Cobras win out against Maidens

    The Industrial Cobras played and won against the Ganado Maidens in three games on Sept. 12, with scores of 25-16, 25-15, and 25-16.
    Taylor Mirelez had 29 attacks, 14 kills, and two digs, plus Valeria Garcia’s eight attacks, and a kill. Hannah Janssen had an attack and three digs, while Cheyenne Galindo had four attacks, and a kill. Sarah Novak added an attack, Kendall Alvarez had five attacks and a dig, and Alexia Mojica had two attacks, a kill, a dig and 16 assists. Kylie Hicks had five attacks, and Haley Carter added a dig.
    Industrial volleyball statistics were unavailable at press time.
    The Maidens will have played Flatonia at home in their first district game on Tuesday, Sept. 16, and will play Waelder on Friday, Sept 19, at home as well.
    The Industrial Cobras will have played Hallettsville, there, on Tuesday, Sept. 16, and will play again on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Rice Consolidated.

Tuesday, Sept. 16 volleyball scores!

District games have begun.
Ganado won against Flatonia, three to one. 25-22 Flatonia, 26-24 Ganado, 25-18 Ganado, and 25-22 Ganado.
Edna won against Tidehaven in three straight games, 25-7, 25-9, and 25-10.
Industrial lost to Hallettsville in three to two games. 25-20 Industrial, 25-18 Hallettsville, 25-21 Industrial, 25-22 Hallettsville, and 15-12 Hallettsville.

Edna Junior High Volleyball

The Edna Junior High Rustlers played volleyball with palacios on Sept. 8.
7b - lost 19-35, won 25-22
8b - won 25-22, 25-10
7a - won 25-13, 20-25, 25-20
8a - lost 20-25, 18-25

The A team competed in a tournament on Sept. 11 and 13.
7a - beat Cade 25-22, 25-21
       Lost to Howell, 13-25, 19-25
       Beat Industrial 26-24, 25-16 for 3rd place
8a - lost to case 15-25, 18-25
        Lost consolation match vs Patti Welder 25-17, 12-25, 9-15

Coach Jill Koop said the girls are all improving individually, and as a team!  "We have confidence that they will continue to grow as we spend more hours in the gym," she said.

Indians triumph over Cobras in heavy win

    The Ganado Indians pulled in a 43-12 win on their home turf Friday night against the Industrial Cobras. “We strived to have these guys to come together as a family this week,” said Coach Richard Gannels. “We really pushed them to do everything on the field for the family no matter the odds or the adversities that they could come to.”
    Cobra Athletic Director and Offensive Coordinator Jeff Rogers said he takes full responsibility for their 0-3 start and will be vastly improved for this coming week. “The team is struggling because I have not done a good job at preparing them to be successful,” he said. “I have made some changes with practice, preparation, personnel, and coaching assignments.”

Edna gets a Homecoming win in after rough start

    The Edna Cowboys earned a win on Homecoming night, Sept. 12, against the Van Vleck Leopards with a final, close score of 38-31, determined in the last minutes of the game. Coaches, fans, and students alike jumped and cheered as senior Marquis Broussard made the last touchdown of the night for his team.
    Athletic Director and Offensive Coordinator Huey Chancellor said winning isn’t easy when you get into a rut and it takes care of a lot of things. “Everybody gave good effort and I think defensively we’ve improved and corrected some things,” he said. “DeOntae Jones made good run and Landon O’Connor passed well that night.”
    Senior #10 Holton Newbern said the Homecoming game was the first the ‘Boys played where they didn’t have a setback. “We played together as one, and made plays when the opportunity struck. This week we’ll really work hard on still playing together as a unit, but staying focused for the entire game.”

Maidens demolish Faith Academy

Ganado’s Maidens played Faith Academy on Sept. 2 and won in three games, 25-9, 25-6, and 25-5.
    Junior Hannah Janssen said the team was elated and confident from the win. “We didn’t make many errors, and although it wasn’t a level of playing that we will play in district, we learned how to pick ourselves back up when we did make an error, and get ready for district.
    Taylor Mirelez had 16 kills, and three aces, while Valeria Garcia added seven kills, and Kylie Hicks had three kills, and an ace. Sarah Novak had an ace, a kill, and two assists, Hannah Janssen had two digs, and Haley Carter had a kill. Kendall Alvarez had a kill, plus Alexis Mojica added an ace, a kill, and 23 assists to her numbers.

Cowgirls are putting in hours

    Edna’s Cowgirls hosted a Cowgirl Classic tournament on Aug. 28 and 30, and played El Campo, Aransas Pass, London, Brazosport, and Yoakum. On Aug. 28 the ‘Girls lost to London in two games, 15-11 and 15-13, won against Aransas Pass in two games, 15-7 and 15-12, and won against Bloomington in two games, 15-6, and 15-10. They also played Jones and won in two games, 15-10 and 15-11.
    On Aug. 30, the Cowgirls lost to London again, 25-23 Edna, 25-23 London, and 25-15 London. They also played Brazosport and won, 25-23 Brazosport, 25-12 Edna, 25-17 Edna. The ‘Girls also played Yoakum and lost in two games, 25-23 and 25-22.

Cobras play their roles

    Industrial’s Cobras played Yoakum on Sept 2. and lost, three games to two. Final scores were 25-14 Yoakum, 25-19 Industrial, 25-20 Industrial, 25-18 Yoakum, 15-9 Yoakum.
    “I’ve made some changes and the girls have stepped up and taken on some new roles,” Head Coach Donna Ragsdale said. “Team is a really big word for us, we are a family and the girls are playing good together. We are right where we need to be to start district play in two weeks.”
    The Cobras also participated in a Goliad tournament from Aug. 28-30. They played Beeville and won in three games, 25-4, 25-11, and 25-8, and played St. Joseph and lost in two games, 25-15 and 25-20. They played against St. Joseph again on Aug. 30 and lost in two games, 25-16 and 25-17.

Cowboys fall to Panther plays

    The Edna Cowboys traveled to Aransas Pass to take on the Panthers and suffered their second loss of the season with a final score of 36-20.
    Edna won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. Both the Cowboys and Panthers defense came out strong and locked down each others offense the entire first quarter of the game. At the end of the first the score remained 0-0.
    Aransas Pass took complete control of the second quarter.  The Panthers ran in for the first score of the game with 8:50 left in the first half. After a good extra point the score was Aransas Pass 7, Edna 0.  The Panthers found the endzone once more with 14 seconds left in the half. After a two-point conversion, the halftime score was Aransas Pass 15, Edna 0.
