Cobras nipped by Crabs

    The Industrial Cobras endured a nine-inning grind in Port Lavaca Feb. 26 against the Calhoun Sandcrabs, finally falling 2-3. Industrial is 5-9 overall.
    Madison Garza got the start, striking out 14 batters over nine innings, walking four.

Cowgirls win 3 of 4

    The Edna Cowgirls were defeated 9-6 by Aransas Pass March 1 at home in their District 30-2A opener. Edna is 9-6 overall, 0-1 in district.
    Brittany Ressman and Haley Orsak pitched for the Cowgirls. Edna gave up 5 runs in the second and third innings, but trailed just 7-8. The Cowgirls rallied back in seventh inning, but would leave the bases loaded. Lead hitters for the Cowgirls were orsak, Taylor Darilek, Daisy Mata and Madison Kucera.
    “We hurt ourselves with key errors and left too many runners on base,” said Head Coach Ted Malek. “We also have some key injuries hat need to heal and that will get us going.”

Cowboys go 2-2 at Calhoun

Edna
    The Edna Cowboys also played in the Calhoun tourney Feb. 28-March 2. The Cowboys thrashed Bloomington 14-3, defeated Odem 4-2, fell to Calhoun 1-9, and were fell to Banquete 1-7.
Ganado
    At the Sacred Heart Hallettsville tournament Feb. 28 and March 2, the Ganado Indians fell 10-0 to Hallettsville, 5-2 to St. Joseph and 10-0 to Weimar before defeating host Sacred Heart 12-1.
Industrial
    The Industrial Cobras fell to St. Joseph 6-16 Feb. 26. At the Calhoun tournament Feb. 28 and March 2, the Cobras defeated Banquete 807, but dropped games to Bloomington 3-9, Calhoun 1-7 and Odem 5-13.
    District 30-2A baseball begins March 8 for Edna and Industrial.

Three Cowboy golfers hit 90 in Weimar

Edna
    The Edna golfers were in Weimar Feb. 25 and 26 as the Cowboys finished fourth with a 361 and the Cowgirls came in eighth with a 467.

Ganado
    Ganado golf headed to the coast to hit the links in Palacios Feb. 25-26. The Maidens Maroon team finished second with a 361 and White was fourth with a 379. The Indians came in eighth as a team.
   At Boling Feb. 18, Indian golf finished third as a team.

Jumble, jumble all at La Ward’s house

The La Ward 4-H Rifle Club hosted a meet Feb 22-23, and the troop showed up. Results, not in pictured order, were as follows: Juniors, Waylon Budd-first, Cole Armstrong- third, Nicole Henderson-Escamilla- seventh, Luke Bearden- eighth, Jack Genke-10th, Trevor Vasquez, Cheyann Parks, Candido Hernandez, and  Kooper Karl. First Place team Waylon, Cole, Luke, and Nicole. Junior Inter.,Luke Prove, Dylan Parks, Blake Hudson, Annabelle Prove, Miguel Hernandez, Samara Neil. Seniors-Maci Engelmohr- ninth, Sydni Engelmohr, and Cassandra Hernandez.

Industrial senior Will Knopp earned Honorable Mention at linebacker on the 62nd Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 2A All-State Football Team.

Cobra doubles win at Aransas

 

Industrial
The Industrial Tennis racketeers traveled to Aransas Pass Feb. 28 for the Aransas Pass High School Invitational Tennis Meet with 17 teams in attendance. Varsity girls doubles team Elissa Beaudoin and Maddie Lewis won first place by defeating Port Aransas in the final 8-3. Varsity mixed doubles team Miguel Miro and Rachel Klasel finished second, losing to Calhoun in the finals in a tie-breaker.
Edna
Edna Tennis opened their season Feb. 28 in Aransas Pass. In mixed doubles, Allison Kotlar and Brandon Nidey beat a team from Mathis and lost to the team from Industrial. Autumn Grahmann and Raul Gracia beat a team from Odem and lost to a team from Calhoun.
In boys singles, Hunter Green beat a Refugio player, beat Taft and lost to St. Joseph. On JV, Cristen Mesa and Justin Jalomo beat a team from Mathis and lost to a team from Jourdanton.

High sweeps girls distance events in Ganado

Ganado hosted a track meet Feb. 28 with both Edna teams finishing second, in both boys and girls. The Industrial girls were third and Ganado girls fourth, and the Ganado boys came in third with the Industrial boys sixth. Individual results are in the subscriber section.
