Emma Slavik

Emma Florence Lichnovsky Slavik, 96, formerly of Edna, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. She was born on March 6, 1921 in Weimar, Texas to William and Antonia Kofron Lichnovsky. Emma attended St. Michael Catholic School in Weimar and graduated from Weimar High School. She received her RN Diploma from St. Joseph Hospital in Houston.
On Monday, April 6, 1942 she married Charles Slavik, they were blessed with three sons and one daughter. Emma and Charles were members of St. Michael Catholic Church in Weimar until they moved to Edna where they joined St. Agnes Catholic Church, where she became a member of the Catholic Daughters and taught third grade Sunday School.

Angel Delgado

Angel Delgado, age 92 of Edna, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017. He was born July 25, 1924 in Mexico.
He worked as a ranch hand for most of his life. Then he worked for the Industrial Independent School District for over 20 years where he later retired from.
He is survived by his son, Gilbert Delgado of Inez; one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Maria Guzman Delgado.
Visitation was March 14 followed by a service at Artero Memorial Chapels in Port Lavaca. Burial followed at Port Lavaca Cemetery.
Pallbearers were great-grandson, Logan Delgado, nephew, Porfirio Ybarra, nephew, Jose Guzman, Jr., nephew, Augustine Guzman, Jr., co-worker, Lupe Lopez, and Gilbert's best friend, Albert Sifuentes.
Arrangements under the direction of Artero Memorial Chapels, Port Lavaca, 361-552-2300.

Leslie LC Smith

Leslie Carroll “LC” Smith, of Edna, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 6, 2017 following a lengthy illness. LC was born on Feb. 15, 1939 in Lavaca County to the late Delbert Smith and Nona Fitch Smith.
LC graduated from Edna High School in 1957 and proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1958-1962 aboard the USS Hollister. He retired from Alcoa after 32 years of service. LC loved spending time with his loving family. Hunting, fishing, gardening, tractor driving, cattle and bustin brush were just some of their cherished memories. He was always their biggest fan at their sporting events and rodeos. LC was a very loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and true friend who will be dearly missed.

Francis Callis

Francis Callis, of Ganado passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the age of 53. She was born in El Campo on Jan. 4, 1964, to the late Genaro Carrasco and Catarina Becerra Carrasco.
Francis was employed at Ganado Independent School District for 17 years. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend who will be missed dearly.
Francis is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Howard Callis, Jr.; daughter, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Callis; sons, Andrew Callis and Craig Callis; sisters, Victoria Rosalez and her husband Ruben Rosalez, Consuelo Carrasco, Juanita Colmenero and her husband Jamie Colmenero, Maria Guimaraes and her husband Charles Guimaraes, Patricia Carrasco, Felipa Carrasco and Tomasa Allen; brothers, Apolinar Carrasco and his wife Guadalupe Carrasco, Selso Carrasco, Jose Carrasco, Manuel Carrasco and his wife Sherri Carrasco; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Natalie Crawford

Natalie Koop Crawford, 87, formerly of Edna, went to be with her Lord and her family, on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017. She was born on Friday, July 19, 1929 in Edna to George Koop and Caroline Cline Koop, she was one of 11 children, six girls and five boys blessed to this family. Natalie married the love of her life, James 'Dale' Crawford on Friday, Oct. 1, 1948 in Edna and they were blessed with four children, two boys and two girls. Natalie had always wanted to be a nurse, so when they were transferred to Lake Charles, La. in 1966, she had her opportunity to go to nursing school, and she became a LPN. In 1969 they were again transferred to Gonzales, La. where she nursed at the Federal Leprosarium Hospital in Carville, La.

Benito DeLeon

Benito P. DeLeon, of Tahoka, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at the age of 82. He was born April 3, 1934, in Jackson County, to the late Ysabel and Maria Partida DeLeon.
Benito worked as a farmer for most of his life and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening his flowers. He also loved watching wrestling, telling stories, and spending time with his family and friends. Benito was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, uncle and friend who will be missed dearly.

Joe Ramirez

Joe H. Ramirez, of Edna, TX, passed away at the age of 45 surrounded by his loving family in Lytle, TX. He was born in Castroville, TX and worked as a Sr. Lead Extruder Technician in the TCL Department of IBS Inteplast Group for the past 17 years.
Joe courageously fought a rare and aggressive form of cancer called mucosal melanoma. He is preceded in death by his father, Humberto Ramirez and grandparents, Francisca and Joe Ramirez, and Ernesto G. Lopez.
He is survived by his parents, Cris and Norman Glaze; grandmother Maria Lopez; sister Jessica Ramirez; children Britny, Excilla, Anthony, Joseph, and Joshua Ramirez; and Kasey Waters (Paul); grandchildren Brayden Eli, Payton, Sawyer, and Meredith.
A memorial service will be held at the Vanderbilt Baptist Church in Vanderbilt, TX at 10:30 am Saturday morning.

Joseph Marvin Chytka

Joseph Marvin Chytka, 86, of Hernando, Florida, passed away on Feb. 23, 2017 in Hernando, Florida. He was born on Dec. 23, 1930 in Ganado to the late Joe and Alice Havran Chytka.
Joseph was a 22 year U.S. Marines Corps veteran serving during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars where he worked as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. He moved to Hernando, Florida from Jacksonville, NC in 1986. Following his retirement from the Marine Corps he built boats for Chris Craft Corp. and worked in the diesel mechanic maintenance industry. Mr. Chytka was a member of St. Scholastica Catholic Church, Lecanto, Florida, VFW Post 4252, Hernando, Florida and the Marine Corps Engineer Association, Jacksonville, Florida. He enjoyed boating and saltwater fishing.
Mr. Chytka was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerome Chytka.

Patricia Ann Hyden

Patricia 'Patty' Ann Hyden passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017 at home with her family in Edna, at the age of 82. She was born in Longview on Sunday, Jan. 20, 1935 to Beverly Louise and Kenneth Bowman 'KB' Snider.
She graduated from Longview High School in 1953, her dad was transferred to Premont, Texas and she attended Texas A&I in Kingsville, where she met her future husband. She married Bailey Bryan Hyden in Premont on Nov. 12, 1955, they shared 61 years together.
They moved to Edna in May 1961, where they became Edna Cowboy fans in the mid 60s and supported them for 30 years.

Mary Louise Hasdorff

Mary Louise Hasdorff, of Edna, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the age of 85. She was born in Edna, on Oct. 6, 1931, to Alfred Gabrysch and Lena Barbara DeVille Gabrysch.
Mary was a lifelong member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church and a faithful member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend who will be missed dearly.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Mary “Beth” Elizabeth Smiley and her husband Jeff; sons, Frederick “Rick” Leon Hasdorff and his wife Peggy, Charles “Chuck” Michael Hasdorff and his wife Brenda; sisters, Geraldine Etlinger, Judy Babbitt, and Patsy Juroska; and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Leon Hasdorff; and sister, Rose Fondon.
