Industrial Cross-Country Results

    Industrial High School hosted a cross-country meet at the Brackenridge Park in Edna. All three county high schools competed, and the results are as follows. The girls ran two miles, and the boys ran three.

Cowgirls dominate their week away from home

    The Edna Cowgirls played Tidehaven on Oct. 7 and dominated in three games, 25-10, 25-12, and 25-8.
    Ashley Myers had three kills and a dig, while Haleigh Evans had 11 kills, four aces, a block, six digs and 17 assists. Kadi Elledge gave three kills and two blocks, plus Megan Callaway’s five kills, a block and two digs. Kim Ortolon gave two kills and seven digs, while Crystal Coulter added two kills and two blocks. Sierra Pruitt gave seven kills, an ace, a block and 10 digs, while Taylor Frenzel gave an ace and a dig. Haley Mitchell had two aces and seven digs, Kamryn Roman gave an ace and nine digs, and Bailey Brown gave an ace, four digs and an assist.
    The Cowgirls also played Hitchcock on Oct. 10 and won in three games, 25-5, 25-6, and 25-9.

Maidens get Shorthorned

    The Ganado Maidens played the Schulenburg Shorthorns on Oct. 7 and lost in three games, 14-25, 11-25, and 10-25.
    Taylor Mirelez said the team has become more competitive in the past games, and commented that since Schulenburg is first in the district, they’re hard to beat. “We’ll be ready to dominate the next time we play,” she said with a smile.
    Taylor Mirelez gave nine kills, three digs and 44 attacks, while Sarah Novak had an attack and three assists. Kylie Hicks had an attack, plus Cheyenne Galindo’s kill, block and 10 attacks. Lizzie Callis gave an attack, while Valeria Garcia attacked four kills, 14 attacks and a block. Hannah Janssen gave an attack and three digs, plus Haley Carter’s attack. Kendall Alvarez had an attack and Alexis Mojica gave a kill, three attacks and 12 assists.
    The Maidens also played Flatonia on Oct. 10 and lost in three to one games, 25-17, 20-25, 9-25, and 17-25. Statistics were unavailable at press time.

Industrial Cobras work hard in district play

    The Industrial Cobras played Hallettsville on Oct. 7 and lost in three to one games, 27-29, 25-22, 8-25, 22-25.
    Head Coach Donna Ragsdale said the girls’ effort was there that night. “We just have to work on being consistent, there are things we need to fix and come out ready to play for the next game.”
    Cassidy High had four digs and 16 assists, while Kayla Weixelman attacked an ace, a dig, 13 kills and four blocks. Jessica Martin gave two aces, 13 digs, four kills and a block, plus Lauren Brogger’s 13 digs, an assist and seven kills. Taylor McCloud had three kills, and Katie Sparkman gave four digs and 14 assists. Skylar Chreene attacked two aces, 13 digs, an assist and two kills. Landry Mikulec added a dig and two kills, Brendalyn Fojtik gave three digs and two kills, and Kelsey Van Pelt had two digs and five kills.

Cobras fish out a good game

    The Industrial Cobras lost their first district game against the Palacios Sharks on Friday night with a score of 30-28.
    Head Coach Jeff Rogers said the team played hard and did everything the coaches asked of them. “This was one of those games that we got all the bad breaks and they got all the good breaks,” he said. “I couldn’t be more proud of the effort and fight that my team played with. We are getting better every week and our kids are playing with Cobra pride.”

Indians rein in the Dogs

    The Indians held their first district win of the season Friday night against the Flatonia Bulldogs with a score of 28-14.
    Coach Rick Ragsdale said the Indians used their bye week to work on the areas that needed improvement. “I think we did a great job executing our offense,” said Ragsdale. “We really worked on doing what we do best, because that’s what you’ve got to do this time of year. Every week in our district is a battle, and you’ve got to fight every battle to win the war.”
    At the beginning of the game the ball was tossed back and forth between the two teams until the Indians missed a snap that was scooped up by the Bulldogs only eight yards from the end zone. Only two plays later, the Bulldogs scored the first touchdown of the game with a good field goal, bringing the scoreboard to 7-0.

Cowboys lasso a victory

    The Edna Cowboys traveled to Hitchcock to start district play against the Bulldogs on Friday, Oct. 10, and was victorious with a final score of 36-22.
    Cowboys senior receiver, #10 Holton Newbern said it was a great, fantastic win. “We've been working hard and everyone came together, everybody stepped up that needed to step up,” he said.
    Hitchcock won the coin toss and elected to receive the opening kick-off. Cowboy defense set the tone early and forced Hitchcock to punt on their first possession of the game.
    The Cowboy offense came out strong on their first possession when running back, #4 Deontae Jones ran in for a touchdown with 7:46 left in the first quarter. #60 Aaron Padilla added an extra point which made the score 7-0 in favor of Edna.

Ganado junior high volleyball working hard

    The Ganado Junior High volleyball teams have been working hard this season, with records and comments from coaches.
    The 7B has a record of 3-2, participated in the Ganado B Team Tournament, and finished with a record of 1-1. The 8B team has a record of 2-2, participated in the Ganado B Team Tournament, and finished with a record of 1-1.
    Coach Chelsea Johnson said both B teams are doing really well this year, and she’s seen lots of improvement with the girls. “They continue to get better and do their best every day,” she said. “The way we are playing has improved tremendously since the first few days and I could not be happier to coach these girls, I am looking forward to the next game in Weimar and excited to see how the rest of the season goes.”
    The 7A team has a record of 4-2, participated in the Ganado A Team Tournament, and finished with a record of 2-1.
