Industrial Cobras host track meet and place high

    Industrial High School hosted a track meet on Thursday, Feb. 20, and the varsity boys team won first place with 198 points. Ganado High School competed at the same track meet and the boys won third place with 123 points. Industrial girls varsity team won third place with 109 points and Ganado girls varsity won seventh place with 10 points.

Maidens win tourney

    The Ganado Maiden softball team played in a Shepherd tournament this weekend, taking home first place.
    “We out-scored our competition 38-0, never allowing a run to be scored,” said Coach Malina Andel. “We played well, and made mistakes, but we didn’t carry it over into the next pitch. I’m very pleased with how well we played and how well we played as a team!”
    Jordan Banda was selected as the team’s MVP and other all-tournament selections include Brianna Ledwik, Lindsay Kocian, Ashley Bridges, Taylor Mirelez and Cheyenne Galindo.

Edna High hosts track meet

    Edna High School hosted a track meet on Thursday, Feb, 20, and the Edna boys placed fourth with a score of 96 points. The Edna Cowgirls placed fourth as well, with a total of 84 points.

Edna Golf boys dominate Boling

    The Edna Cowboys golf team participated in a Boling invitational tournament on Monday, Feb. 17, and won first place with a team score of 358 points.
    Top medalist was Brent Dierlam with 82 points, and Keaton Crabb earned third top medal with 88 points. Other members on the team are Dutch Rab, Hunter Boxwell and Lane Koop.
    “It was definitely a team effort,” said golf Coach Ken Ballinger.

Lady Cobras deal with hard loss

The Industrial Lady Cobras (18-5) played Marion in a playoff game on Tuesday, Feb. 1, and lost 30-55.
    “This playoff loss was very disappointing and was tough to swallow. We played nowhere near our potential,” said Coach Brandon Karl. “We came out a little timid and couldn’t find a way to score, we picked a very bad night to shoot our lowest percentages for the season.”
    According to Karl, the Cobras shot 11 out of 36 free throws and eight out of 61 from the field.

Indian Tribe earns fourth

    The Ganado Indians (4-8) played Weimar on Tuesday, Feb. 11, and lost, 35-37.
    “We lost to a heartbreaker,” said Coach John Armstrong. “We were down early and started slow, and we still made our way back to play hard. But Weimar has a good team, they’re district champs.”
    Kameron Smith scored 10 points, and Clay Vesely scored eight points. Austin Alford and Taylor Thedford each scored six points apiece.
    “We had a shot at a last-second shot to tie the game but we missed it,” Armstrong said.
    The Indians were tied for third place with Flatonia and played each other in a district game on Friday, Feb. 14, and lost with a final score of 32-43.
    With that game, the Indians finished their season placing fourth in district.

Maidens give great effort

    The Ganado Maidens played the Pettus War Eagles on Monday, Feb. 10, and won 73-37.
    Taylor Mirelez scored 29 points, four offensive rebounds, seven defensive rebounds, a steal and an assist, and Ashley Bridges scored 21 points, three offensive rebounds, eight defensive rebounds, two blocks, four steals and two deflections. Valeria Garcia scored eight points, two offensive rebounds, a defensive rebound and a block, and Ashley Allen scored seven points, an offensive rebound and three defensive rebounds. Sarah Novak scored six points, an offensive rebound, a steal and seven assists, and Cheyenne Galindo scored two points and a defensive rebound. Sierra Salazar earned a defensive rebound, a block, two steals and two assists, and Lizzie Callis had three defensive rebounds. Emma Weschler added an offensive rebound and Jordan Banda added a steal.
