Helen Skrehot

    Helen Marie Skrehot, 79, of Edna passed away Monday, Nov. 10, 2014. Helen was born on Sept.12, 1935 in Shiner to the late Edmund and Indianola Schroeder Boehl.
     Helen is survived by her children, Susie Shefcik, Barbara Pamplin, Sharon Dean, Jeannie Greathouse, and Gary Brown and James Skrehot. She is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Vancura; brother, Quinton Buehl; and 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
    She is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Beverly Gerald and brothers, Dennis and Weldon Boehl.
    A memorial service was held Sunday, Nov. 16 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 504 Dugger St., Edna with Rev. Andrew Schroer officiating.
    Services are under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home, 209 N. Allen St., 361-782-2152.

Dennis Muschalek

    Dennis John Muschalek, 82 of Edna, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014.
    Dennis was born on April 8, 1932 to the late John and Victoria Jendrzey Muschalek in Edna. Dennis retired as the owner of Dennis Muschalek Construction, Inc.  and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
     Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Caroline Beyer; their son Jeff Muschalek and wife Janice of Edna; their daughters; Tammy Zajicek and husband Charles of Edna, and Tracey Myska and husband Raymond of Needville;  eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
     Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Donna Kay Payne, son Stanley Ray Muschalek; sisters, Dorothy Susil, Elizabeth Boyd and Anne Stowe; and brothers, Frank, Louis and Paul Muschalek.
     Pallbearers were his grandsons Derrick and Kyle Muschalek, Dustin Muncrief, Jayce Payne, Eric Floyd and Marshall Coots.

Helen Martin

Helen R. Martin, 87, of LaWard, passed away Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014. She was born in Junction City, La., on Oct. 16, 1927, to the late Raymond I. and Trudie Mae Hanry Revel.
    She was a loving mother, mother in law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be dearly missed. She touched the hearts of everyone that knew her.

Thomas Cosper

    Thomas Olan “Tommy” Cosper, 87, of Horatio, Ark. and formerly of Edna, passed away Monday, Nov. 10, 2014 peacefully from his earthly home to his home with his Lord and Savior. His passion was to serve others unselfishly and for sharing God’s Word in hope that others would experience the same joy that he had for his Lord Jesus Christ.
    He was born Oct. 17, 1927 to the late Floyd Olan “Dick” and Verbey Cosper of Edna. Tommy served in the army during World War II. He worked for Mobil Oil in Texas, Louisiana and on rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. Upon retirement, he moved to Arkansas and began his active life as a cattleman. He was a member of the Williamson Baptist Church of Horatio.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lois Maxey Cosper and wife, Mildred Cantrell Cosper; son, Ronald Bruce Tate and brother, Richard Wells Cosper.

Flora "Libby" Ellison

Flora Elizabeth Wells Ellison "Libby" went to be with the Lord, Nov. 6, 2014. She died at home in Fredericksburg.
    She was born in Edna, Aug. 17, 1927. She attended Texas State College for Women before it became TWU. She married Floyd Ellison April 22, 1950. She invested her life in people, loved learning and gave the best Christmas Eve parties.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, Dr. Robert Wells and Marjorie Patterson Wells, and all five of her older siblings.
    She is survived by her son George Ellison and three daughters all of Fredericksburg. Her daughters and families  include  Suzanne Ellison-Ramsay and son-in-law  John, Catherine Scholl and son-in-law Mark, and Patricia Kitzmiller, and son-in-law, Thom.
    She has 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and counting.

Paul Basquez

    Paul Basquez, Jr., 47, of Victoria passed away Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014. He was born May 16, 1967 in Giddings to Paul Bazquez, Sr. and Virginia Cortez Basquez, of Victoria. He was a bricklayer and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.
    In addition to his parents he is survived by his long time companion, Nancy Lucio of Victoria; sisters, Christina Basquez and Cynthia (Jesse) Castillo, both of Victoria; brother, Gilbert (Regina) Basquez of Edna.
    He was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Basquez.
    The family received friends at Rosewood Funeral Chapels Monday, Nov. 10 from 5 to 7 p.m.. A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m.
    Funeral services were at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Burial followed at Resurrection Cemetery.
    Pallbearers were Gilbert Basquez, Paul Basquez, James Basquez, Jesse Castillo, Sr., Jesse Castillo, Jr. and Jacob Castillo.

Effie Scherer

    Effie Stella Scherer, of Edna, age 80, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014. She was born in Victoria on Sept. 16, 1934, to the late Frank and Alice Berryhill Zbikowski.
    Effie loved to work on the farm she was a farmer for many years. She was also a loving wife, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed. She touched the hearts of everyone that knew her.
    Effie is survived by her husband of 53 years, Preston Scherer of Edna; sister, Rosalie Carroll of Inez; brother, Walter Carroll of Dallas; nieces, Kathy Carroll and Betty Carroll; nephews, Allan Carroll and Melton Carroll. 
    She is preceded in death by her parents; nephew, James Zbikowski; and one niece who died at birth.
    Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m., in the Farrer Cemetery with Rev. Gabriel Bentil officiating.

Libby Ellison

    Flora Elizabeth Wells Ellison "Libby" went to be with the Lord, Nov. 6, 2014. She died at home in Fredericksburg.

Davis George

    Davis George, 92, of Jacksonville, Fla. passed Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, after an extended illness. He was born Feb. 1, 1922. He was a member of Sunset Baptist Church. He retired from Cotton Belt Railroad. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.
    He is survived by his wife Verna Mae George, daughters, Ruby Grace Clayburg of Aransas Pass and Wanda Beth Bednarz of Edna; son Marvin Davis George Sr. of Recklaw, Fla.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. 
    Services were at 2 p.m. on Oct. 15 at Boren Conner Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

David Kocurek

    David Lee Kocurek, 57, of Edna, passed away on Monday, Oct. 27, 2014.
    A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on  Oct. 30 at Assumption Catholic Cemetery, with Rev. Michael Lyons officiating.
    The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the family to help defray expenses.
    Funeral services are under the direction of Slavik Funeral Home, 209 N. Allen St. Edna, 361-782-2152.
