Cobra Softball wrap-up

    The Industrial Cobras finished their season May 10-11 in Beeville against Santa Gertrudis in the Regional Qualifier round of the the Division 2 State 2A playoffs. The Cobras finish the season 19-14 with a 12-2 record in league play as the District 29-2A Champions.
    The final game of the best-of-three series went into extra innings May 11, ending in the bottom of the 10th, 4-3 Santa Gertrudis.
    Madison Garza went the distance for the Cobras, striking out 10 batters over 9 1/3 innings, walking two.
    Jordin Jones came alive at the plate, hitting 4 of 5 and a near full cycle with 2 singles, a double and a triple. Jones drove in a pair of RBIs and scored once. Darcie Moreno singled and forced a fielder’s choice, stealing a base and would score and Katlyn Strauss singled, stole a base and crossed home for a score. Garza hit 2 of 4 with a couple singles and an RBI, walking once, and Kasi Bethke singled twice on 2 of 5 batting, stealing a base while in play. Brittany Berger struck out twice and Skylar Chreene hit a sacrifice fly.
    On May 10 to open the series, Industrial fell 13-3 in seven innings.
    Rotating to keep pitchers fresh, Garza pitched 2 2/3 innings, striking out one, Strauss pitched 1 2/3 innings, striking out one and Landry Mikulec pitched 2 2/3 innings, striking out one.
    Jones connected for a solo home run on her only hit and and Darcie Moreno singled, driving in a runner, scoring once herself. Strauss hit 2 of 4 with a triple and a base hit single, scoring once and Elizabeth Kolodziejczyk hit 1 of 3 with a single.
