Catherine Maxwell Crain

    Catherine Lee Maxwell Crain went to be with our Lord and her loved ones on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 in Houston, Texas. She was born Sept. 16, 1941 in Longview, Gregg County, Texas to the late Harry Sanders Maxwell Sr. and Laura Lee Lester Maxwell.     After her graduation from Edna High School and Sam Houston State College, Cathy’s teaching career as a music/choir director and librarian spanned 40-plus years in school districts in Victoria, Houston (Spring Branch) and Pasadena. After her retirement from the education system, Cathy enjoyed photography as well as designing, making and selling her unique handcrafted jewelry.     She was married on Nov. 20, 1976 to John Medley Crain in Houston. They enjoyed 38 wonderful years together before his death on May 15, 2015.     Cathy was also preceded in death by her brother H.S. “Sandy” Maxwell Jr.     She is survived by her nephews Scott Maxwell of Prosper, and Aaron Maxwell of Edna; stepdaughters Jennifer Russell, Karen Dziedzic, Debbie Purdy, Susan Spence and Cyndi Beissner of Houston; sister-in-laws Gloria Putnam Maxwell of Edna and Betty Crain Phelps Owens of Houston.     Catherine, as she was known by her Houston friends, will truly be missed by her furry family members, her two dogs Harry and Gracie and her cats Zack, Sadie and Lizzie.     Cathy’s family would like to thank her special friends Barry Browning, Deana Martin, Deborah Hirsch, and Melanie Markley for the care and help that they so lovingly gave to her.     A memorial service for Catherine Lee Maxwell Crain will be held Saturday, July 9 at 11 a.m. at Bering Memorial United Methodist Church, 1440 Harold St., Houston.
