Indians fight hard against Raiders

The Ganado Indians season opener was a 28-19 loss from the Rice Raiders that did not come until the end in Raider territory. The new Athletic director for the Indians, Jim Bird, commented, “We played good, hard, physical football, and we did a good job against a great offensive team. It’s early, and we have a lot of new kids to the varsity level. I can promise you that we will continue to play better every week until district. I am very proud of the kids that played their guts out tonight.”
The first quarter was a tough defensive battle. The Raiders won the toss to receive, but shortly into the game the Indians had taken over on downs. This was later followed by a quick three-and-out that landed the Raiders with the ball. After yet another turnover on downs by the Raiders the Indians decided to make something happen. In the last remaining seconds of the first quarter sophomore Garrett McCann made a 25-yard run ending the quarter with a score of 0-0.
