Jackson County first responders are doing what it takes to get prepared for a local emergency by being apart of an emergency drill exercise DCP Midstream conducted as part of its community outreach program.

The City of Edna donates $15,000 to the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce every year to support the organization. From left are Charlotte Curlee, Chamber secretary, Edna Mayor Joe Hermes, and Donna Coleman, Chamber president. 

There was lots of jumping going on at First Pentecostal Church of Edna’s 19th Annual Fun Day on Oct. 19. In addition to inflatables for the kids to jump in, there was a petting zoo, horse rides, carnival games and more. From left are Brody New, ? and Erik Clark of Edna.

Ganado's Hannah Janssen and her turkey, Mr. Evil, named after the menace in the Austin Powers movies, was awarded Grand Champion in this year's Jackson COunty Youth Fair, and she sold Mr. Evil for $4,600 at the auction later that week. She also served as an ambassador for the youth fair.

Pets Overboard wooed Jackson County kindergartners on Kindergarten Day at the Brackenridge Main Event Center.

The Jackson, Miss. Police Department  has a suspect in custody for the murder of James Johnson, 56, of Ganado. 

Shun Brown, 17, has confessed to being responsible for the death of Johnson, according to a news release sent out by the Jackson Police Department.

The suspect allegedly shot and killed Johnson on Oct.  13 while trying to rob him in a Motel 6 parking lot.

Brown is charged with capital murder.

Johnson was in Jackson to compete this week in the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Central Open Tournament on the Ross Barnett Reservoir. Tournament organizers plan to honor him and his family during the event, which begins Thursday, Oct. 17.
