Peadoso Alameda

    Peadoso Alameda passed away on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016 at the age of 67. He was born on Jan. 17, 1949 to the late Jose and Maria Ortiz Alameda in Edinburg, Texas. Peadoso served his country proudly when he enlisted into the U.S. Army.     He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sylvia Alameda; his children Peadoso Peter Alameda, Jr., Jeremy Alameda, and Mandy Ann Alameda; his siblings Raul Gomez of Wharton,  Eva Tijerina of Wharton,  Manuel Alameda of Drisco,  Roberto Alameda of Wisconsin, Yolanda Alameda of Donna, Texas, Daniel Alameda of Wisconsin, and Anna Maria Chica of Houston;  his grandchildren Ariana Nickole Alameda, Casey Aaron Alameda, Peadoso Peter Alameda III, Alexis Greewald, Nevaeh Starr Longoria, Jeremy Alameda Jr., Ray Anthony Alameda, Andrew James Alameda, Sierra Lauren Alameda, Sophia Contreras, Samantha Robles, Guadalupe Rivera, Joseph Rivera, Justin Rivera, Wydell Robinson, Cedric Lee Martinez, Jr., and Drake Rivera; and three great-grandchildren.

Marshall Day

Marshall Day, age 67, of Gatesville, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, in Gatesville. Marshall was born on Aug. 12, 1949, in Spur, Texas, to the late Gordon and Dora Thomas Day.     He grew up in Spur and graduated from Andrews High School in 1967. At the age of 19, he started his career in the newspaper business in Hereford. Since then, his career has taken him to Seguin, Seminole and Edna. Lastly, Marshall came to Gatesville in 1995 as the publisher and general manager of The Gatesville Messenger. He served as president of the Texas Press Association in 2006-07. He was also a member of four of the state's five regional press associations, serving as president of the West Texas Press Association and North and East Texas Press Association. He married Debbie Harvey in 1991 in Corpus Christi. He enjoyed golfing, traveling and reading. He especially loved being a grandfather and attending his grandchildren's various activities.

Gerald Clark

    Gerald McLendon Clark of Edna passed away at the age of 81 on Oct. 27, 2016.  He was born on Jan. 7, 1935 in Bay City to Silburn Jefferson Clark, Sr. and Gussie Lee Mclendon Clark.     Gerald committed himself to public service early on in his life, attending Texas Christian University and the University of Texas before eventually earning his degree in Behavioral Sciences at the University of Houston in Victoria. He also served in the U.S. Army as a counter-intelligence special agent in Italy before returning home to the business of farming and ranching.       As a farmer, he served his community in many capacities, including being a president of the Jackson County Farm Bureau and serving on the State Committee of the Farm Service Agency of the United States Department of Agriculture, where he helped shape national agriculture policy. He has been an active member of the Edna Rotary since around 1965, he has served as president, vice president, treasurer and secretary.

Tonya Trotman-Gregory

    Tonya Trotman-Gregory passed away on Oct. 13, 2016 at the age of 47. She was born on Oct. 25, 1968 in Victoria, to the late Charles Gregory and Grace Lauger.     She is survived by her mother Grace Lauger; son, Tyler Trotman; daughter, Kaitlyn Trotman; sister, Alicia Gregory, and companion Jeff Trotman. Also a nephew, Shelby Tsujimoto and niece Kaci Zimmerman.     She is preceded in death by her father Charles Gregory; brother, Brian Gregory; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Lauger II, and Mr. & Mrs. Ollie Gregory.     A memorial visitation was held on Oct. 22, at Grace Memorial Chapel, Victoria, from 3 to 5 p.m.     A memorial fund has been set up at Prosperity Bank for funeral expenses.     To leave a comforting message, or to share a fond memory, please visit www.gracefuneralhome.net.

Mark Powers

Early Wednesday morning, Oct. 19, 2016, Mark William Powers passed away at the age of 65 in his hometown of Edna, Texas. He was born in Ganado on Sept. 17, 1951 to William Roger Powers and Leona Minnie Mascheck Powers.       Mark spent most of his life using his gifted skill doing painting and detailing work for Edna Body Shop and Tones Body Shop. In his free time he liked to visit with friends and attend family gatherings. He would spend hours watching TV and did not want you  to interrupt his shows, especially his soap operas. His favorite movies were John Wayne and Elvis Presley, he was also a big fan of the Houston Astros.     One of the best memories of Mark is when he would cruise through town to take his best friend and faithful companion "Sissy" for a car ride. You could tell it was them, because you could see the happy Yellow Lab sticking her head out of the car window enjoying the wind.

David T. Edwards

    David T. Edwards, 76 of Edna, passed away Friday, Oct. 21, 2016. He was born April 18, 1940 in Ebensburg, Pa. to Mel and Stella Longoria Edwards.     David was a civil engineer.     He is survived by his wife, Virginia; children, Jimmy Edwards, Crystal Edwards, Jo Jernigan, Brenda Hartin, Melba Hartin, Brian Hartin, Dena Hartin, and all of his loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his faithful dogs.         He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Mel Edwards.     He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was the best friend anyone could ever have and he was loved by all.     A memorial services will be held at a later date.     Services have been entrusted to Russell Todish of Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2152.

Woodrow Stewart

    Woodrow Stewart, of Edna, passed away on Friday, Oct. 21, 2016, at the age of 81. He was born in Natchez, Miss. on Feb. 7, 1935, to the late Charlie and Mamie Phips Stewart.     He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be truly missed.     Woodrow is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Dorothy Stewart; sons, Lee W. Stewart and Charles T. Stewart; sister, Carrie Lee McClearly; grandchildren, Timothy Stewart, Morgan Stewart, and Brandi Stewart; several nieces and nephews.     Woodrow is preceded in death by his parents.     A private family service will be held at a later date.     Arrangements are under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home in Edna. 361-782-2221.

Elizabeth Rivera

Elizabeth Sanchez Rivera, of Edna, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016 at the age of 82. She was born on Nov. 5, 1933, in Edna, to the late Roland and Guadalupe Sanchez.     Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Susan A. Salazar (Michael), of Houston, Lisa Rivera, of Houston, and Brenda Dominguez (Raymond), of Port Lavaca and daughter in law, Nelda Sertuche of Yorktown; sons,  Ernest Rivera (April) of Deer Park, Larry Rivera (Grace) of Houston, Pete Rivera (Patricia) of Missouri City, and George Rivera of Houston; sisters, Janie Figueroa, Nova DeLeon, Caroline Martinez, and Rosie Chanek; brothers, Ruben Sanchez, Gilbert Sanchez, and Sammy Sanchez. She is also survived by 31 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.     She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Erasmo E. Rivera; daughter, Rosemary Rivera; son, Ernest Sertuche; two brothers and one sister.     Visitation was Oct. 21, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel.

Edna Randall

    Edna Lea Randall, 88, was born June 20, 1928 in Blair, Okla., to the late Beverly Tucker Lacy and Velma Ovella Curry Lacy. She went to be with the Lord after a courageous fight with lung cancer on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016.     She is survived by her husband, Albert Charles Randall; four children, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.     Visitation was Oct. 22, from 10 to 11 a.m., with a funeral service at 11 a.m. in the Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Edna.     In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.     Arrangements under the direction of Oaklawn Funeral Home, Edna, 361-782-2221.

Helen Bragg Long

    Helen Rebecca Bragg Long, 77, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016. Helen was born on Sept. 1, 1939 in Santa Rita, New Mexico to Samuel and Evelyn Bragg.     She was united in Holy Matrimony to Donald Long on July 2, 1960. They were blessed with four children, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.     Helen was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother.  She put God and family first in her life. She was an active member of the Robinson Street Church of Christ, The Eleanor Brackenridge Literary Club, and many other clubs and organizations. As a result of her generosity, she was loved by many, and will be missed by all.     Helen was preceded in death by her mother and father and one daughter, Sandra Smith.     Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her husband: Donald Mac, Sr., her children: Denise Kubala and husband Tommy, Donnette Ellington and husband Charles, Donald Mac, Jr. and wife D'Anna.
