William "Bill" Hollingsworth

William Campbell “Bill” Hollingsworth, of Edna, age 89 passed away March 2, 2016. He was born Sept. 28, 1926 in Harlingen, Texas to the late Louis Robert and Eleanor Campbell Hollingsworth.
After graduating from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, he served in the United States Navy during WWII. After the war, he continued his education at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he met Sarah Francis Munsell (Hollingsworth) whom he married Oct. 28, 1950.
Bill was an active member of the community. He was president of Jackson County State Bank, Victoria Bank and Trust in Edna, and Lavaca Navidad River Authority. He served on various bank and trust boards, the Edna Independent School District board, and the First United Methodist Church board, of which he was a lifelong member and Sunday School teacher.
He is survived by his children, Sarah Leigh Hollingsworth Kahanek and husband Kelley of Victoria, William Campbell Hollingsworth, Jr. and wife Lanier of Hurst, and James Munsell Hollingsworth of Edna; five grandchildren, Kelley David Kahanek, Jr., William Ross Kahanek and wife Megan, James Morgan Kahanek all of Victoria, William Craig Hollingsworth and wife Rochelle of Las Vegas, Nev. and Katherine Hollingsworth Burchfiel and husband Michael of Siloam Springs, Ark.; and three great-grandchildren, Braden Kade Kahanek, Jackson Hunter Kahanek and Taylor Kelley Kahanek.
He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents and two brothers, Louis Robert Hollingsworth, Jr. and James Alfred Hollingsworth.
A private graveside service was held by the family on March 7 followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Edna with the Rev. Adam Knapp officiating.
