The Edna Cowboys traveled to Aransas Pass to take on the Panthers and suffered their second loss of the season with a final score of 36-20.
Edna won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. Both the Cowboys and Panthers defense came out strong and locked down each others offense the entire first quarter of the game. At the end of the first the score remained 0-0.
Aransas Pass took complete control of the second quarter. The Panthers ran in for the first score of the game with 8:50 left in the first half. After a good extra point the score was Aransas Pass 7, Edna 0. The Panthers found the endzone once more with 14 seconds left in the half. After a two-point conversion, the halftime score was Aransas Pass 15, Edna 0.
Edna received the second half kickoff and found success on the ground after some halftime adjustments. With 8:30 left in the third, Cowboy running back #7, Marquis Broussard, ran in for a touchdown giving the Cowboys their first points of the game. The extra point try was no good, and the score remained 15-6 in favor of Aransas Pass. The Panthers wasted little time answering back as they ran in a touchdown on their first possession of the third quarter.
Both teams make huge defensive stands and the score at the end of the third remained 23-6, with Aransas Pass on top.
Edna did not go away and kept fighting as their quarterback #18 Landon O'Connor ran in for a touchdown in the fourth quarter with 10:38 left in the game. Cowboy #60 Aaron Padilla tacked on an extra point making the score 23-13 in favor of Aransas Pass.
The Panthers continued the ground assault and scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Broussard found the endzone once more with a good extra point by Padilla, and making the final score 36-20.
When asked how he felt about the Cowboy’s performance, Offensive Line Coach Josh Lovelady said, “If the Edna Cowboys could cut out all the little distractions, we could play with anybody in the state of Texas.” He added that the boys have to play like a team and a family.
Edna has a record of 0-2 in non-district play with hopes of turning the young season around as they host the Van Vleck Leopards for Homecoming, Sept. 12, at Cowboy Memorial Stadium.
