Wesley Summers

Wesley “Wes” Claiborne Summers passed away at West Memorial Hospital in Katy, on Friday, Dec. 4, 2015 at 8:47 a.m. at the age of 63.
Wes was born in Port Lavaca, on June 17, 1952. He graduated from Escola, SaoPaulo, Brasil in 1970 and went on to earn a Law Enforcement Certificate in 1984, an Associates Degree of Elective Studies in 1989 and an Associates Degree in Instrumentation Technology in 1994 from Brazosport College in Clute. He worked 26 years for Phillips 66 refinery in Sweeny in various capacities and retired in 2002. After retirement he developed his skills as a designer and worked for various companies as an electrical designer. He was currently working as a Senior Electrical Designer for Mustang Woodgroup in Katy.
Wes enjoyed reading, camping, family outings and going on various travel adventures with his wife, Lydia and their two dogs Frodo and Freya.

Lovell Callis

Lovell Hine Callis, of Edna, passed away Friday, Dec. 4, 2015 at the age of 89. She was born in Morales, on June 12, 1926, to the late Tommie and Annie Lee Barnes Hines.
Lovell is survived by her grandchildren, Donald Williams and his wife Lucinda of Victoria, Alicia Williams of Houston, Eldridge Stewart and his wife Kecia of Edna; 18 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. 
In addition to her parents, Lovell is preceded in death by her daughter, Audrey Hines.
Visitation was held on Friday, Dec. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 11 a.m. also in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Hines Cemetery.  Rev. E.C. Stewart and Elder Donald Herring officiated.

Pearl Davenport

Pearl A. Davenport, 91, of Edna passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015.
Pearl was born on Sept. 16, 1924 to Louie Loos and Laura Hoffer Loos in Falcon.
Pearl was married to Charles Davenport on July14, 1943 in Hallettsville, TX. Together they raised their four children.
Pearl is survived by her daughters: Shirley Ann Edwards, Barbara Jean Gates and Sybil Brownson.
Pearl is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Charles Davenport, her son; Charles David Davenport, her granddaughter; Kimberley Edwards Henderson, her sisters; Ethel Gold and Margaret Wick, her brothers; James Loos, Paul Loos and Eugene Loos.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 4 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Slavik Funeral Home in Edna. Funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 5, at 10 a.m. at Slavik Funeral Home, with Pastor Robert Krause officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Speaks Cemetery.

Cheryl Gray

Cheryl Denise McFeron Gray, 56, went to be with her Lord Nov. 29, 2015. She was born in Ganado on May 29, 1959 to Ronnie and Patricia Koop McFeron of Edna. She was baptized into the Christian faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Her sponsors were her uncles, Francis, Wesley, and Lesley Koop. Cheryl attended the Industrial school graduating in May, 1977 as a honor student. She was a coronet player in the Industrial Cobra band for seven years. After graduating, she traveled to Europe and England with the United States Collegiate Wind Band. Cheryl was in New York during the 1977 blackout and in London during Queen Elizabeth's silver jubilee. 
Cheryl graduated from Victoria Jr. College and attended the University of Houston-Victoria. She was a student accompanist for the Victoria College Choir. She was Miss Industrial and competed at the Miss South Texas beauty pageant in Seguin.

Jake Foltyn

Jake Edward Foltyn, 78, of El Maton, passed away Nov. 25, 2015 after a brief illness due to lung problems caused by his farming occupation.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary, daughter Jane Foltyn, sons Jake Foltyn II of Ganado and Jason Foltyn of Houston, five grandchildren and brother Boyd Foltyn.
He was preceded in death by his parents Boyd and Emma Foltyn and daughter Janet Foltyn.
Visitation was held Nov. 30 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. The funeral service was Dec. 1 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing.

Michael Jones

Michael Lee “Mickey” Jones, of Tupelo, Miss, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2015 at the age of 55. He was born on Nov. 26, 1959, in El Campo to Walter Jones and Ruth E. Mays Jones. 
Mickey loved spending time with his family and friends and enjoyed working with large machinery and driving large trucks. 
He is survived by his friend, Joanne Hendrix; mother, Ruth E. Menefee; sisters, Beverly Daniels and her husband Michael, Betty Beames and her husband Brett; brother, Walter Jones and his wife Margaret; step-sisters, Patricia O’Connor, Cynthia Kruppa and her husband Mark; step-brothers, Mark Menefee and Michael Menefee and his wife Shelley; numerous family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Walter Jones; step-father, G.E. “Buddy” Menefee; grandparents; sister, Barbara Ann Jones Fisher; step-brother, George E. Menefee, III.; niece, Jamie Sorenson.

JoAnn Smith

JoAnn Smith, of Edna, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, at the age of 86. She was born in Falfurrias on Aug. 30, 1929, to the late Abraham Harder and Anna Janz Harder.
JoAnn worked as a homemaker for many years. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She is survived by her sons, Tommy Smith and Russell “Rusty” Smith both of Edna; sister, Dorothy Smith of Premont; three grandchildren, James Smith, Ashley Smith, and Alysha Smith; three great-grandchildren, Ryder Smith, Layne Pendleton, Steven Soto; and many other family members and friends.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Claford Mack Smith.
Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, at 2 p.m. in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna. Reverend Phillip Stuckey will be officiating.

William Spacek

William "Bill" Joseph Spacek, Sr. of Ganado returned to the arms of his Creator on Nov. 16, 2015. Born on Aug. 2, 1940, the first born of William Frank and Victoria Eleanora Machicek Spacek, Bill was a loving, kind-hearted son, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He graduated from Ganado High School as valedictorian of his class. He attended Wharton County Junior College where he starred in numerous musicals, as he did at the Sam Houston State University Drama Department.
Bill received two Bachelor of Arts degrees from Sam Houston, his first in Choral Directing, and his second in Industrial Arts.
For 26 years, Bill was a dedicated teacher, beginning his career at Assumption Catholic School in Ganado.  He taught school for the Wyndam ISD at the Goree Women's and Ferguson Units in Huntsville before moving his family to Bay City where he taught Industrial Arts at Bay City High School for 19 years.

Derek Moreland

Derek John Moreland, of Edna, passed away on Monday, Nov. 16, 2015 at the age of 35. He was born on Sept. 29, 1980, in Alvin. 
Derek worked in the oilfield. He touched the lives of many people with his smile, generosity, and his willingness to help others. He was a loving son, father, brother, uncle and friend who will be truly missed.
He is survived by his loving mother, Debbie Moreland of Edna; daughter, Gwendolyn Leanna Moreland; son, John Bryson Moreland both of Victoria; brother, Bryce Moreland and his wife Ashley of Fordtran; grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Garland Hadley of Woodville and Jane Thompson of Goliad; Companion, Lacy Hunt of Vanderbilt; mother of his children, Alicia Garza of Victoria; nieces and nephews, Kallie, Blayke, Blayne, Maggie Mae, Bryley; numerous family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Billy Gene Moreland and John Wayne Bullock; nephew, Tuff Bryson Moreland.

Ima Jean Kacer

Ima Jean Kacer, 76, passed away on Nov. 10, 2015.  She was born on March 31, 1939 in Wells, Texas to Robert and Grace Goodwin Rhodes.
Ima Jean married Edmund John Kacer on June 27, 1957, she retired after working in the family restaurant, Kacer's Dairy King located in Louise for 25 years. Ima Jean was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church and Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas, KJZT No. 43 in Ganado.
Ima Jean is survived by her husband, Edmund John Kacer; her daughters, Theresa Kacer of Houston, Mary and Albert Perez of Louise, Judy and Edward Szurek of Cypress; sons, Edmund Joe Kacer of Ganado, Michael and Taucha Kacer of Titusville, Fla., and John and Janet Kacer of Titusville, Fla.; grandchildren; Emily Kacer and Steven Kacer of Titusville, Fla., three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews; her brother, Edward Keith Rhodes of Houston and sister, Darlene Sherman of Alto.
