Indians put forth valiant effort

The Ganado Indians weathered a narrow loss against the Van Vleck Leopards on Friday, Sept. 26, with a final score of 34-24.
Overall, Ganado was fairly content with the way they played. Offensive coordinator Rick Ragsdale said the Indians gave a tremendous effort. “We struggled to execute offensively and that cost us,” he said, “but our kids played hard.”
The Indians won the toss and opted to receive. Sophomore Christian Palacios received the ball on the kickoff, and brought the ball to the 20-yard line. The Indians worked their way up the field and in due time, senior quarterback Johnathan Martinez scored the first touchdown of the night on the quarterback keep. The extra-point attempt by Martinez was successful.

Cobras go through another loss

The Industrial Cobras lost 41-0 against the Van Vleck Leopards in their Homecoming game on Sept. 19.
Athletic Director and Head Coach Jeff Rogers said they have a plan, and it will work. “Our kids are playing hard and believe in what we’re doing.”
Turnovers in the first quarter proved costly with Van Vleck taking the lead 7-0 in the first quarter. The Leopards scored three more touchdowns in the second quarter ending the first half of play 28-0, in favor of Van Vleck.
The Leopards scored early in the third quarter but the Cobra defense held off the Leopards the remaining eight minutes of the third quarter.     The Cobras pulled a big defensive stop on a fourth down by #61 Sean Bastian with two minutes left in the third quarter. It gave the Cobras a sign of hope, but that was soon lost.

Ganado scores on Tigers

The Indians suffered a 41-12 loss from the Goliad Tigers at their homecoming game on Friday. “I think their size and athleticism were just a little bit more than ours,” said Coach Drew Bridges. “They had several more people than us, and we had to use the same boys throughout the whole game. I think that really wore us down.”
The game began and the Indians kicked off to the Tigers, but a few plays later a fumble was scooped up by Junior Jacob Foltyn. Several plays later a pass was intercepted by Goliad, but the runner was taken down after only a few yards by Senior Austin Alford. After a sack by Sophomore Christian Palacios caused the Tigers to fumble, the ball was returned to the Indians when Sophomore Malcolm Chaisson leapt on top of it. Despite much effort the Indians could not complete several passes and were forced to punt the ball.
