Lucille M. Lee

    Lucille M. Lee, of Columbus, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the age of 100. She was born June 14, 1914, in Victoria, Texas, to the late Eugene Green and Annie Catherine Terry Green.  
    Lucille was a housewife. She touched the lives of many, enjoyed life and travels.
    She is survived by her son, J.V. Hamman and his wife Patsy Price Hamman of Columbus; sister, Lillie Mae Pearce of Rockport; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; fifteen great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
    She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, Irene Green Whitworth, Mildred Henderson, Gene Green, Opal Alford and William “Billy” Green.

James Oliver Killebrew

James Oliver Killebrew, of Edna, passed away Monday, June 8, 2015 at the age of 71. He was born Nov. 25, 1943, in Wharton, to the late Earl Albert Killebrew and Alyne Fellers Killebrew.  
James worked as a AT&T Technician for 35 years. He touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be truly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Lanelle Hodges Killebrew; daughter, Sheila Kaye Ordaz and her husband Richard of Katy; sons, David Wayne Killebrew of Houston, James Robert Killebrew and his wife Melissa of Plano and William Earl Killebrew of Katy; sisters, Patsy Ruth Schedler of Houston and Georgia Faye Killebrew Smith of Houston; grandchildren, Nathan Ordaz and Alexander James Killebrew and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Earline Annette Goynes.

George F. Simons

On May 29, 2015, the patriarch of our family, George S. Simons of Houston entered Heaven’s gates after a courageous battle with lung disease. George enjoyed spending time with his family and was an ardent supporter of his grandchildren. He was very social and loved talking to and spending time with people. He maintained many strong friendships over the years and was a loyal family man and friend who will be greatly missed.

Dorothy Conner

Dorothy Mae Cihal Conner, 89, of Ganado passed away May 27, 2015, she was born November 26, 1925 in El Campo to the late Emil and Edna Bodugen Cihal. Dorothy married Don Conner on October 1, 1946 in Falls Church, Virginia. After retiring from Ganado Medical Clinic, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren who were the joy of her life.
Dorothy is survived by daughter Linda Elliott and husband Jim of El Campo; daughter-in-law, Clara Conner of Ganado; sister Doris George Fowler and brother Willard Cihal of Ganado; Grandchildren Chris and Heidi Elliott and Summer and Craig Dorotik of El Campo; Garrett and Vicki Conner of Cypress;  Brooke Conner of Katy; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Grant Conner, Jack, James and Lane Dorotik and Conner Elliott.
Mrs. Conner was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her son Larry Conner, her brother Ervin Cihal, and sisters Lillian Jones and Wilma Willoughby.

Evelyn Turanyik

Evelyn Louise Baca Turanyik, 91, of El Campo passed away on May 28.  She was born Dec. 25, 1923 in Cameron, to the late Frank and Clara Horelica Baca. Evelyn was a homemaker; kind hearted and lovingly supportive of her family, a woman of strong faith and unconditional love.
Evelyn is survived by her sister Viola Baca Srubar of El Campo; daughters, Jeanette Tegeler of Louise and Kathy Fowler and husband Jimmy of Ganado; sons, David Muzik and wife Carol of Ganado and Cyril Muzik and wife Berry of Louise. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jay Tegeler, Tammie Riojas, Sherrie Tegeler, Mike and Brandon Muzik, J.C. and Lisa Fowler, and also 10 great-grandchildren.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her husbands, Cyril Anton Muzik, Johnny Machacek, and Willie Turanyik.
The family will have visitation, Sunday, May 31 at Ganado Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. with Rosary being recited at 7 p.m.

Leverette Gerdes

Leverette Lanette Gerdes, of Edna passed away Monday, May 25, 2015, at the age of 81. She was born July 15, 1933, in Fallon, Texas, to the late Raymond Jefferson Derrick and Martha Alley Hammont.
Leverette co-owned Carpet Care and Air Duct Cleaning with her husband, Tony. She was president of the Pilots Club, and an active member of The American Legion Organization, The Texana Red Hat Dolls and The First Baptist Church of Edna. She loved to can fruits, vegetables, jellies and jams. She enjoyed gardening and needlework. Leverette was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Opal Gooden

Opal Lee Gooden, 90 passed away Friday May 22, 2015. She was born Feb. 19, 1925 in Hidalgo, to the late Charlie S. and Bessie Lee Newman. Opal was a business owner and grandma.
  She is survived by her daughters, Geraldine "Jerry" and husband Bill Browning and Vera "Sissy" and husband Fred Tarver;  sons, Gene Wayne Fisher and Charles T. Fisher and wife Roberta; a brother, Charlie Dean Newman and wife Nelda; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
  Visitation was Sunday, May 24,from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel. Services were Monday, May 25, at 10 a.m. at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel in Edna with Mr. Gary Thedford officiating. Interment was in the Red Bluff Cemetery.

Jenieve Hubenak

Jenieve Joyce Hubenak, 69, of Brazoria passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at West Houston Medical Center in Houston, Texas. She was born June 18, 1945 in La Salle, to Charlie Tater and Annie Dusek Tater. 
She was a member of Grace Bible Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren dearly. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and friends. She loved traveling and working in her garden. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcell William Hubenak, parents, and brothers, Marvin Tater, Wayne Tater and Jerome Tater.

Marvin Hubenak

Marvin Hubenak, 69, of Ganado, passed away Sunday May 17, 2015. Marvin was born Nov. 10, 1945 in El Campo to the late Emil and Rosie Kazmir Hubenak. Marvin was a longtime resident of Ganado.
Marvin's visitation and services was Wednesday, May 20, from 9 to 10 a.m., with services at 10 a.m. at the Assumption Catholic Church, with Rev. Michael Lyons officiating. Interment will follow in the Assumption Catholic Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Ganado Funeral Home, 361-771-2120.

Johnny Bryant

Johnny A. Bryant, 93, of Edna passed away on Monday, May 18, 2015. Johnny was born in North Zulch to the late William and Lucy Bryant. He married Doris A. Young in Houston, on June 12, 1954. Johnny and Doris were owner/operators of the Western Auto of Edna for 30 plus years. Johnny and Doris were also members of the Baptist Church.
Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris, his daughter Carolyn Bryant, as well as 11 brothers and sisters.
Johnny is survived by his sons: Johnny E. Bryant of Lake Jackson, Dan Bryant of Edna, Keith Bryant of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.., and Scot Bryant of New Braunfels, also seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Friday, May 22 from noon until 2 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. funeral service in the Chapel of Slavik Funeral Home, with Brother Jack Hutson of Vanderbilt Baptist Church officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
