Prenatal Services coming to clinic

Pregnant women in and around Jackson County will now have local prenatal care available to them, thanks to a collaboration between DeTar Health System and Jackson County Hospital.
Jace Jones, program administrator of Community Mother and Child Health Center, said Judy Gilley, a family nurse practitioner with more than 10 years experience, will see prenatal patients at the Jackson County Medical Clinic one-half day each week. While Gilley will make prenatal care more accessible to Medicaid and uninsured patients, Jones said she will also see patients who have insurance.

Church welcomes new pastor

Lakeway Fellowship at 614 W. Main St. has a new pastor, Jeff Jud. Jeff, his wife Laura, and their two sons, Kris and Jourdon, have recently moved to Edna and are looking forward to serving in the local community.
One of Jeff's life verses, John 14:6, "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'", keeps him focused on God's purpose for us individually and for himself as pastor.  It is only in knowing Jesus that we can recover from life's hurts, habits and hang-ups – which is what happens on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m., during Celebrate Recovery.

Local farmers choose the organic way

Why is organic better? If you choose an organic fruit, why are there different labels? Why should you care? It’s more expensive, so what makes it worth it?
At Knopp Branch Farm in Edna, organic ultimately means taste and flavor. Buy a piece of organic fruit. Rinse it off and bite into it. Taste it. The sweet difference is there in the juices and nutrients, it’s on your tastebuds.
Intentionally meant as a small garden with access to water, Donna and Ernest Roth turned out to have much more than they expected – a life of passion that should have started sooner.

New Edna officer is home grown

There is a new face on the Edna Police department and it is a familiar face to many who live in the City of Edna.
Brandon Callis was sworn into the EPD at the July 18 city council meeting.
Callis is a 2011 graduate of Edna High School. He was a running back on the Edna Cowboy football team. He said he has always known the path his career would take – either a professional football player or police officer. After suffering numerous injuries on the football field, he chose a career in law enforcement, which could be just as dangerous.
"I took a lot of hits as a running back and got a lot of injuries," he said. He still feels the effects of the tackles he received on the football field.
Callis, 21, is married and he and his wife, Creina, have two boys ages 6 and 3.

Thieves break in to county services building

A break-in occurred at the Jackson County Services Building Sunday night or Monday morning, according to Edna Police Officer Michael Yaws. At least one person breached more than one office in the building, rifled through and stole many items, including a small refrigerator, digital camera, laptop computers, a green vacuum,  home equipment and sentimental Eeyore stuffed animals.  Juvenile Probation Officer Willie Caesar and Police Investigator Mike Yaws inspect a desk top for a shoe print left behind in the juvenile probation office.
