Flying high to greatness

 

Jumping on a trampoline usually starts out as fun, but it also can be an Olympic sport, and Hayden Hammack just won the Gold on the national level in his age group. Not to mention, he’s only nine. 
Hayden went to Kansas City to attend the 2013 U.S. Trampoline and Tumbling Championship in July with around 2,200 other kids and placed high in every competition.

Get Cowboy season tickets

Season football ticket sale dates for the Edna Cowboys are Monday through Friday, Aug. 12-16, from 8-12pm.

Football season ticket holders may purchase tickets during these five days only. All tickets not sold will be offered to the general public on a first-come, first-serve basis starting Monday, Aug. 19.

Industrial ISD coaches held a four-day football camp for all incoming fourth to ninth grade students at the Industrial High School football field. Students learned fundamental skills and stances for defensive and offensive players.

Thunder Pitcher named MVP

Pitcher Kevin Landgrebe of the Jackson County Thunder was recently names co-Most Valuable Player by the fans and the community staff after their championship game against the LaGrange Demons. Landgrebe shared the title with another Demon.

"I didn't think I was going to get it, but I'm honored to win," Landgrebe said. "Besides, I think the whole team played an MVP-worthy game."

Youth Sports Association gives youth opportunity to excel

 

The Jackson County Youth Sports Association is a newly formed nonprofit organization to give the youth of the community the chance to excel in the sport they love. The JCYSA will be encouraging teamwork, good sportsmanship and physical well-being of each participant, while developing the fundamental skills of the sport they are participating in. 
The sports promoted through JCYSA will include: baseball, softball, volleyball, boys and girls soccer and basketball.
As of now the JCYSA has a 12U girls softball team, the Lady Hurricanes, which will be participating in their first tournament in Victoria on August 10. They are only a few players shy of having a 14U girls softball team.

Nolan Ryan clinched for UHV's 'Night for the Jaguars'

 

Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan will be the special guest speaker at the University of Houston at Victoria’s fundraising event, Night for the Jaguars. The event will be at Riverside stadium on Wednesday, Aug. 28, with Ryan speaking at 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets will be $5 for the bleachers down the first and third baselines, while grandstand bleacher seating will be $10 and grandstand stadium seating will be $20.
Ashley Walyuchow, UHV athletic director, said money made from the fundraiser will help support over 140 student athletes who participate with the UHV program yearly.
