Troy Lee Idom

Troy Lee Idom, 74, passed away March 7, 2016 in Dallas. He was born Nov. 2, 1941 in Yazoo City, Miss. to Troy Lee Idom and Jessie Faye (Moore) Idom. 
Troy earned the rank of Eagle Scout at age 13 and graduated from Edna High School in 1959 and Texas A&I in 1965 with a degree in petroleum engineering. He married Sandra Gail Hart on Sept. 7, 1962 in Edna. After a short stint with Reed Roller Bit in Houston, he took a job with National Supply in Gainesville where he and Sandra raised their family. 
Troy served his community in various ways by coaching Little League baseball, working with the Boy Scouts, being a member on the boards of the Cooke County United Way, the Texoma Regional Blood Bank, the Texoma Regional Planning Commission, and the Gainesville Boys and Girls Club. He served on the Gainesville City Council from 1983 to 1987 and was a Regent for NCTC from 2001 to 2008. 
Troy retired from Boeing in 2001 and he and Sandra traveled all over the world as well as spending their summers in Colorado and winters on the Texas coast. Troy never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Idom of Whitesboro; son Troy (Trae) Idom and wife Kay of St. Cloud, Minn.; son Bret Idom and wife Cindy of Gainesville; daughter Erin Tolbert and husband Rick of Celina; grandchildren Natalie Idom, Sarah Breshears, Crystal Hurst and husband Anthony, Megan Tolbert and Travis Tolbert; sister Patricia Carroll and husband Larry; sister-in-law Judy Giffert of Marietta, OK; and several nieces and nephews. 
A memorial visitation for Troy Lee Idom, Jr., 74, of Whitesboro (formerly a long time Gainesville resident) will be held at Geo J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home in Gainesville on Saturday, March 12 from 2 to 4 p.m..A private burial will be held at a later date in Enon Cemetery, Edna. 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Center or a charity of your choice.
