Edgar Mac Comeaux

Edgar Malcolm Comeaux, of Edna, passed away Monday, Aug. 18, 2014 at the age of 63.  He was born in Crowley, La., on Jan. 6, 1951, to Vera Mae Harrah-White and the late Harry Joseph Comeaux.
    He was a very well known carpet and flooring installer in the Jackson county area for many years. He was a loving husband, son, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mac will be truly missed by all who knew him.
    Mac is survived by his loving wife, Paula Jo Comeaux; mother, Vera Mae Harrah-White and husband Henry White of Edna; daughter, Tanya Johnson and husband Rick of Houston; sons, Dwight Comeaux and wife Jessica of Edna and Heath Janecka and wife Lou of Houston; sister, Bonnie Beth Rowe and husband Harry of Streetman; brothers, Harry J. Comeaux and wife Bobbie of Houston and Maxwell J. Harrah and wife Vanessa of Edna; grandson, Shaughn T. Comeaux of Edna; and great-grandson, Johnathon Aldana of Houston.

Lorene Kuban

    Lorene Josephine Pakebusch Kuban, of Edna, age 84, passed away Thursday, Aug.14, 2014, with her family by her side. She was born in Gonzales on Feb. 28, 1930 to the late Rudolph and Elsa Pakebusch.
    She is survived by her daughter, Betty Lorene Wimberly and husband Clovis of Ganado; son, Lee Wayne Karl and wife Renee of Edna; brothers, Buddy Pakebusch of Victoria and Sonny Pakebusch of Kingwood; one sister, Cleo Tomas of Gonzales; grandchildren, Sherri Martin and husband Matt of Lolita, LaFawn Snedecor and husband Tim of Ganado, and Forrest Karl of Edna; great-granddaughters, MaKayla and Skylar Lenamon, Lexi Snedecor, and Maci Martin. “Nanny” was known as a very loving wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and so much more. Her kindness and open door will be remembered by everyone she came in contact with.

Andrew Gutierrez

Andrew Charles Gutierrez, of Edna, age 49, passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2014. He was born in Ganado on Sept. 5, 1964 to Clara Aldaco Gutierrez and the late Manuel Garcia Gutierrez, Sr.
    Andrew was known for his great personality. He adored his wife, daughters and his two grandsons who were his whole world including his family. He was looking forward to having his first granddaughter, Kinsley Drew Edwards who is due in October. He loved the outdoors and teaching his oldest grandson, Daylon Andrew, how to hunt, fish and follow in his own father’s footsteps as he was taught as a child. He was a family man who worked hard in the oilfield as a crane operator for Allegiance Crane in Carrizo Springs. He spent many days away from home to provide for his family. He was known for his crazy jokes that would make your stomach hurt for days. He was loved by so many people who knew him and he will be greatly missed. Heaven gained a wonderful and loving angel.

Johnny Jones

Johnny Eldon Jones, 74, passed away Tuesday Aug. 12, 2014. Born July 28, 1940 in Luling to the late William and Birma Mitchell Jones, Johnny was retired from Exxon after 33 years of service.
    Johnny is survived by his wife, Barbara, daughter, Jewel Marie ( John) Anderson and son, Bradley Jones. Also surviving are his sister, Linda Gail ( Luther) McDonald and brother William James (Mary) Jones, Jr.; grandchildren, John Garner III, James Austen and Julien Marie Anderson and great-great-grandchildren, Kayly, Zoey and Lucy Anderson. He is preceded in death by his parents.
    Visitation will be Friday Aug. 15 from 8:30 a.m. till Rosary service at 10 a.m. and a Mass at 10:30 a.m. at the St.Theresa Catholic Church in LaSalle, with Rev. Johnson officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Edna.

Curtis Barnes

    Curtis Barnes, known throughout the Edna community as "Crow", passed away on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014. 
    A resident of Edna, funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 14 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Edna with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. and the funeral at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Hines Cemetery, Edna.

Lupe V. Rodriguez

    Lupe V. Rodriguez, 71, passed away Friday Aug. 8, 2014.  He was born On March 23, 1943, in Ganado to the late Juan and Lucia Diaz Vasquez.
     Lupe is survived by her husband Francisco Rodriguez; her daughters Marcia Gutierres and husband Ernest, Debbie Rodriguez, Victoria Gonzales and husband Carlos; a son, Robert Garcia and wife Elizabeth; brothers Ruben Vasquez and wife Lupe, Roy Vasquez and wife Cherri and Rudy Vasquez and wife Gloria; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
    Preceded are her parents; son, James Garcia, Jr.; brothers, Juan, Jr., Matthew, and Terry Vasquez.
    Visitation was Aug. 11 from 8:30 a.m. until services at 10:30 a.m., at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel, 209 N. Allen St., Edna, with Rev. Andrew Schroer officiating. Interment will follow in the Edna Latin American Cemetery.
    Services are under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home, 361-782-2152.

Thyra Sayles

    Thyra Oneita Sayles was the youngest of six children born to the late Matthew W. Sayles and Norma Bass Sayles.
    Thyra embraced Christ at an early age and assimilated with Shiloh Baptist Church. She later joined Scruggs United Methodist Church where she was actively involved until her health began to fail.
    Thyra began her professional career as a licensed barber. She later attended Licensed Vocational School in Granada, Texas and was a surgical nurse for more than 30 years.
    She began her career as a sales representative for the Batesville Casket Company, taking over from her husband, John Williard Bowden, where she had a fruitful career for more than 20 years.

Rebecca Margos

Rebecca “Becky” A. Margos, 73, passed away Tuesday July 29, 2014. She was born Jan. 1, 1941, in Bridgeport to the late Thurman Grady and Louise Chappelle Rohus. Rebecca was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
    Rebecca is survived by her daughters, Tina (husband Roger) Coleman and Karen (husband Wade ) Bailey, her grandchildren,  grandsons, Brian Coleman and wife Jessica, Chris Sappington and wife Leah, and Quinton Bailey, granddaughter, Bridgette Melton and husband Phillip; great-grandchildren, Abby Sappington, Georgia Coleman, and Hope and Archer Melton.
    Preceded in death are her parents, infant daughter, three sisters and two brothers.
    Memorial services were held Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014 at 1 p.m., at the Carancahua Chapel with Mr. Hollie Briscoe officiating.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be sent to Hospice of South Texas or Carancahua Chapel.

Billy Howard

Billy Wayne Howard, 74, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, entered into the Promised Land with our Lord on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 surrounded by family. Billy was born in Weesatche on Sept. 10, 1939 to the late Earl J and Mary Ellen Howard.
    Billy worked for Howell 26 years. His last job was gate guard.
     He is survived by his devoted wife of 16 years, Cheryl Hull-Howard; loving children April Howard Matulik (Clarence), Lisa Howard Deleon (Bob Trentman); Grandchildren Nathaniel Deleon, Stefanie Deleon Mojica (Mario), Christina Matulik, Annie Matulik, Sarah Matulik (Rodrick), Traci Matulik, Aimee Matulik, Lyndsey Eller, Myranda Trentman, Tony Trentman and 17 great-grandchildren.
