The commissioners’ courtroom was unusually filled up on Feb. 11 for the Emergency Services District No. 3 public hearing during Jackson County Commissioners’ Court. A number of concerned citizens, including volunteer
firefighters, hospital district members and county officials were on hand to make comments and ask questions regarding the creation of another Emergency Services District in the county. Attorney Howard Katz was present to provide commissioners and the public with additional information on ESDs and to answer any questions. Even if the measure passes on the ballot which includes voters in Edna ISD and the City of Edna, he explained the ESD would not pass if the majority of the voters in the City of Edna did not approve it.
