Donald Egg hired as Edna interim superintendent

Edna Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Donald Egg during a special meeting at Edna Junior High School on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The board voted to hire him unanimously after an hour and 20 minute executive session. He will start Wednesday, Oct. 2 and will be interim superintendent until a new superintendent is hired, which is expected to occur in December.

Egg said he retired from Ganado ISD in 2003 and was superintendent there for eight years. He also worked for Industrial ISD for 15 years. Egg was principal for Industrial Junior High School from 1986 to 1990. After his retirement, he has been interim superintendent for other schools.

Tractor-trailer crashes into vehicle being towed

Samuel Cardenas of Edna was driving a 2013 International tractor-trailer that was pulling a tank trailer southbound on U.S. Highway 59 at Farm-to-Market 522 when he struck a vehicle being towed by a 2002 Ford pick-up truck driven by Daniel Rodriguez of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico at 4:53 a.m. on Sept. 25.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Gerald Bryant said Rodriguez was towing two vehicles when the accident occurred. He said Cardenas was issued a citation for failure to control speed. Cardenas was driving a tractor-trailer for Enterprise Transportation Trucking Company.

City of Ganado efforts pay off

 

The City of Ganado has much to look forward to especially now that its up for a Best Public Improvement award for revitalizing its downtown. 
On Sept. 16 the Texas Downtown Association announced the Downtown Ganado project has been named a finalist in the Best Public Improvement category of the 2013 Texas Downtown Association Presidents Awards Program. 
City of Ganado Mayor Clinton Tegeler said it is an honor to be nominated for the award. 
“This is validation for our efforts,” Tegeler said. “It feels good that something that we had to go after for, for so long we are seeing results and it is being noticed.”

ESD contract a done deal

 

Edna City Council unanimously approved the contract to provide fire and EMS services for Emergency Services District 3 at the Sept. 19 meeting.
The signed contract is the culmination of nearly a year of effort by the city to find a solution to the ever-increasing cost of providing fire and EMS services for the city.
The ESD is levying a 10 cent per hundred valuation for residents in the Edna Independent School District. They will pay the City of Edna $450,000 for fire/EMS service the first year of the contract, with a 2.5 percent increase the following year. As per the agreement, the City of Edna will contribute the funds necessary to balance the proposed budget.

Going the distance
