Ruby Espinoza

Ruby Garza Espinoza, of Edna, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015 at the age of 62. She was born Feb. 5, 1953, in Ganado to the late Domingo and Maria Cruz Garza.
Ruby worked as a homemaker for many years. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. Ruby was a loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt and friend who will be missed dearly.

Willie Rowell

Willie Dan Rowell, 79, of Victoria passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2015.  He was born Aug. 30, 1936 in Edna to the late Manus Burns and Mattie Givens Rowell. He received his degree from Texas A&I University and retired from DuPont after more than 30 years of service. Willie was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Bernice Jackson

Bernice Jackson, 86, of Silsbee, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.
She was a retired school teacher with 41 years service. She taught at Edna ISD and Yoakum ISD and after retirement she was a substitute teacher with Silsbee ISD. She was active in her church. 
Survivors include her daughters, Jacqueline V. Golson and L’Tanya Price, both of Houston; two granddaughters and one great-grandson.
The funeral service was at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 4, at St. Beulah Baptist Church in Silsbee with burial in Kirby Cemetery in Silsbee.
Arrangements are under the direction of J.B. Coleman Memorial Mortuary, Silsbee.

Joe John Kusak

Joe John Kusak, of La Salle, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015 at the age of 76. He was born on Nov. 9, 1938, in La Salle, to Emilie Kusak and the late Joe Frank Kusak.  
Joe worked as a farmer and rancher his entire life. He touched the lives of many people with his smile, generosity, and his willingness to help others. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be truly missed.

Fern Deans

Fern Louise Powell Deans, 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, the 29th of October surrounded by family after a courageous and hard fought battle against heart, brain, and pulmonary issues over the last three years and especially the last six months until the Lord called her to her Eternal Home in Heaven. 
Fern was born on the 3rd of June in 1941 in Bay City, to Marianne Lorenzen Powell and Samuel L. Powell and grew up on her namesake grandmother Fern Lorenzen’s family ranch outside Edna. She went to Vanderbilt Elementary School and high school in Edna as a proud Cowgirl and played clarinet in the band, along with many other school activities. 
Fern was preceded in death by her grandparents, Fern and Andrew Lorenzen; her parents Sam and Marianne Powell; several great aunts, aunts and uncles; and cousins.

Manuel Garcia Jr.

Manuel H. Garcia, Jr., 37, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2105. Manuel was born on July 3, 1978 in Phoenix, Ariz. to Manuel H. Garcia, Sr., and Lydia Hernandez Garcia.
Manuel was a very special young man, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Manuel was survived by his father Manuel H. Garcia, Sr., and his mother Lydia Galvan; son Joseph Patrick Garcia; sisters Laura Michelle Garcia and Haley Alexis Garcia; brothers Michael Scott Garcia and Mason Cole Garcia; as well as two grandchildren.
Manuel was preceded in death by his grandparents Alejandro Hernandez and Paula Ortiz; aunt Mary Ann Hernandez Balboa and uncle; Locadio Luera.
Visitation was Friday, Nov. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be Saturday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Lyons officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery.

Tanis Gonzales

Tanis Gonzales, 65, passed away on Oct. 25, 2015. Tanis was a grounds keeper for St. Agnes Catholic Church for many years.
He was drafted when he was 18 and served in the U.S.Army during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his mother, Antonia Martinez, his daughter Norma Gonzales, four grandchildren, sister-in-law Tina Martinez, niece Marisa and husband Jose Gonzales, as well as nephews Ethan and Tyler Gonzales.
Tanis is preceded in death by his brother Joe Martinez and his grandparents Cruz and Paula Gonzales.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Services have been entrusted to Russell Todish of Slavik Funeral Home, 361-782-2152.

Judith Gerald

Judith Ann Gerald, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, passed away on Oct. 14, 2015, following a heroic battle with cancer. She was born in Maryville, Tenn. on Oct. 12, 1950 and grew up on the banks of the Ohio River in Coraopolis, Pa. In her mid- teens Judy and her family moved to the suburbs of Chicago, Ill. where she attended and graduated from high school. Soon thereafter she headed west, ending up in Albuquerque, N.M. and never left. 
Judy knew life intimately because she loved many things – gardening, dancing, cooking Thanksgiving dinner each year for extended family and her many friends, working out at the gym, traveling the world with her beloved husband, yard work, volunteering, cheering on the New Mexico Lobos and spending time at the Conchas lake house. Her greatest joy, however, was her granddaughter Kiera.

Mary Jane Chytka

Mary Jane Chytka, 79, of Ganado, passed away Oct. 24,2015. She was born on Aug. 7, 1936 to the late Howard and Albina Kucera Wigginton.
Mary Jane was a loving mother and grandmother. There was nothing more important than spending time with the ones she loved.
She is survived by her daughters, Jeri (Robert W.) Rozner and Joni ( Doug) Newell; sons Jack Chytka, and Jeff (Linda) Chytka; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 50 years, Jerome C. Chytka, and two infant sisters.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 6 p.m. at the Ganado Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Lyons officiating. Interment will follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Ganado.

Arnold Johnson

Arnold T. Johnson, 96, passed away peacefully at his home,  Friday Oct. 23, 2015. Born Jan. 14, 1919 in Wharton to the late
Otto and Ellen Ruth Swenson Johnson at the family home place south of El Campo, Arnold attended Plainview Community School with his siblings and graduated from El Campo High School with the Class of 1936. 
1942, Arnold enlisted in the Army Air Corp and served 4 years and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1948, Arnold married Norma Caroline Galow. They were married for 53 years, making their home north of Ganado. They built their lives around the area where they ranched and farmed.
