Indians take last-minute loss against Cougars

by Ashlyn Sterling
The Indians took a last-minute 25-21 loss to the Brazos Cougars on Sept. 5. Junior Dalton Service decided to use the loss as a way to learn what the team needed to fix. “We had a lot of turnovers and a lot of mess-ups,” said Service, “but as long as we don’t take this loss as a downer but as a lesson I think we’ll definitely come out a better team next week.”
Two plays into the game senior Kameron Smith made a long run for the end zone, and there was no holding him back. Smith made the first touchdown of the game, and senior Arturo Almeda made the first after point attempt moving the score to 7-0.

Indians fight hard against Raiders

The Ganado Indians season opener was a 28-19 loss from the Rice Raiders that did not come until the end in Raider territory. The new Athletic director for the Indians, Jim Bird, commented, “We played good, hard, physical football, and we did a good job against a great offensive team. It’s early, and we have a lot of new kids to the varsity level. I can promise you that we will continue to play better every week until district. I am very proud of the kids that played their guts out tonight.”
The first quarter was a tough defensive battle. The Raiders won the toss to receive, but shortly into the game the Indians had taken over on downs. This was later followed by a quick three-and-out that landed the Raiders with the ball. After yet another turnover on downs by the Raiders the Indians decided to make something happen.
