Indians 1-0 and fell to host Hallettsville 0-10.

Cobra doubles and mixed get gold

    Industrial tennis traveled to Cuero for the Cuero Invitational tennis tournament March 7-8.
Industrial
    On Thursday the Varsity girls competed and the doubles team of Elissa Beaudoin and Maddie Lewis took first place.
Edna
    The Edna tennis teams played at the Cuero Invitational March 7-8.
    Thursday, Allison Kotlar beat Shiner 8-6, beat La Grange 8-3, and lost in the championship to Shiner 1-8.
