Cobras keep going

    The Industrial Cobras have been racking up their wins lately in baseball. Here are the scores of their recent games.
    The Cobras won against Aransas Pass on March 4 and lost, 6-9. They played Hallettsville on March 6 and lost, 0-3. The Cobras then played Bloominton on March 7 and won, 4-2. The Cobras played Brazos on March 8 and won with a score of 11-8. They played against Refugio and won on Tuesday, March 11, with a score of 13-1.
    The Industrial Cobras will have played the Edna Cowboys on Tuesday, March 18, and will play against Tidehaven on March 21, there.

Girls’ hitting improving, according to coach

    The Edna Cowgirls played four games during Spring Break because of weather cancellations. On Friday, March  7, they traveled to Refugio and beat the Lady Bobcats 10-4. Madison Kucera pitched a complete game and hit a homerun.
    On Saturday, March 8, the Cowgirls defeated Bloominton 6-4. Brittany Ressman started pitching and Kucera pitched the last inning.
    On Tuesday, March 11, Haley Orsak pitched a complete game, helping her team defeat the Palacios Lady Sharks 13-3. Orsak also hit a homerun and 2RBIs.
    On Friday, March 14, the Edna Cowgirls traveled to Tidehaven and defeated the Lady Tigers 17-1. Kucera and Ressman pitched the victory. The team scored five in the third inning and seven in the fourth inning. Taylor Darilek had two hits and 2RBIs.

‘Boys are working hard

    The Cowboys played against Refugio on March 7, and won with a score of 6-2. Billy Ganem and David John Kallus each had 2 RBIs apiece, and Ganem and Colton Richmon hit doubles. Richmond had 10 strikeouts, four walks and pitched seven innings.
    The Cowboys played Bloomington on March 8 and won, 15-3. Ross Novian, Kallus and Ganem had 3 RBIs each, and Richmond had 2 RBIs, a double and a homerun. Novian and Ganem also added a homerun to their numbers. Landon Myers had four strikeouts and three walks pitching.
    The Cowboys then played Palacios on March 11, and pulled another win with a score of 13-5. Zakary Zantjer, Ganem and Guy Dodson had 2 RBIs each. Ganem, Novian and Dodson had two doubles apiece.
    The Edna Cowboys will have played the Industrial Cobras on Tuesday, March 18, and will play Goliad on March 21.

Maidens take Flatonia tourney

    The Ganado Maidens played against Flatonia in their first district game on March 5, and won 17-7.

    On the weekend of March 7 they played in a Flatonia tournament. They played Smithville and won, 6-1 and played Halletsville Sacred Heart with a win, 4-1. They also played Poth and won, 17-0. Lindsay Kocian had two runs in the game against Smithville. Against Poth, Kocian also gave three runs.

Lady Cobras cannot stop

    The Lady Cobras (12-2) played Aransas Pass on Monday, March 10, and captured an 18-0 victory. Twelve runs in the first three innings allowed the team to put the game away early.

    Lady Cobra Madison Garza threw a no-hitter on Tuesday, March 11, and helped the Industrial Lady Cobras to win over Refugio with a 15-0 victory.

     The Lady Cobras then played Palacios on Friday, March 14, and blasted off with a 11-4 win in seven innings. Jordin Jones helped her team take the lead for good in the last inning.

Edna hosts girls golf meet

    Edna High School hosted a golf meet for the girls on Wednesday, March 5, at the Edna Country Club, and won first place with a score of 458. The Ganado Maidens won second place with a score of 463, and the Industrial Cobras placed fourth with 465 team points.
    From the Edna Cowgirls team, Khloé Karl scored 110 points, and Kamryn Johnson scored 119. Paxton Koop had an individual score of 113, McKayla Marthilijohni shot 119 points and Megan Kucera had a score of 116.
    “These girls work hard, they really don’t ever quick,” Coach Ken Ballinger.
    The Ganado Maidens consisted of JaCee Black, Lauren Gresham, Kaelly Allen, Ashlyn Sterling and Emma Wiegand. Their scores, respectively, are 111, 119, 119, 126 and 121.
    Industrial Cobra Hannah Gabrysch placed second with her individual score of 108, and Vina Nyugen scored 114 points. Mackensie Irwin scored 118 points, and Taylor McGinnis and Jenna Goslin scored 125 points each.

Indian senior signs with Hardin-Simmons football

     Ganado Indian senior Will Malek said he's always liked football becaise it's been the sport he has had the most fun playing, and the fun will continue. Malek signed with the Hardidn-SImmons University in Abilene to play on their offensice line as a Cowboy for the fall season. A smile crept onto Malek's face when he spoke of his future, but his face became instantly humble when his coaches and parents began to speak of his work ethic.

County powerlifting boys represent at regionals

    The 2014 Region 4 Division 3 boys powerlifting regional meet was held at Cleveland High School in Cleveland on Saturday, March 1. The Industrial boys team placed fourth with 17 total team points, and Edna placed eighth with ten points. The Ganado boys team placed 18th with a total of three points. Individual scores are as follows:
    123lb. weight class- 3rd place, Edna, Lamar Turner, squat 315, bench press 165, dead lift 365, total 845.
    132lb. weight class- 2nd place, Industrial, Trenton Thedford, squat 360, bench press 220, dead lift 355, total 935; 3rd place, Edna, David Nunez, squat 255, bench press 190, dead lift 360, total 905; 6th place, Industrial, Kayden Kurtz, squat 315, bench press 165, dead lift 355, total 835.
    148lb. weight class- 3rd place, Ganado, Chris Garza, squat 375, bench press 260, dead lift 365, total 1000; 4th place, Industrial, Daniel Santillan, squat 360, bench press 205, dead lift 395, total 960.

Industrial FFA wins with Grand Champion tractor

Industrial FFA won Grand Champion in the Ag Mechanics contest at the Victoria Livestock Show for their renovated 1946 Farmall B tractor, donated by Inez’s Pat Mercer. From left, Levi Perry and Aaron DeLosSantos are the two students that ended up putting in the most time with the restoration and stand next to their work. An article will be in next week’s paper about the win.

‘Girls win again

    The Edna Cowgirls traveled to Aransas Pass for their first District game and defeated the Lady Panthers 5-1. Madison Kucera pitched a complete game striking out 9. In the victory Kucera also hit a two-run homerun in the sixth inning for two RBIs.
