Girls regional powerlifting results from Palacios

    The Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association Region 4 Division 3 Powerlifting Meet was held in Palacios on Feb. 26. The Edna Cowgirls placed second overall with a score of 37 points, the Ganado Indians placed fourth with a total of 15 points, the Industrial Cobras placed fifth with an overall score of 13 points. Individual scores are as follows:
    97lb. weight class: 3rd place, Edna, Kamryn Roman, squat 195, bench press 100, dead lift 200, total 495; 4th place, Ganado, Claudia Ayala, squat 165, bench press 90, dead lift 225, total 480.
    105lb. weight class: 1st place, Edna, Kamryn Johnson, squat 190, bench press 80, dead lift 230, total 500.
    114lb. weight class: 3rd place, Industrial, Courtney Sackett, squat 195, bench press 95, dead lift 245, total 535.

Ganado hosts track meet

    Ganado High School hosted a track meet on Thursday, Feb. 27. The varsity Industrial boys placed first with a team score of 134 points, and the varsity Ganado boys placed third with a team score of 102 points.
    100 Meter Dash: 2nd place, Industrial, Daniel Santillan, 11.74; 3rd place, Ganado, Dalton Service, 11.97; 6th place, Industrial, Lane Peterson.
    200 Meter Dash: 3rd place, Industrial, Avery Milner, 23.90.
    400 Meter Dash: 5th place, Industrial, Jacob Muncrief, 57.96; 6th place, Montavius Coleman, Industrial, 58.38.
    800 Meter Run: 1st place, Industrial, Will Maraggia, 2:04.96.
    1600 Meter Run: 3rd place, Industrial, Leo Baez, 5:16.56; 6th place, Pablo Gonzalez, 5:52.84.
    3200 Meter Run: 2nd place, Industrial, Leo Baez, 11:11.43; 4th place, Ganado, Taylor Thedford, 11:40.15; 5th place, Industrial, Pablo Gonzalez, 11:49.75; 6th place, Industrial, James Adams, 12:15.75.

Carlos Gonzales of Edna killed his first buck at Homer Perez Ranch in Freer. His family, Karen and Bobby Gonzales and sister Scarlett, plus his Popo, Johnny Gonzales were with him as well.

Edna Ag team earns high honors

The Edna Agricultural Mechanics team competed against many other school from all over the state at the San Antonio Rodeo and received fourth place in the Wildlife class and second place in the Electrical Shop Equipment class, winning nearly $1,000 in prizes. From left are, front, Garrett Davis and Clinton Andel; back, Matthew Kucera, teacher Curtis Koop, Dalton Martin and Lane Hadley. The team will also be taking their projects to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo next month. This was their first trip to the San Antonio Rodeo, and being underclassmen, are already looking forward to competing again next year.

    The Industrial Lady Cobras softball team has been working hard these past couple of months. Here are their scores so far.
    Industrial-1, Foster-7; Industrial-6, Brazosport-0; Industrial-15, Gonzales-0; Industrial-17, Luling-0; Industrial-5, Shiner-6; Industrial-13, Runge-1; Industrial-14, Cuero-4; Industrial-5, Calhoun-1; Industrial-4, Shiner-1.
    Madison Garza, Jordin Jones, Darcie Moreno, Landry Mikulec, Brittany Berger, Katie Sparkman and Skylar Chreene are just some of the mvps of the past games, either pitching and hitting their Lady Cobra way to the top.

Cobra baseball

    Coach Stephen Gillis said it was a tight game until Boling scored six late runs for the 14-3 victory over Cobras on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
    Cobra Cade Peterek was charged with the loss. He lasted three innings, walked none, struck out three, and allowed two runs.
    Boling stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the third inning, scoring two runs on a groundout. They brought home one run in the fourth inning, and matched that run total in the fifth. In the fourth, Boling scored on an RBI single.
    One run in the bottom of the fifth helped the Cobras close its deficit to 4-1. A groundout by Luke Smith set off a Cobras rally, and Garrett Sparkman flew out to end the Cobras threat.
    Boling piled on four more runs in the top of the sixth. Two runs in the bottom of the seventh helped the Cobras close its deficit to 15-3.
   Cobra Tyler Conard ended the ballgame.

Cowgirls win in Hornet tourney

    The Edna Cowgirls played in a Louise Lady Hornet tournament this past weekend and won four games: Schulenburg, Rice Consolidated, and Brazos twice.
    They first defeated Schulenburg 4-3 in the first game with Madison Kucera pitching a complete game and striking out eight and giving up two hits. Kucera also had a double and an RBI. Alexis Soto singled and had two RBIs.
    The Cowgirls beat out Rice in their second game 11-0 with Brittany Ressman pitching a shutout and striking out three. Drew Ganem went 3-3, scoring three runs with a triple and and a double. Haley Orsak also had two doubles and three RBIs.
    Brazos was then defeated by the Cowgirls with a score of 6-0 with Orsak pitching a complete game, striking out five. Ganem hit a three-run homerun and batted 3-3. Chasity Richmond had an RBI and Taylor Darilek had 2RBIs.

Boling golf tourney makes Jackson County schools proud

    All three Jackson County girls golf teams competed in a Boling tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 19, and placed very well.
    Edna Cowgirls won first place with a score of 449, Industrial Cobras won second place with 476 points, and Ganado Maidens won third place with 485 points.Individual scores are as follows:
    Edna: Khloé Karl, 113 points; Kamryn Johnson, 114 points; Meghan Kucera, 134 points; Paxton Koop, 112 points; McKayla Marthilijohni, 110 points.
    Industrial Cobras: Hannah Gabrysch, 107 points; Vina Nyugen, 112 points; Mackensie Irwin, 116 points; Taylor McGinnis, 141 points; Jenna Goslin, 142 points.
    Ganado Maidens: JaCee Black, 110 points; Kassidy Dutcher, 130 points; Kaelly Allen, 134 points; Ashlyn Sterling, 129 points; Lauren Gresham, 116 points.
    Industrial’s Gabrysch won first place with her individual score and Edna’s Marthilijohni and Ganado’s Black tied for second place with their individual scores.
