Lillie Mae Pearce

Lillie Mae Green Pearce, of Rockport, formerly of Deutschburg Community, Jackson County, passed away Friday, Feb. 12, 2016. Lillie was born on Jan. 7, 1924 in Edna, to Eugene George Green and Annie Catherine Terry Green. She graduated from La Ward High School then later married her high school sweetheart and forever love, Frank Dorton Pearce, on Oct. 26, 1942. Lillie was a dedicated Army wife who volunteered and worked while her husband served our country. After the service, they moved back to Jackson County, where she was a housewife and an active in the Deutschburg Community Club and Home Demonstration Club. Lillie Mae was a well-respected, generous, and caring woman who was always willing to help others.
For 20 years, Lillie Mae served as an election judge in Deutschburg and Carancahua communities. She enjoyed being a part of the yearly Community Seafood Supper fundraiser, which benefits the March of Dimes. Wonderful memories that many will treasure were enjoying her delicious desserts and home-cooked meals. She was a woman of faith, an active member and mentor of the Point Comfort Church of Christ for many decades. It was a common sight to see Lillie Mae in attendance at her grandkids and great-grandkids school and sporting events; she was a passionate and energetic person.
Lillie Mae was known to the younger generations as Mamau, and they enjoyed seeing and visiting with her at family gatherings and other events. Some of Lillie’s past time hobbies included gardening, playing dominoes, and fishing on her nearby river property.
On her 88th birthday, Lillie Mae moved to Rockport to enjoy and spend time with her family. She continued to be an activemember to the Church of Christ-Rockport, where she participated in a ladies Bible study. She enjoyed spending time with her local friends in Rockport and visiting her long-time friends back home, but above all, she loved to be surrounded by and make memories with her family.
Lillie Mae is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene George Green and Annie Catherine Terry Green; beloved husband, Francis (Frank) Dorton Pearce; sisters, Lucille Lee, Irene Whitworth, Mildred Henderson, and Opal Alford; and brothers, Eugene (Sonny) Green and Billy Green.
She is survived by her son, Larry Ben Pearce and his wife Jean Pearce of Rockport; granddaughter, Erin Pearce Cruzan and husband Kenny of Rockport; grandson, Matthew Ben Pearce and his wife Tiana of Portland; and great-grandchildren, Camryn and Cason Cruzan, and soon-to-arrive, baby Mattilyn Pearce; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 16 from noon to 2 p.m., with the funeral service to begin at 2 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Edna.
