Janice Wilson

    Janice C. Wilson, 75, of Edna, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2014, at a Victoria hospital. She was born April 23, 1938 in San Antonio. She worked in the medical field as a dietician.
    She is survived by her daughter, Helen Gonzalez of Edna; three sons, Willie S., Mark A., and Wade L. Haggerton.
    She is preceded in death by her parents.
    Per her request there will be no public service.

Marion Elbert Schoonover

    Marion Elbert Schoonover, of Lolita, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the age of 67.  He was born in El Campo on Sept. 30, 1946, to the late Marion Neil and Faye Deyton Schoonover.
    Elbert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He will be truly missed.
    Elbert is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Kay; daughter, Laura Willoughby and husband Carl of Paris, Ky; son Bert Schoonover and wife Alesia of Lolita; brother, Willard Schoonover of Lolita; grandchildren, Mason, Kelsey, Axel, Karston, Kelson, Kindin, Rosalee, Mazie, Kowen and Ann Marie; and great-grandchildren, Zowie and Briggs.
    He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Susan Schoonover.
    Funeral services were 2 p.m., Saturday, April 19 at the First Baptist Church, Lolita.  Burial followed at Red Bluff Cemetery, in Lolita.

Opal Lillie Marthiljohni Williams

Opal Lillie Marthiljohni Williams died April 9, 2014. She was born April 24, 1920 in Telferner to Nick and Lillie (Branch) Marthiljohni and was the third of 10 children.
    Opal and Woodrow were married on June 8, 1938 in Edna at Opal’s family home and were married over 57 years. They spent most of their married life in McAllen, living at Paradise Park, square dancing and enjoying all the park had to offer. They were members of Calvary Baptist Church for over 40 years.
    Opal was a hair dresser and ended her career working at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. She was also a hospital volunteer for over 20 years before moving to her daughters in Colorado.
    Opal and Woodie were blessed with two adopted children; Glenda (Greg) and Terry. There are four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
    Opal is survived by brother; Wally (Willa Mae) and two sisters; Margie and Trois.

Molly McCormack

Molly Elizabeth McCormack, of Edna, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, at the young age of 21.  She was born on Sept. 9, 1992 in Victoria to William Patrick and Tammy Sowell McCormack.
    Molly was beautiful and saw only the best in everyone and touched the lives of so many. She bravely and courageously fought a 5 ½ year battle with cancer and never gave up her fight to be cured. She was an inspiration and a ray of sunshine to many who were fighting cancer with her at M.D. Anderson in Houston. Molly was proud to be honored at the Jackson County Relay for Life and signing the Pink Fire Truck for cancer survivors. Molly was very thankful to her friends, family and people she never met that prayed for her throughout her illness.

Curtis Nordin

    Curtis D. Nordin, of Edna passed away Sunday, April 14, 2014 in Ganado, at the age of 90. He was born July 15, 1923, in El Campo to the late John E. and Aurora Nordin.
    Curtis was a member of the Civil Conservation Corps, He also worked at Jackson Electric Coop. as a service man for many years.
    He is survived by his wife, Bernice Whitstine Nordin; daughters JoAnn Roberson and husband Gilford of Edna and Karla Alderete and husband Frankie of Crosby; sons, Gary Nordin and wife Alice of Edna and David Nordin of Houston; sister, Mildred Love and husband Albert of San Antonio; brother, Cylde Nordin of Santa Fe; brother-in-law, Warren McCarn and wife Dorothy of Nursery; grandchildren, Rodney Roberson, Shari Belmarez, Jennifer Rocha, Carrie Hall, Derek Ballin and Jeffrey Ballin and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Dallas Idlett Sr.

Dallas LeRoy Idlett, Sr., age 72, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014.
    He was born in Cushing, Okla. on April 17, 1941, served in the United States Navy and worked in construction.
    Survivors are his wife, Betsy Gabbert Idlett of Cuero; daughters, Linda Washington and husband Henry of Caldwell, Barbie Crain and husband Richard of Yoakum and Michelle Thompson of Aurora, Colo; sons, Sam Idlett of Edna and Dallas Idlett, Jr. of Yoakum; 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Mobillia Idlett; granddaughter Taniah Colette Idlett and grandson Colton Crain.
    Visitation was 9 a.m., Monday, April 7 with funeral service at 11 a.m., at New Life Baptist Church, with Rev. Richard Crain officiating. Burial was at Yoakum Restland Cemetery.
    Pallbearers were his children Sam Idlett, Linda Washington, Barbie Crain and Dallas Idlett, Jr., grandsons Robby Whittley and Jaxon Idlett.

Gilbert Martinez

    Gilbert Martinez, Jr., 53, of San Antonio, formerly of Edna passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014. He was born Oct. 20, 1960, in Lubbock to Gilbert Martinez of Lubbock and Maria Garcia Vasquez of Victoria. He retired from Alcoa after 14 years of service.
    He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Ramirez Martinez of San Antonio; daughter, Jaime Ashley Martinez of San Antonio; sons, Gilbert James Martinez and wife Amanda of San Antonio; Jeremy Tirso Martinez of Austin and half-brother, Joe Garcia of Cuero. Gilbert is also survived by sisters, Martha Valle, Lydia Martinez of Victoria and Sandra Gamez of Tomball. Also survived by special nieces and nephews.
    Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by sister, Pricilla Ann Martinez.
    The family was received by friends from 5-7 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. April 7 at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.

Melissa Gabrysch

    Melissa “Missy” Lynn Gabrysch, of Edna, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the young age of 43. She was born June 1, 1970, in Denton to James (Butch) and Pat Norrell.
    Missy was a science teacher for Industrial High School and touched the hearts of many individuals.
    She was a loving wife, daughter, mother, aunt, sister-in-law, niece, cousin and a true friend who will be missed dearly.
    Missy graduated from North Lamar High School in 1988. She attended Parris Junior College and then graduated from Texas A&M in College Station with a degree in biology. She was a true and loyal Aggie and a loyal Cobra supporter.

Carlos Luis Lopez

     Carlos Luis Lopez, age 43 of Austin, Texas, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014. He was born in Ganado, Texas on January 16, 1971, to Freddie O. Lopez and Jane Cruz Lopez.

     Carlos was a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where he received a degree in mathematics. He was employed as a Quality Control Representative for Data Quick. Carlos was also a musician, he played the drums and performed with numerous bands around the Austin area, bands titled Grass, Milhouse and Squint, just to name a few.

He was a friend to everyone who knew him and was an inspiration to many, he will be missed dearly.

William Dunham

William Lynn Dunham, 86, was born Feb. 12, 1928 and passed away March 17.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister and one grandson, Nicholas Dunham.
    He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anna Lois Dunham; daughter, Jan Masters and husband Michael; sons, William Lynn Dunham Jr. and wife Kathy and Steven Leigh Dunham; and three grandsons, Joshua, Zachary and Jason.
    Visitation was Thursday, March 20 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service was Friday, March 21 at 10:15 a.m. followed by interment in the Houston National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
