Kenneth Billings

    Kenneth O. Billings, 92 was reunited with his beloved Mary Christine on the evening of Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014. He was born in Smiley, Texas on Jan. 4, 1923 to the late Otto and Sue Hand Billings.
    Survivors include; his son, Kenneth " Sonny" Billings, seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great- grandchildren. He was greatly loved and blessed abundantly.
     Visitation and services will be held Saturday Oct. 11 at the Baptist Temple Church in Edna. Viewing will began at 9:30 a.m. and services will be at 11 a.m., with Rev. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Red Bluff Cemetery.
    Services are under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home, 209 N. Allen St. Edna, 361-782-2152.

Charles C.J. Barnes

Charles “C.J.” James Barnes, of Edna passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at the age of 69. He was born Nov. 30, 1944, in Bacon Town to the late Eddie Bryant and Ada Lee Brown.
    C.J. was united in marriage to Shanna Miller on Sept. 28, 2012. He was proudly employed by Hermes & Steffek in Edna for many years. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Morales. C.J. was deeply loved by everyone who knew him. He took great and special pride in all of his grandchildren. C.J. loved life and always gave people a second chance. He loved his horses, great conversation with close family, friends, loving driving 18-wheelers, or as he would call them, the “Big Trucks”.

Anton Olsovsky

    Anton B. Olsovsky, 77 of El Campo, passed away on Sept. 17, 2014.  He was born on July 27, 1937 in Lolita to the late Frank William and Mary Soseck Olsovsky. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a retired truck driver.
    He is survived by his son Anton Olsovsky, Jr. of El Campo, sister Claudia Keyser of Houston,  brother Louis Olsovsky of Ganado, and longtime friend and companion Rita Sifford of El Campo.  He was preceded in death his siblings Bessie Stienke, Mary Anderson, Lilly Cuberley, Lucy Belicek, Celia Olsovsky, Joe Olsovsky, Edwin Olsovsky and Frank Olsovsky, Jr.
    A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado with Rev. Michael Lyons officiating. Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. prior to the Mass.

Truman Brasuell

    Truman Lee Brasuell, of Edna, Tx, passed away Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, at the age of 92.  He was born March 9, 1922, in Stockdale.
    Truman served in the U. S. Army in the Horse Calvary. He worked as a painter, sandblaster for Union Carbide for 25 years. He was a Boy Scout leader and in the V.F.W. of Lolita, and a life time member of the Mustang Square Dancers, he was also a member of The Trinity Episcopal Church of Edna. Truman was a loving father, grandfather and brother who will be dearly missed.

Lorraine Quebe

Lorraine Grace Quebe, 95, passed away Sunday Sept. 21, 2014.  She was born on Feb. 19,1919 in Sugar Land to the late Louis and Grace Janacek. 
    She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Christ; sons, Ronnie (Carol) Crist, and David (Peggy) Christ; and brother, Bill (Irene) Janacek. Also surviving are her two grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
    Visitation was Sept. 26  from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ganado Funeral Home 800 So. Third St..
    Services were Sept. 27 with a rosary recited at 9:30 a.m. and a Mass at 10 a.m., at the Assumption Catholic Church in Ganado with the Rev. Michael Lyons officiating. Interment was in the Assumption Catholic Cemetery. 
    Services are under the directions of Ganado Funeral Home, 800 So. Third St., 361-771-2120.

Alton Curtis Terrell

    Alton Curtis Terrell, 88, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014 in Edna. He was born on Feb. 7, 1926 in Navidad to the late Ralph and Lottie Mae Whitley Terrell.
    Curtis graduated from Edna High School, He began working part time in the oil industry while attending high school and began a full time career with Allen and Morris after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Although he loved his work as a driller, he went to work for Union Carbide in 1954. He retired from his position of Emergency Director in 1983. He then focused on his lifelong passion of cattle ranching on his land in Navidad, which has been in his family for generations. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Edna.
    Curtis enjoyed spending time with his family. He inspired his children with his integrity and strong work ethics. His grandchildren fondly remember him as an avid story teller, sharing detailed stories about his life and family.

Harley Gene Brod

Harley Gene Brod, age 61, of Yoakum died Sept. 24, 2014. He was born July 31, 1953 in El Campo to Donald and Wanda Aber Brod.
    He is survived by his mother Wanda Aber  Brod of Columbus; daughter, Donna Tesch and husband Bruce of Columbus; and grandchildren, Tara, Zachery, Jessica and Hunter Tesch all of Columbus.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Lee Brod; son, Jason Brod; and brother, Kirk Brod.
    Visitation was at noon on Friday at Wheeler Funeral Home in El Campo. The family received visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral service was at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 27 at Wheeler Funeral Home with services conducted by Rev. Danny Aber and assited by Donald Roddy. Burial followed at Garden of Memories.

Daniel Peralez Sr.

    Daniel Peralez, Sr., 52, of Edna passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014. He was born on April 28, 1962 in Ganado to the late Juan and Georgia Gonzales Peralez. Daniel worked for Jackson County Feed Store.
    Survivors include his loving wife, Connie Sanchez Peralez; daughters, Angelina Peralez, Annabel Peralez; all of Edna; sons, Alfonso Vasquez of Edna, Jose Vasquez of San Antonio, Daniel Peralez, Jr. of Edna; brothers, Manuel Peralez of Victoria, Steve Peralez of Corpus Christi, Raymond Peralez of Victoria, Jesse Peralez of Indianapolis, Martin Peralez of Alvin, Buddy Peralez of Victoria; sisters, Sheila Peralez, Gloria Chavez, Rachael Figirova all of Victoria, Mary Jane Gonzales of Edna, Beatrice Salazar, Stella Partida both of Victoria and ten grandchildren.

Mary Lydia Galvan-Gonzales

Mary Lydia Galvan-Gonzales, of Edna, passed away Sept. 26, 2014, at the age of 63. She was born Jan. 18, 1951, in Edna to the late Pete Lugo and Minnie Garza.
    Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister whom will be missed dearly. Her time on earth was cherished by all that knew her.
    She is survived by her husband of 40 years Miguel Galvan-Gonzales; daughters, Blanca Galvan and fiance Juan Galarza of Victoria and Felicia Galvan and fiance Joe Loera of Austin; son, McKensey Corey Romo of Dallas; sister, Eva Ramirez (Jesse) of Edna; brothers, Frank Hernandez (Diane) of Edna, Rudy Hernandez (Dora) of Port Lavaca and Joe Lugo, Sr. of Vanderbilt; grandchildren Michael Austin Hernandez of Edna and Sean Loera of Austin.
    Mary is preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Fred Montelongo, sister, Lupe Hernandez; brothers, Ricardo Hernandez, Tony Hernandez and John Hernandez.

Johnny Thomas

    Johnny Wayne Thomas, of Edna, passed away Friday, Sept. 12, 2014 at the young age of 34.
    Visitation was Monday, Sept. 15, from 5-7 p.m., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16 in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Claude Prince officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery in Ezzell.
