William Spacek

William "Bill" Joseph Spacek, Sr. of Ganado returned to the arms of his Creator on Nov. 16, 2015. Born on Aug. 2, 1940, the first born of William Frank and Victoria Eleanora Machicek Spacek, Bill was a loving, kind-hearted son, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He graduated from Ganado High School as valedictorian of his class. He attended Wharton County Junior College where he starred in numerous musicals, as he did at the Sam Houston State University Drama Department.
Bill received two Bachelor of Arts degrees from Sam Houston, his first in Choral Directing, and his second in Industrial Arts.
For 26 years, Bill was a dedicated teacher, beginning his career at Assumption Catholic School in Ganado. He taught school for the Wyndam ISD at the Goree Women's and Ferguson Units in Huntsville before moving his family to Bay City where he taught Industrial Arts at Bay City High School for 19 years.
His greatest joys were spending time with his family, working with wood, and fishing. Time fishing with his family was the best of times, instilling that same love in his children and grandchildren.
Music played an important role in his life, some of his greatest moments were as Choral Director at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City. He will be long remembered for his magnificent bass voice, especially by the Holy Cross Choir and the Assumption Catholic Church Choir in Ganado.
Bill was proud of his service in the U.S. Marine Corps. Reserves, he is a member of the Ganado American Legion Post 346, where he served as bugler for several years.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Mary Frances, his first wife, Ila Sheffield, and his granddaughter, Angel Spacek.
Bill is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary Sturrock Spacek; five children, Victoria Wimberely, Angela Hamilton, Jennifer Anderson, William Spacek, Jr. and James Spacek; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation was Wednesday, Nov. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral mass was Nov. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church with Rev. Jim Harnan officiating. Interment immediately followed at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Ganado.
Services have been entrusted to Russell Todish of Ganado Funeral Home, 361-771-2120.
