Vera Keith

    Vera Lee Frenzel Keith, 87, passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014. She was born May 23, 1926 in Belton to the late Joseph A. and Bertha Lee Sersey Frenzel.
    Vera was retired from RB’s Department Store and as a receptionist for Dr. Dugger in Edna.
    Survivors include daughters, Linda Heller and husband Richard, and Patsy Storz; son, Bobby Keith; and sisters, Velma Moss, Eraline Dawes and husband Donald, and Jean Powers and husband Carl; brothers, Joe Edward ( wife Jackie) Frenzel and wife Jackie and Jessie Frenzel and wife Jerri; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
    Visitation and services will be Tuesday Feb. 4 from noon until service time at 2 p.m., at the First Methodist Church in Edna, with Rev. Bernard Ritchea officiating. Interment will be in the Memory Gardens in Victoria.

Allie Jane Roberson

    Graveside services for Allie Jane Thedford Roberson, who passed away Jan. 9, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Lolita Cemetery near Frels Landing.
    Services will be conducted by the Rev. Lyman Mereness with Crown Hospice of Victoria.
Born to Roey and Thelma Thedford on Feb. 5, 1940, in Lolita, she was married to the late Roy Harvey Roberson.
    Survivors are her children, Cynthia of Yorktown, Roy of Houston, and Janette Ackley of Montana; brother Donald Thedford of Lolita; sisters Dorothy Thedford of Victoria and Nadine Koch of LaWard; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother Fred Thedford.
    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jackson County Senior Citizens Center or Crown Hospice of Victoria.

Johnnie Hines

    Johnnie Robert Hines, 87, of Edna, passed away January 27, 2014.
    He is preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Hines; mother, Velma Hines; father, Eugene Hines; and brother, Kenneth Hines.
    Johnnie is survived by his daughter, Claudia Lincoln; son, Ray Callis; sister, Altha Robinson; brother, Hugh Hines; and two grandchildren.
    Visitation was be from 9 - 11 a.m. Jan. 31 followed by funeral services at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 31 at Cook-Butler Funeral Home, 316 N. Peabody in Edna.

Laddie Kolacny

    Laddie A. Kolacny, 92, passed away Wed. Jan. 29, 2014. He was born Jan. 24, 1922, in Shiner, to the late Joseph and Rosie Ruzicka Kolacny.
    Laddie was a long time barber in Ganado. He also served our country in the U.S Army, during WWII. He was a self-taught saxophone and accordion player. He played in bands most of his life and most recently was in "The Shiner Hobo Band". Laddie was a member of the Assumption Catholic Catholic Church in Ganado, also the KC's and VFW.
    He is survived by his daughters, Bernice Hillman and husband Paul, Mildred Johnson and husband James; sons, Dennis and Ron Kolacny. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
    Laddie is preceded in death by his, parents; wife Frances; son Robert Kolacny; grandson Jeff Hillman; sisters Lillie and Bessie Grahmann; and brothers Frank and Joe Kolacny.

Florence Kubecka Gary

    Florence Kubecka Gary, 86, of Rancho Bernardo, San Diego, Calif., died Jan. 14, 2014 at Palomar West Hospital in Escondido, Calif. She was born Oct. 10, 1927 in Hallettsville.
    Florence grew up on her parent’s farm in Cordele with her seven siblings. She attended Edna ISD and graduated as valedictorian in 1944. She worked for the military and Texas Compensation Board. She married George Gary in 1948 and Brendon Braden from Australia in 1999. She lived in Rancho Bernardo, San Diego, Calif. until her death. She visited Edna nearly every year for the family reunion and had family around her when she passed.
    She is survived by her husband Brendon Braden; sons, George and Bret; daughter, Sandra; sisters, Dagmar and Erlene; brother, Pete; and grandchildren, Morgan, Tate, and Sienna.
    She was preceded in death by her parents.
    Funeral services were held Jan. 15 at Eternal Hills Funeral Home in Oceanside, Calif.

Michele Pena

    Michele Annette Pena, 52, passed away at home in Richmond, Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014. She was born Sept.14, 1961 in Victoria to Benito and Mary (Gomez) Pena.
    Michele is survived by her parents, sisters, Mary Dolores "Dede" Pena-Koonce and Wendi Pena-Myers; three nephews, fiancée, Ken Dudley; and aunts and uncles John and Olivia Sanchez of Victoria, Richard and Becky Gomez of Rosenberg, Lala Rivera of Houston, Joe and Delia Gomez of Edna, Joe and Elida Benavides of Edna and Felipe and Irene Villela of Edna.
    She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Jesse and Olivia Gomez, her paternal grandparents, Benito and Guadalupe Pena and her godmother, Dee Zedan.
    Funeral services were Jan. 25 at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel at Davis Greenlawn Funeral Home followed by burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Amelia Trevino

    Amelia Treviño, 81, of Bay City passed away Jan. 23, 2014.  She was born Aug. 17, 1932 in Edna to the late Manuel and Victoria Treviño Figueroa. Amelia was a longtime resident of Bay City, and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was best known for her strong work ethic, generous heart, and tireless giving to others while she did without. Amelia was a devoted wife of 60 years to husband Tony Treviño, and also a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
    She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Antonio “Tony” Treviño; two daughters, Rachel Treviño-Garcia and Mary Helen Martinez; a son, Steve Raul Treviño; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
    Amelia was preceded in death by her parents, son, Tony Herrera Treviño; sister, Luisa Alfaro and four brothers, Andrew, Manuel, Pete and Tony Figueroa.

Doris Rodriguez

    Doris "Dolly" Rodriguez, age 65 of Demopolis, Ala., died Jan. 19, 2014 at Baptist Medical Center – Princeton. She was born Sept. 18, 1948 in Edna. She was a certified nurse assistant and a member of Thomaston Church of Christ in Thomaston, Ala. Dolly moved to Alabama in 2005. She felt strongly about animal rights and organ donation.
    She is survived by her daughter, Judy Pritchett of Demopolis, Ala.; daughter, Cinda Ramirez of Milton, Wash.; son, Edward Ramirez of Harker Heights; son, Toby Ramirez of Freeport; daughter, Lisa Ramirez of Monroe, Wash. ; brothers, Joe Rodriguez and wife Tina of Victoria; Emilio Rodriguez and wife Maria of Edna; Johnny Rodriguez of Edna; Jesse Rodriguez, Jr. of Edna; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, Juesus Rodriguez and Anita Riojas Rodriguez; sister, Mary Ellen Garcia,  and niece, Brenda Lea.

Vera Lesak

    Vera Ellen Lesak of Ganado passed away peacefully among family on Jan. 22, 2014. She was born on May 29, 1950 in Yoakum to John (JW) Wesley Powell and Ethel Marion Powell.
    Vera worked at the El Campo Aluminum Plant for 22 years, then retired and became a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, arts, crafts, sewing, and being with family.
    She is survived by her loving husband, Paul Edward Lesak; mother, Ethel Marion Powell; brothers Jimmy (Kathy) Cockroft, Wesley Powell, Tony Powell, Lisa (David) Utley, Clyde (Debbie) Powell, Shirley Powell, and Kenneth Powell. She is also survived by her children, Sherri (Manuel) Carrasco, Henry Ledwig, Marion Christine (Mark) Madden, Hank (Christina) Ledwig), Philip (Heather) Ledwig, Johanna (Jeremy) Hadley, Paula Lesak, and Jonathan (Manda) Lesak, as well as 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Lori Clark

    Lori Diane Clark of La Ward passed away at home on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014.
    She is survived by her husband, Lennie Clark; sons, Christopher and Alan Clark, all of La Ward; granddaughter, Bindi Clark; sister, Vicki Black; and brother, Andy Brienden.
    Lori worked with Jackson County Hospital District Emergency Medical Service and Calhoun County Emergency Medical Service as well as volunteered with Port Alto/Olivia Volunteer Fire Department.
    A memorial service was held for Lori at the First United Methodist Church of Port Lavaca on Jan. 18 at 10 a.m.
    She will be dearly missed by all. May she rest in God's hands.
