Cobra All-District honored

For their 2013-14 season efforts, Industrial boys basketball players were named to the All-District 30-2A teams. Youthful Tribe tested in stretch

The Ganado Indians fell to Flatonia March 28 at home 5-1.
    “It was a good pitching performance by Benny Garcia,” said Head Coach George Banda. “The defensive play of the night - Kyle Sparkman made an ESPN diving catch in left center. Totally horizontal, 4 feet in the air! Big league catch!”

Maidens tied for third

    The Ganado Maidens faced two of the three top-25 ranked teams in District 29-1A play, hosting 25th-ranked Flatonia and 1st ranked Weimar.
    Ganado downed Flatonia March 28 at home 10-1. Brianna Ledwik (5-4) faced 27 batters in seven innings, striking out six, allowing a single run.

‘Boys improve to second

    The Edna Cowboys needed wins to stay in the playoff picture, and they picked up a pair this week against Bloomington and Aransas Pass. The Cowboys are 8-7 overall, 5-3 in District 30-2A play.
    Edna was in exhibition mode March 28 at home against Bloomington, putting on an 11-hit, 11-run error-free show and an 11-0 shutout.

Looks worse than it is at first

Brandon Maraggia of Industrial decleats the Aransas Pass short stop while stealing second base in the third inning at home on March 28. He was declared safe after the dust settled. Industrial fell to Aransas Pass 11-0, and to Tidehaven 5-3 March 26 after 8 innings.

Triple doubles advancing

The District 30-2A Tennis meet was in Aransas Pass March 28 and three district teams advance to Regionals in San Marcos April 17-18.
    The Industrial varsity girls won the District 30-2A team trophy with 30 points.
    The Cobra girls doubles team of Elissa Beaudoin and Maddie Lewis, and the mixed doubles team of Miguel Miro and Rachel Klasel were the district champions.

Edna golf 1-2 at district

    The Cowboy and Cowgirl golf teams advanced to Regionals after the boys won their District 30-2A tourney and the girls were second at district March 25-26 held at the Colony Creek County Club in Victoria. The regional golf tournament will be at Quail Creek in San Marcos April 15-16.
    Individually, Brent Dierlam won district with an 87, shooting a 46 and a 41 and Keaton Crabb was right behind for second with an 88 with a 45 and 43.

Five named as VC All-Stars

    The final basketball season honors have rolled in for Jackson County.
    Ashley Bridges of Ganado was named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All Region Team for Region IV-1A Division I.
    Flying a little under the radar this year, the Victoria College Chic-fil-a All-Star Games were played March 25. Kyle Sparkman represented Ganado in the boys game. Facing off in the girls game were Industrial’s Elissa Beaudoin, Ganado’s Abby Stanley and for Edna, Allison Kotlar and Shayna Palacios.
    Named to the TGCA Academic All-State teams were Haylee Dees, Lauren Hlavaty and Stanley for Ganado and Caroline Arellano, Kotlar and Palacios for Edna.

She’s going the distance

Repeat state cross-country appearances helped catch the eye of Stephen F. Austin University, as Industrial’s Courtney High signed with the Lumberjacks for both track and cross country. Flanking High on left and right are her parents Debra and Johnnie High, and in back are Track Coach LeFawn Snedecor and Cross Country Coach Robert Elkins.

Track stars district ready

    The Industrial Relays Track Meet was on as Vanderbilt was host to high school runners March 28. In boys team competition, Edna finished first with Industrial in second and Ganado came in fourth. In the girls, Edna was first, Industrial second and Ganado third.
