Edna Cowboys fall to Brahmas

The Edna Cowboys fell to the Hallettsville Brahmas with a final score of 36-12 on Sept. 19.
Junior #76 Dylan Kallus said the team with most heart will always win, and the Brahmas were a good team. “We’re going to come out with more heart and intensity next week,” he said.
Hallettsville won the coin toss and deferred to the second half.  Both the Cowboy defense and Brahmas defense came out strong keeping the first quarter of the game scoreless.
The Brahmas put the first points on the scoreboard with a touchdown run. Hallettsville lined up for an extra point try, but faked it and ran the ball in for a two-point conversion making the score 8-0 with 7:42 left in the second quarter.
The Brahmas found the endzone once more with another touchdown run. After a good extra point the score was 15-0 with 1:01 left in the first half. The Cowboys answered back when Edna's running back, #7 Marquis Broussard made a 60-yard run for Edna's first score of the game. After a failed extra point try by the Cowboys, the half time score was Hallettsville 15, Edna 6.
The Brahmas received the second half kick off. Edna's #4, DeOntae Jones had a huge interception, but the Cowboys failed to capitalize on the turnover. After Hallettsville forced a three and out, they scored on a touchdown run.  Extra point was good, making the score 22-6 with 2:44 left in the third quarter.
The Cowboys answered back when Broussard ran in for his second touchdown of the game. After a failed two-point conversion try, the score was Brahmas 22, Cowboys 12.
Hallettsville had a huge fourth quarter as they found the endzone two more times. The final score was Hallettsville Brahmas 36, Edna Cowboys 12.
Senior #22 Billy Ganem said the defense is a brand new one, and is working really hard to work out the kinks. “We have had some adversity this season but nothing we can’t overcome,” he said. “Just as long as the team is willing to work and buy into what Coach is telling us to do to be successful.”
The Edna Cowboys record is now 1-3 in non-district play, and will travel to West Columbia for their last non-district game to take on the Roughnecks next Friday, Sept. 26. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
