Leander Brod

Leander “Andy” Brod, of Edna, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the age of 91. He was born in East Bernard, on Feb. 28, 1924, to the late Leander Frank and Mary Lucy Davis Brod.
Andy served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years. He was also a member of the VFW Post 8556 in Lolita and the American Legion Post 346 in Ganado. Andy worked as a heavy equipment operator for Local Union 450 for several years. 
Andy is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Virginia Bland Brod of Edna; daughters, Rose Marie Robin and her husband Chris of Houston, Janet Ready and fiancé Vance Ready of Galveston, Sharon Ambrosia of California; sons, Bubba Bland and his wife Shirley of Edna and Joe Bland and his wife Marsha of Victoria; brother, John Brod of Boling; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Alfred Janssen

Alfred H. Janssen, 91, passed away Wed. May 20, 2015. Alfred was born Dec.19, 1923 in Yoakum to the late Henry and Augusta Gerjes Janssen. Alfred opened J&J Leasing in 1963 and also loved to do his ranching. He was instrumental in starting the Ganado Little League baseball and the Boy Scouts. Alfred also enjoyed being an usher at the Assumption Catholic Church.
Alfred is survived by his sons; Elgin R.( Cecile), Billy F.( Raunda), and Timothy P. Janssen, and sisters; Edna Stanford, Evelyn Stojanik and Velma Howard. 
Alfred also leaves behind brothers; Walter and Ernest Janssen. Alfred also leaves his seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  
  He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn Faye Janssen, and daughters, Connie Susan Janssen and Donna Faye Janssen.

Lydia Garcia

Lydia P. Garcia of Beeville passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Woodridge Nursing & Rehab at the age of 87. Lydia was born in Mercedes on May 10, 1928 to Francisco and Maria (Ybarra) Puentes.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; Jose Garcia; sons, David Garcia, Ramiro Garcia and Jesus Garcia; daughters, Gloria Tijerina, Diana Gonzales, and Manuela Barrientes; and granddaughter; Sandra Ann Hernandez.
Survivors include sons, Jose B. (Anita) Garcia of Tynan, Obelio (Dee Dee) Garcia of Lolita, and Juan Garcia of Tynan; daughters, Maria (Julian) Barrera of Mathis, Evangelina (Daniel) Rodriguez of Pleasanton, Angelita (Epi Garcia Sr.) Hernandez, and Olga (Donny) Hernandez of Beeville; brothers, Tomas Puentes and Juan Puentes; sister, Rosa Borjas, 30 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and a host of other relatives and friends.

David Maraggia

David N. Maraggia, 78 of Inez passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015. He was born on March 13, 1937 in Victoria to the late Nat and Lucille Franz Maraggia. David was a lifelong farmer and rancher in Victoria County and also a retired tool pusher for 30 years in the oilfield.  He served his country in the National Guard, being called to duty during the Berlin Crisis. 
Survivors include his wife, Sue Miller Maraggia; sons, Michael Maraggia of Inez, Mark Maraggia of Inez; sister, Mary “Betty” Yendry of Inez, Margie McMullen of Seguin; brothers, Mickey Maraggia of Inez; and grandchildren, Nathan, Brandon, William and Mason Maraggia.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Maraggia.

Joseph “Joe” Edward Darilek, of Edna, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the age of 75. He was born in Moulton on March 19, 1940, to the late Edward and Josephine Simper Darilek.

Gregorio "Jerry" Salinas

Gregorio “Jerry” Salinas, 76, died Monday, May 4, 2015 in Leander. He was born May 9, 1938 in Ganado to Jose and Louisa Salinas.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was an equipment technician at Solectron and Texas Instruments since 1975. He was a Catholic.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Salinas; children, Jon Salinas and Teresa Salinas; brothers Tony Salinas and Martin Salinas; sisters Mickie Hernandez and Janie Salinas; grandchildren, Nicole Salinas and Jon Tristan Salinas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Genaro Salinas, Steve Salinas, Sandy Salinas, and Cruz Salinas.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 16 at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Ganado with the Rev. Michael Lyons officiating.

Ryan Koop

Ryan Anson Koop, 32, of Edna passed away April 25, 2015. He was born June 12, 1982 in Victoria to Larry and Connie Koop.
    He is survived by his parents; brother, Clayton (Monica) Koop; grandmother, Dorothy Koop and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ewald Koop and Gene and Mattie "Boots" Miller; cousins, Riley Teal and Stephanie Lambert; good friend, Susan Budd; and his beloved dog, Scruffy.
    Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Edna. Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Kaiser officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens of Edna.
    Pallbearers are Lee Hasdorff, Russell Vanecek, Dustin Smith, Cory Jacobs, Stacy Teal, Mike Smith, Chad Kinsfather and John  Ross Jacobs.

Julia Garza Gonzales

    Julia Garza Gonzales, of Edna, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at the age of 82. She was born June 30, 1932, in Edna, to the late Hilario and Dolores Garza.
    Julia had many occupations in her life, such as being a waitress, mattress and purse maker, manager of housekeeping at Care Inn of Edna and a cook for the Senior Citizen Center. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. Julia was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be missed dearly. 
S    he is survived by her daughters, Mary Ester Alvarado and her husband Javier of Edna and Lupe Zarate and her husband Johnny Carrillo of Edna; grandsons, Domingo Zarate and Joe Louis Davila, Jr.; granddaughters, Lupe Ann Arriaga, Matilda Corarrubias, Marsha Z. Salas, Dolores Arriaga, Yolanda Davila Rodriguez and Debbie Davila-Gomez; 25 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and many loving family members and friends.

Fred De los Santos Sr.

    Frank De Los Santos Sr., 83, of Wharton, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2015, in a Sugar Land hospital following a long illness. He was born on Jan. 19, 1932, in Bay City, the son of the late Cruz and Elvita Cadriel De Los Santos.
  Prior to his retirement in 2013, he worked as an insulator and fire proofer in the construction industry. He was 81 when he finally decided to retire. He enjoyed many things, but he always wished he could spend more time with his woodworking.

Larry Perez

    Larry Perez, 54 of Ganado passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. Larry was born May 5, 1960 in Louise to the late Jim Perez, Sr. and Pauline Rosalez Perez.
    Larry was currently employed by Ganado ISD in the maintenance department. In his spare time he loved to spend time with his family, play dominos, watch western movies, and make people laugh.
    Larry is survived by his wife of 10 years, Theresa Leona Allen Perez; his sons, Anthony (Heather), Joseph (Jessica) of Ganado, daughters, Jessica (Rodney) Brown, and Melissa Lenhart; brother, James (Julie) Perez of Ganado; sister, Mary Jane (Scott) New of Brazoria; also step-children, seven grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
    Larry is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Jim, Robert, Jodi, Tommy and Gilbert.
    Pallbearers were Joe Cuellar, Matthew Rosalez, Albert Perez, George Perez, Phillip Perez, and Rodney Roberson,
