Daphne Jean Sablatura

Daphne "Jean" Prove Sablatura of Ganado, passed away on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017 at the age of 74. Jean was born on July 8, 1942 to Waldo Prove and Edith Hagens Prove Hayden. Jean had started her career in 1972 in Ganado as a nursing home administrator and retired in 2010. Throughout the many years she provided loving care to the elderly, their families and to her staff at Care Inn of Ganado, Care Inn of Edna, Twin Pines in Victoria, and Ganado Nursing and Rehab in Ganado.
She is survived by her son Joey Sablatura of Ganado, son Mike Sablatura (Destini) of Ganado, her daughter Gina Miller (Jason) of Shiner, and her son John Sablatura of Ganado; her 11 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph Marvin Sablatura, and her sister Geraldine Prove.

Kenneth Ray Nonenmacher

Kenneth Ray Nonenmacher, of Edna, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016 at the age of 64. He was born on Sept. 22, 1952, in Houston, to Roselie Cmajdalka Nonenmacher and the late Milton Nonenmacher.
Kenneth was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be missed dearly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Charlotte Sue Custer Nonenmacher; mother, Roselie Cmajdalka; daughters, Angela DelosSantos and her husband Joseph, and Amanda Nonenmacher; son, Brandon Nonenmacher and his wife Jennifer; brothers, Donald Nonenmacher and Bruce Nonenmacher; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, Kenneth is preceded in death by his brother, Scott Nonenmacher.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m. in the Faith Family Church of Victoria.

E. Wayne Myers

E. Wayne Myers, of Edna, went to be with the Lord with his loving family by his side on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017. He was born on Oct. 27, 1925 in Wellington, Texas to the late Earnest Benett Myers and Dorothy Monroe Myers.
Wayne was raised in Vinson, Okla. Wayne enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942 and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1950. He and his wife, Martha Gene, moved to Edna in 1950 where they became active members of the community. He was Jackson County Clerk from 1952-1969, worked with Steck-Warlick Co. from 1969-1973 and the owner of Wayne Myers Co. from 1973 to present.

Audrey Marie White

Audrey “Tiny” Marie White, of La Ward, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016 at the age of 71. She was born in Palacios on Oct. 10, 1945, to the late James Highberg and Christine Cross Highberg.     She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed dearly.     Audrey is survived by her sons, Donnie White, Jr. and his wife Erin, Bruce White and his wife Devon; sisters, Rita Polensky and her husband Ray, Linda Hamilton; brothers, Jimmie Highberg and his wife Diane and James Highberg; grandchildren, Blake White, Chance White, Hannah White, and Evan White; ex husband, Donnie White, Sr., and numerous nieces and nephews.     In addition to her parents, Audrey is preceded in death by her sisters, Patsy Porter and Nora Jean Cady; brother, Charles F. Highberg.       Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at 10:00 a.m.

Jo Ann Scott

    Jo Ann Scott, age 77, of Edna, passed away on Dec. 24, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Jo Ann was born on April 18, 1939 in Greenville, Mich., the daughter of Earl and Betty Belyou.       She grew up on a farm in Fenwick, Mich., and graduated as valedictorian of Sheridan High School in 1957. She graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in home economics in 1960 and later returned to Michigan State to earn a master’s degree in child development in 1973. In 1960, she married her high school sweetheart, Gordon J. Scott, whom she had known since fourth grade.They were looking forward to celebrating their 56th anniversary on Dec. 27.       She was a lifelong learner and had many diverse interests. She loved keeping up with technology and staying connected with friends and family through Facebook, Twitter, and texting. She was an avid walker at the Edna High School track and used her Fitbit to log 10,000 steps before lunchtime as recently as July.

Msgr. Eustace A. Hermes

    Monsignor Eustace A. Hermes, age 99, passed away Dec. 23, 2016. The fourth of nine children of Steve and Mary Huehlefeld Hermes, he was born Jan. 21, 1917, in Koerth, Texas. He entered St. John’s Seminary, San Antonio, in September 1930 and was ordained a priest June 12, 1941, at San Fernando Cathedral, San Antonio.     Parishes he served include St. Rose of Lima, Schulenburg; Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Ganado; and St. Mary’s, Our Lady of Lourdes, and Our Lady of Victory, all in Victoria.     After medical retirement from full-time parish service, he remained involved in non-parish priestly ministry for many years. He was especially active in the Knights of Columbus, the Serra Club of Victoria (religious vocations), the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, and the Victoria Catholic Cemeteries, of which he was a long-time director. He was name a Prelate of Honor (Monsignor) by Pope John Paul II on May 16, 2001.

Ida Josephine Janecka

Ida Josephine Janecka, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2016.     She was born April 2, 1927 in Hope to Edward Harmon and Ida Lee Parr Hamman.     She was a homemaker, farmer and rancher. She was involved with the Home Economics Administration in Jackson County for many years and women's softball league in Edna. She enjoyed cooking and sewing as a leisure past time. Sewing many clothes and items to raise "egg money" or for any and all churchs that she was involved with during her life for their fund raising needs.         She was a loving and caring mother for any and all that she could see that needed a little extra help.     She is survived by a son, Bruce Janecka; grandchildren, Tanya Johnson (Rick) and Heath Janecka (Lou); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Diane Willey

    Diane L. (Otto) Willey, 66, of Bedford, Pa. went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 22, 2016 at her home.     She was born on July 8, 1950 in New Paris, Pa. to the late Byron John and Mary Alice (Rouzer) Otto. In 1997 in Austin  she was united in marriage to James S. Willey. He preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 2015.     She is survived by a son Richard “Ricky” Wayne Wayde, Jr., of Bedford, Pa.; grandchildren Cody Nicholas Harry Wayde, Sunbury, Pa. and Brianna Paige Wayde, Bedford, Pa; one great-granddaughter Arabella Wayde; sister Ruth A. married to Stephen McCreary, New Paris, Pa; brother-in-law Clarence Grahmann, Edna, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.     She was preceded in death by Harry Otto, Jeane Hann, Russell Otto, Evelyn Grahmann and infant sister Mary Otto.     Diane attended Chestnut Ridge Independent Fellowship Church, Fishertown, Pa. She attended Chestnut Ridge High School.

Vernon Williams

    Vernon “Squita” Jerrard Williams died Dec. 15, 2016 in Edna. He was born in Houston, Texas on November 24, 1974 to Felton Hopes, Sr. and the late Blenda Williams. He graduated from Edna High School in 1993 and proceeded to attend Blinn Junior College on a basketball scholarship. Vernon enlisted in the United States Army in 1994 where he served his county and received numerous honors. He was honorably discharged in 2002.       Vernon leaves to mourn his passing, his son, Jayceon Williams; girlfriend, Dartameisha Dilworth; father, Felton Hopes, Sr.; step-father, J.B. Butler; grandfather, Willie George Tones, Jr.; brothers, Felton Hopes, Jr., and Morris Hopes; sisters, Brittany Butler and La’Trisha Ann Turner; numerous step-sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.     He is preceded in death by his mother, Lillian, and grandparents, Hillary and Alma Edwards.     Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 22, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Tracy Anderson

    Tracy Lynn Anderson, 48, of Edna, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016. She was born on Sept. 24, 1968 in Groesbeck, Texas to Darrell Faglie Sr. and Barbara Hopf.     Tracy is survived by her parents, Darrell Faglie Sr. of Mathis and Barbara Hopf of Pipe Creek, Texas; sons, Cody Anderson of Cuero and David Poulsen of Madisonville, Tenn.; daughters, Kayla Anderson of Victoria and Melissa Stetler of San Antonio; sisters, Barbara Elledge of Edna, Jeanie Heidelberg of Pipe Creek; brother, Darrell Faglie Jr. of Cuero; one grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and cousins.     A memorial service was held on Dec. 17 at Morales Baptist Church in Morales followed by a gathering at Baptist Temple Church in Edna with Morris D. Hopes of Cuero officiating.
