Billy Ray Dyson

Billy Ray Dyson
    Billy Ray Dyson, 73, of Inez, passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2014. He was born Aug. 17, 1940, in Arp, Ten. to Carl and Minnie Dyson. Bill was an auditor for the State of Texas and maintained that position for 25 years until retiring at age 55.
    He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Minnie, and his brother, Carl T.
    He is survived by his wife, Patsy, his sister, Daisy Dees, his brother, Travis and sons, Craig and Jason , and two grandchildren.
    Visitation was Feb. 10 at the Rosewood Funeral Chapels. A graveside service was Feb. 11 at Red Bluff Cemetery with Rev. Gabriel Bentil officiating.

Darlene Stevens

    Darlene Streetman Stevens, of Victoria passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at the age of 62.  She was born Oct. 2, 1951, in Edna to the late Charles T. Streetman and Ethel Mae Chivers Streetman.
    She was a CNA in the medical field for many years. She was also a loving, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed. 
    Darlene is survived by her daughter, Linda Lawrence and husband, Andy of St. Augustine, Fla.; son, Lance Mascheck and wife Jaclyn of Victoria; sister, Eunice Webel (Fred Brewer) of Yoakum; grandchildren, Sharla Baker, Daniel Kinnmons, James Baker, John  Aldis-Mascheck, Heather Mascheck, Brent Baker, Haley Mascheck, Kaley Mascheck and Jeremy Mascheck; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her special friend, Clarence Grahmann, and her beloved dogs Sassy and Jezzy.

Henry R. Garcia

Henry R. Garcia of Edna passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 at the age of 66.  He was born July 16, 1947, in Inez to the late Eusebio Garcia Sr. and Mercedes Robles Garcia.
    Henry worked as a truck driver in the trucking business for many years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be missed dearly.
    He is survived by his wife Gloria Ann Garcia; daughters, Florinda Ann Garcia, Henrietta Udarbe and Lupita Garcia; sons, Henry Garcia Jr. and Joe Emil Garcia all of California; sisters, Guadelupe Ramos and Loretta Soto; brother, Jimmy Joe Garcia Sr. all of Edna; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
    He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cecelia Molina; brothers, John R. Garcia, Eusebio Garcia Jr. and Emilio Garcia; grandchildren, one.

Virginia Kurner

    Virginia Kurner passed from this life to be with Jesus on Feb. 6, 2014 at 92. John 3:16 “For God, so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
    Virginia “Jinny” was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Raymond Kurner and by her son Roger Kurner who died at age 11.
    She is survived by her son Bryan Kurner, his wife Joy and their children Mark and Grace of San Antonio. Also surviving daughter Pam Kurner and her husband Philip Bertram of Galveston as well as Sister Mabel Evans of Galveston and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clarence Webel

    Clarence Lee (Butch) Webel of Ganado died Feb. 2, 2014. He was born Oct. 9, 1944 in Ganado to the late Fred and Lydia Tegeler Webel. He worked for Latimer Service Station in Edna and then for Alcoa for 35 years. He married Katherine Latimer Webel om March 9, 1965 in Edna.
    He is survived by his wife; daughter Melinda Webel Reeves; son Bobby Webel; sister Louise Weise of Victoria; and brother Don Webel of Victoria. He is also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Ann Luedeke of Ganado and William Webel of Victoria.

Gary Michael Hamilton

Gary Michael Hamilton
    Gary Michael "Baby Roy" Hamilton passed away on February 5, 2014 at the age of 63, in Houston, after a short battle with cancer. He was born on March 7 to Henry J. and Mary Gene Hamilton.
    Mike graduated from Edna High School in 1968. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in Sept. 1968 and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from Texas A&M University. He worked in the oil and gas field for Dow Chemical, Apache Corp., and was currently employed for Corum Production Company. 
    He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Sharon Gloor Hamilton; daughter, Gretchen Pyle and husband John; son, Jason Hamilton, grandson, Judson Pyle; siblings, Katherine Davis and husband Ken, Linda Rehak and Leslie Hamilton. In addition, he is survived by several nieces and nephews and many wonderful and special friends.

Paul Dittrich

    Paul Dittrich, 97, died Feb. 3, 2014. He was born Feb. 18, 1916 to William and Julia (Beran) Dittrich in Lytton Springs in Caldwell County.
    In 1918 the family moved to their farm in the Cordele Community, where he attended school in the two room schoolhouse in Lower Cordele. In 1936 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was stationed in Bastrop and Ten Sleep, Wyo. After serving about one year, he was discharged from the Corps and returned to the family farm in Cordele. In 1940 he joined the U.S. Army Signal Corps at Fort Sam Houston. After serving in several Army posts in the United States, his company was shipped overseas in 1943. His signal company made the amphibious invasion in Sicily, in Salerno, Italy at Anzio, Italy and Southern France. While serving with the Seventh Army in France he received a Battle Field Commission to 2nd Lt. in 1944. After the war ended he returned to the United States in November 1945.

Clara Anderson Hicks

    Clara Anderson Hicks, of Edna, age 100, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014. She was born in El Campo on Oct. 2, 1913, to Andrew John and Alma Samon Anderson.
    She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed. She touched the hearts of everyone that knew her.
    Clara is survived by her daughter, Karen Hicks of Victoria; son, Larry Hicks of Edna; grandchildren, Ray Hicks and Todd Hicks; great-grandchildren, Scarlett Hicks-Muniz and Hunter Hicks; great-great-grandchildren, Bianca Muniz and Myka Muniz.
    She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Weldon Chester Hicks; sisters, Elsie Nelson and Delphia Nelson.
    Visitation was Saturday, Feb. 8, from 9 to 10 a.m, at Oaklawn Funeral Home. Funeral service followed at 10 a.m. at Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery of Edna. Rev. Larry Green officiated.

Larry White

    Larry White, 73, of Yorktown, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2014. He was born Dec. 19, 1940, in LaWard to the late Arthur D. and Ruby Revel White.
    Larry is survived by his wife, Geraldine White; son, David (Wanda) White; daughters, Natalie (Joey) Holt, Wendy (Gene) Davis, and Denise Webb; grandchildren, Kody Davis, Coleton Davis, Tymothy Budd, Courtney Spann, Brittney Spann, Ashley Spann, Haylea Holt, Russell Lynn, Breanna Lynn and Joshua Budd; great­-grandchild, Tessa Belle; sister, Anna (Wayne) Prukop; brother, Donald (Tina) White; numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Lisa Young.
    On Feb. 6, visitation was from 1 to 2 p.m. and the funeral service was at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Interment followed at Westside Cemetery.
