Nicholas Roth

Nicholas "Nick" Friedrick Roth of Houston, passed away on Aug. 27, 2015 at the age of 34. Nick was born on May 12, 1981 in Houston to Ernst and Donna Roth of Edna.
He was a graduate of Lamar High School and the University of Houston. He served in the United States Navy. He married Daniela Simic on Aug. 19, 2015.
He is survived by his parents; wife; brother Harry Roth and wife Julie; sister Anna Tompkins and husband Rob; and numerous family members.
A memorial service was held at Underbelly Restaurant in Houston on Aug. 30. 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Nick’s wife, Daneile and son-to-arrive son due in January at www.gofundme.com/NickRoth.

Gentry Roeder

Gentry Roeder, 34, of Edna, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, Aug. 29, at 6 p.m. at Shultz Funeral Home in Jasper. The family will greet friends on Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
A native of Jasper, he is survived by his wife Terri L. Roeder of Edna; son Gentry Roeder Jr. of Edna; daughter Katielyn Roeder, of Edna; and a sister Janette Delossantos of Point Comfort.

Don Skalicky

Don Skalicky, 67, passed away Thursday, Aug. 20. He was born on Jan. 24, 1948, in El Campo to the late Frank and Vavie Michaelson Skalicky.
Don was retired from farming and once owned the "Fish Hole" in Ganado.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Calaway Skalicky, daughter, Brandi Ritz and husband Blake; son, Ty Skalicky; and two grandchildren, Kennedy and Conner Ritz.
Don is preceded in death by his parents.
Family will have their celebration of life services at a later date. 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. James Lutheran Church of Ganado.
Services are under the direction of Ganado Funeral Home, 800 S. Third St., 361-771-2120.

Carolina Cortes

Carolina Tristan Cortes, 62, passed away Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, with her loving family by her side. 
  She was born on Jan. 3, 1953, in Ganado to the late Primitivo, Sr. and Maria Castro Tristan. Carolina was a retired seamstress for the New ICM Company in El Campo after 37 years of service. She was a loving wife, mother,  grandmother, and aunt, she will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include her husband Jose Cortes; daughters Jennifer Tristan, Sarah (Manuel)Gonzales, Maria Cortes; and son Christopher  (Erica) Tristan; sisters Mary Tristan, Georgia Rymers, and Laura Mendez; and brothers Martin, Carlos and Isidor Tristan. 
She was preceded in death are her parents, sisters, Virginia Vasquez, Beatrice Bustamante, and brothers, Diognicio, Pete, Primitivo, Jr. and Raymond Tristan.

James Shepherd

James Dare Shepherd, 83, of Rockport, passed away Aug. 9, 2015. He was born Nov. 8, 1931 in Littlefield, to Durward Oswell Shepherd and Mattie Coilla Mason Shepherd. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church. He proudly served in the US Air Force during Korean Conflict and Vietnam and retired as Lt. Col. after 25 years of service. 
He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Dan Randall Shepherd. 
He is survived by his wife, Honey Shepherd; daughters, Pat Shepherd Best (Joe Cantu) of Rockport, Ana Shepherd Mangione of Sugar Land; sister, Sylvia Harris (Ernest) of Montgomery; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 21, from 5 p.m.- 9 p.m. at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, Rockport. Funeral service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22 at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Bischoff Cemetery in Inez.

Katherine Waitschies

Katherine Walleck Johnston Waitschies passed away on Aug. 13, 2015 in Katy. She was born in Ganado on June 23,1933 to the late Joe and Helen Scheel Walleck. 
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Johnston Wyman and son -in-law, David Wyman of Katy, and son, Glen Johnston of Ganado, a brother and sister-in-law Joe and Shirley Walleck of Edna. Katherine has three grandchildren Tommy Johnston of Louise, Jason Belasquez of Katy, and Lindsey Johnston McMahan of El Campo and five great-grandchildren. 
She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Waitshcies and her parents, Joe and Helen Walleck.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m. at the Ganado Funeral Home Chapel. Katherine requested to be cremated and in lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make a donation to Vantage Hospice 21720 Kingsland Suite 301, Katy, Texas, 77450, in her memory.

Jacinto DeLeon

Jacinto P. “Chico” DeLeon, of Edna, passed away Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at the age of 80. He was born July 3, 1935, in Vanderbilt, to the late Isabel DeLeon and Maria Partida DeLeon.
Chico worked as a truck driver for Texas Trading Company for many years, He retired from Case International after several years. Chico was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be missed dearly.

Julie McFeron Abraham

Julie Deann McFeron Abraham died in Corpus Christi on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015 at the age of 49. She was born on June 2, 1966 in Ganado to Ronnie and Patricia McFeron of Edna.
She attended the Industrial Schools in Vanderbilt, graduating in May 1984. She graduated from Victoria Junior College and attended the University of Houston at Victoria. Julie graduated from Texas A&I University at Kingsville in December, 1989 with a BA in elementary education, specializing in reading and early childhood development.

Fannie Welch

Fannie M. Slone Welch, 88, passed away August 10, 2015 in Brownfield. She was born March 2, 1927 in Gulf, Texas to Frank E. Weaver and Georgia Mullins Weaver.  
She attended school in Gulf, Matagorda, Bay City and Blessing. She was a graduate of Massey Business College in Houston.  Fannie Merle married Theodore (Ted) Wilson Slone July 6, 1944 at the Baptist Encampment in Palacios. They lived in Collegeport and Seadrift the in 1952 made their home in Edna where they lived until Ted’s death in 1985.  
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Edna, helping with many activities. She belonged to several clubs in Edna. She helped organize The Garden Club and was a Charter Member of the Cordie Whitfield Study Club which was organized in 1956 and continued to be a member until she moved in 1987. She was also a member of the Edna Art Guild and was proud that artist Dalhart Windberg was their instructor.

Barbara Williams

Barbara Williams, 65, of Houston, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2015. She was born in Ganado on March 21, 1950 to Dan and Alberta Clay Williams.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 6 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Corinth Baptist Church in Fresno with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Adams Branch Cemetery in Hallettsville.
