Alton Curtis Terrell

    Alton Curtis Terrell, 88, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014 in Edna. He was born on Feb. 7, 1926 in Navidad to the late Ralph and Lottie Mae Whitley Terrell.
    Curtis graduated from Edna High School, He began working part time in the oil industry while attending high school and began a full time career with Allen and Morris after serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Although he loved his work as a driller, he went to work for Union Carbide in 1954. He retired from his position of Emergency Director in 1983. He then focused on his lifelong passion of cattle ranching on his land in Navidad, which has been in his family for generations. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Edna.
    Curtis enjoyed spending time with his family. He inspired his children with his integrity and strong work ethics. His grandchildren fondly remember him as an avid story teller, sharing detailed stories about his life and family.
    Curtis is survived by his children, C. Wayne Terrell of College Station, Timothy G. Terrell of Ivins, Utah, Linda Tipton of Edna, Audrey Whittington of Richmond and their spouses; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Roland “Pete” Terrell, Sue Fairchild, and Pasty Crenshaw.
    He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Corinne Mitchell Terrell, and brother, Bobby Joe Terrell.
    Visitation was Saturday, Sept. 27, from 12-2 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel in Edna. Funeral services followed at 2 p.m. and burial with full military honors immediately afterwards at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Victoria.
    His service was officiated by Rev. Robert Krause of First Baptist Church of Edna. His pallbearers were Adam Tipton, Jeffrey Terrell, Forrest Whittington, Garrett Whittington, Mason Whittington, Clay Whitley, and Jake Whitley.
